Beef chimichanga with queso (lunch special)
    Josh W.

My father works near this place in Troup, so we came here for lunch while I was visiting from San Francisco recently. There was a time when I'd have been a bit tougher on this place, but ever since I moved to San Francisco I've come to appreciate how special generic tex-mex places like this really are. When you live in a place where they think queso is a bowl of shredded cheese, and salsa is pico de gallo, being able to get a tasty chimichanga with queso and some decent refried beans can be a pretty great experience. Of course this is far from the best tex-mex in the area, hell it isn't even that great, but what it is is your consistent generic tex-mex joint that every little town in Texas has. The chimichanga was nice and crispy, the refried beans flavorful, the salsa decent, and the service was great. Lunch for three ended up being a paltry $21. In a town with as few lunch options as Troup, I'm sure La Hacienda is a welcome addition.

Beef & Cheese enchilada with spinach and verde sauces, with rice and beans.

So I walked into the restaurant at around 3 pm today. The place was empty of patrons but happy young hostess jumped up to greet me immediately and sit me at a table of my choosing. We had a funny exchange as I mindlessly ordered the daily special and found out that the "BHS and CHS meal" was in fact a beef & cheese enchilada plate. She ensured I was happy with my choice of sauces and sides before relaying my order to my server. My chips and drink arrived promptly, and I decided their salsa was alright after trying both their mild and spicy varieties. It wasn't long until my meal arrived. I just had an enchilada, rice, and beans plate, but I was hungry and the food was excellent. I've ordered more complicated meals there, but today I was by myself, reading a book, and in the mood for something quick and cheap. Overall the meal was fantastic for the price (a little over $8 before tip), the service was attentive, I liked the soft rock they were playing, and am very happy to eat there. I've been there several times in the last year and have had a good experience regardless of when I've been by myself or with the kids, and when they were busy or empty.

I agree. Fairly generic Tex-Mex, but the place is clean and friendly and priced right. Food is fast and tasty.

There's plenty of nice local establishments, but some can be pricey and some are just more casual than you want. Scott Williams has perfected the restaurants of Tyler that are balanced between affordable and still quite nice. He got his toes in the water with FDs, before expanding into Javi's, Twelve, and now the fanciest of them all in III Palms. I thought of all those options, Twelve would be the most unique and tasty for my girlfriend and I. We went in an hour before they closed on a Sunday and were seated immediately. We weren't too hungry so we didn't expect to be there past their closing time, and we were ready to go. Our waiter was quick and attentive, bringing us water and helping us decide on drinks from the bar and our order. He also showed us their insane over-the-top whiskey menu. If you like whiskey, give Twelve a shot I guess. To order, I just got their 'Osaka Style' Pressed Roll while my girlfriend got a Sushi Bowl Salad. We got Sweet Potato Fries to share. As for drinks, I started with their Monkey See, Monkey Do, an impressive and firm beverage, while my girlfriend ordered their Destin Dream, a fun Pina Colada-like drink. It wasn't long before our food came out. The sushi was beautifully plated with some wasabi and pickled ginger on the side. I destroyed all the rolls. They were all very fresh and very high quality, which was remarkable for their $13.50 price tag. My girlfriend's sushi bowl looked insane. She ate most of it, but I filled the gaps and devoured the rest of it. The sweet potato fries were crispy and heavenly like all sweet potato fries usually are. I felt adventurous and I got a second drink of their Rose Garden, which was simple but flavorful. Compared to FDs, the menu might be a little more sea-inspired and more adventurous, but I think it leads to better, more unique food, especially with offerings like Oyster Rockefeller and a sushi bar. I also know Twelve does a great brunch as well, so keep that on your radar. Ultimately, as the bill came, the price was very manageable even with the alcohol. It's nice that you don't fully have to break the bank to have a nice meal in Tyler thanks to places like Twelve. I rate it a 12/10. Get it? hahahaha... RIYL: A slightly adventurous, but affordable night out.

They found seating for our large group, and we had one of the most attentive, personable, and organized servers I've ever experienced. I wish I had gotten his name because he deserves all the recognition. We had four generations of family represented, and somehow he kept everyone's drink orders, straight, even the refills. He made sure every order was correct despite special requests and substitutions. He timed the appetizers and entrées perfectly, so no one was awkwardly waiting for their food, and he split all of our checks quickly and accurately. On top of all that, he managed to make friendly conversation and kept everyone in a celebratory mood the entire time. He was genuinely impressive. The food was just as enjoyable, the menu offered a variety so everyone found something they were excited to order. I had the cedar planked salmon with the most delicious bourbon glaze. We also shared the deviled eggs and the chips and dip which were both good. Even the chicken tenders got rave reviews from the young ones. We couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate PawPaws 90th birthday. Great food, exceptional service, and a wonderful experience for the entire family.

Our appetizer which was a long platter could not be sat in the middle due to uneven tables. But even before that I sat my tea glass and spilled the entire glass . The waiter who was present came back and only partially cleaned it up and didn't replace our napkins which we had used to hold back the tea. My son had to go get napkins to clean his side of the table and a puddle of tea was still on the floor when we left. My tilapia for the first time had a fishy taste and mine and my wife's matchsticks vegetables were very sour for the first time. I did not eat mine. My son's chicken Parmesan dish had a macaroni cheese noodles. Last of all I was going to use my InKind app to pay only to find you no longer use it. First time ever I was disappointed here. Believe I have always given a 5 but 2 is best I can do today.

Great atmosphere, very clean and super friendly staff! Now, the important stuff: the food. We started by sharing a wedge salad, complete with bacon, blue cheese dressing, blue cheese chunks (yum!) and all the crispiness a wedge brings. Very fresh and the dressing was a clue cheese lover's dream. Had the pickle ranch wings and the chicken club sandwich with broccoli cheese soup on the side as our entrees. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. Now, here's what you should absolutely order if you go here. Do not skip the pretzel with a side of beer cheese or the desserts. The pretzel is like the old Auntie Anne's pretzels in the mall years ago - only a thousand times better!! I will never come here and not order this again every single time. If you like huge, fluffy, salty, crispy on the outside pretzels, this is THE place to get them!! 10 out of 10! For dessert, we got the trio dessert (can't remember the name), but it came with 3 different skillet cookies, topped with ice cream and whipped cream and it was sinful how good they were! We got the chocolate chunk, the caramel and the strawberry shortcake. No words. Just drool. Lots of drool! I can't wait to come back and try their burgers, steaks and pizza - they looked so good too as I watched them being carried out to other tables.
