Chose this restaurant for lunch while in town for a baby shower. The service was about as bad as it could get. Once served, the only time the waitress came back to our table was to hand off the receipt. Our teas were never refilled. We then asked if we could get a refill on tea and some chips and queso. Our waitress said she would go take care of it. We waited another 10 minutes and decided to leave as she did not return. When we went to the counter to pay, we observed her sitting and on her phone. Hard to go wrong eating here. My usual is the Pollo Margarita m, I usually substitute grilled veggies for the rice. The generous amount of Pico makes the dish pop for me. Their beef fajitas are most always delicious. The 16oz Ribeye is usually quite good. Occasionally a bit tough, but not often. The seasoning and fresh flavor with grilled vegetables are delicious. Horrible. I've become a fan of "buy local", so I figured I'd try it. Well, I haven't eaten the dessert yet, but if it's in keeping with the entrées, I should probably put it off as long as I can. Bland, unseasoned, cardboard-flavored, and thoroughly disappointing. I've had better from the frozen section at Wal Mart, and I'm not being facetious. I would have returned to get my money back, but I figured I'd probably get that back in counterfeit too. I'll still attempt to buy local, but will never buy from this locality again. Very good TexMex. My favorite salsa in the area. Ask for the hot stuff if that is your preference. Never had anything that wasn't good. Wife likes the soup occasionally. They make a VERY good hamburger; get it with the jalapeño bun. Chicken fried steak is good too as well their fish tacos. Check the sign out front for the special. read more

My father works near this place in Troup, so we came here for lunch while I was visiting from San Francisco recently. There was a time when I'd have been a bit tougher on this place, but ever since I moved to San Francisco I've come to appreciate how special generic tex-mex places like this really are. When you live in a place where they think queso is a bowl of shredded cheese, and salsa is pico de gallo, being able to get a tasty chimichanga with queso and some decent refried beans can be a pretty great experience. Of course this is far from the best tex-mex in the area, hell it isn't even that great, but what it is is your consistent generic tex-mex joint that every little town in Texas has. The chimichanga was nice and crispy, the refried beans flavorful, the salsa decent, and the service was great. Lunch for three ended up being a paltry $21. In a town with as few lunch options as Troup, I'm sure La Hacienda is a welcome addition. read more

So I walked into the restaurant at around 3 pm today. The place was empty of patrons but happy young hostess jumped up to greet me immediately and sit me at a table of my choosing. We had a funny exchange as I mindlessly ordered the daily special and found out that the "BHS and CHS meal" was in fact a beef & cheese enchilada plate. She ensured I was happy with my choice of sauces and sides before relaying my order to my server. My chips and drink arrived promptly, and I decided their salsa was alright after trying both their mild and spicy varieties. It wasn't long until my meal arrived. I just had an enchilada, rice, and beans plate, but I was hungry and the food was excellent. I've ordered more complicated meals there, but today I was by myself, reading a book, and in the mood for something quick and cheap. Overall the meal was fantastic for the price (a little over $8 before tip), the service was attentive, I liked the soft rock they were playing, and am very happy to eat there. I've been there several times in the last year and have had a good experience regardless of when I've been by myself or with the kids, and when they were busy or empty. read more

I went recently as La Herradura is closed. I ordered the spinach queso which the waitress let me sample before I ordered . It was very good in my opinion and would be a reason for me to return . They don't serve alcohol which is not a big shock . The chips and salsa was ok but not spicy . I had bistec tacos off lunch menu and fair to say you receive a good portion for the price . I will try fajita meat next time as the bistec wasn't that flavorful but overall good dish read more

THE WORST MEXICAN FOOD EVER. chips and salsa... chips are ok... lack salt...but the salsa tasted terrible. Like canned stewed tomatos or at best the bought the generic worst brand available next door at Brookshire's. Just AWFUL!! Enchiladas tastes funny. Chose chili as topping. No flavor. Gross would be polite. We decided to try this place because it got a perfect score on it's health inspection. Turns out...it's a sanitary landfill. We walked in and were promptly seated next to the only two occupied tables in the place. WTH? Our waitress was having a VERY loud conversation with another table. She comes over and takes our drink order, then proceeds to finish her conversation with the other table BEFORE bringing our drinks! Then just plops them down on the table without so much as making eye contact. While our waitress continues to talk to the other table, someone else brings our chips and bowls of knock off Pace Picante Sauce. The chips tasted like the grease hadn't been changed in the fryer since the restaurant was established--apparently something not regulated by the health department? Ten minutes later our waitress takes our order while complaining to the other employees that she should already be off. I ask you, what restaurant has shift change at 5 o'clock? We eat here often. We eat at the Troup location as well. Tonight I ordered the chicken fajita wrap. They left out the queso. They also put the sour cream in the container along with he pico. Therefore, the whole wrap was a soggy mess. The Troup location puts sour cream, queso, and pico in small containers which protects the wrap. Please learn from the Troup location. Roy, Jack and Tina must be La Herradura trolls or something of that ilk to trash one heck of a hole-in-the-wall, little town crown jewel of Tex Mex ....what we affectionately refer to as La Hac (lah hass). Instead of ordering beef enchiladas that are so-so, have the mouth watering chicken enchilada verde made w/fajita chicken and a verde sauce that incorporates avocados that is finer than a new set of off road tires. Tell em to skip the rice and bring grilled veggies instead -big upgrade at no extra cost. Mmmmmm Mmmmmm MMMMMM!!! Spinach quesadillas are also a very good choice. And we LOVE their hot sauce. I've eaten here several times and have always had a positive experience. Unlike some of the other reviews. Food is good. Portions are great and the prices are more than reasonable. Hot sauce is good and not too hot. Chips are served unsalted I'm sure because a lot of folks are health conscious. But I always salt mine with a shaker as soon as they hit the table anyway so that doesn't bother me. Overall it's a nice clean little place to get your Tex-mex fix on. read more

Unfortunately I must review La Hacienda based on the unprofessional service I received today on a call in/carry out order. Before I even took the time to place the order, I verified with "female name withheld" that someone would still bring the order out to the car; curbside. She told me they were open for entry and I explained I am immunosuppressed and would need curbside OR I'd need to NOT place my order here today. Pretty simple. She then understood and said call when we arrived so the order could be brought to our car. All good until my husband placed the call to La H. when he arrived only to have the phone picked up/then hung up. This repeated for four times until my husband decided he would have to walk inside for the order. Upon telling the person at the counter his name for the order, no one could locate our order. My husband called me to verify that I had called THIS location; yes I had and I then gave him the name of the girl. After they found HER, they somehow found the order. Utter chaos. The food isn't even home yet however I truly wanted to express my disappointment in the staff and service we received today. I wouldn't want another family to experience this frustration as we have. read more

Your typical small town Tex-Mex restaurant. The chips and salsa weren't that great but the main entree was good. They were extremely busy during the lunch hour and the wait staff didn't handle the pressure well. If you're not wanting to drive into Tyler and are wanting to support a local establishment then I would definitely recommend. Prices were very decent. read more

am a South Texas transplant, and I shudder to see what passes for "mexican food" up here ... happily, La Hacienda fills the void between those visits back home. Pretty much, everything on the menu is worth ordering. My husband loves their ranchero steak, which comes with sautéed veggies I'd kill to have the recipe for. I've had enchiladas (chicken fajita with sour cream sauce is my favorite), tacos, fajitas ... their hamburgers are the best I've found ANYWHERE in East Texas, very juicy with good, beefy flavor.
