We ended up buying one of the stuffies from the deal tin this round... usually we end up buying something bigger. The person at the register was very nice and friendly. Store was in order and easy enough to find items that you would see on the website. If you are vertically challenged, bring a tall friend as you will need assistance to get to things on higher shelves.

It was comparable to the kawaii stores you see photos of from Japan. I'd never seen a bacon stuffie or an avocado one either. They had so many different food options, color options and even cute dogs in little outfits that look like other animals. I ended up getting a dog in a froggy costume because I just can't say no to a frog. The only draw back is they are on the pricey side. They are worth it in my opinion but considering just one medium sized squishable was $30, it is easy to rack up a bill if you need multiple items. They had ice-skating shows every other hour and places to warm yourself; like log fire pits as well as cabin tents that had heaters. The bumper cars were surprisingly funny and I had a good time figuring out the control configuration that would let me optimize rear-ending my sister as much as possible. The things they have on sale, nutcrackers, candies, hats and sweaters, were surprisingly well priced. The food and drinks were also well priced. In Fulton Market, at a pop-up, you become a little cynical and expect insane pricing but it actually was quite fair. I picked up some cute cookie tins as a last minute gift. All in all, the Jack Frost pop-up was a lovely surprise and with its excellent location in Fulton Market, you have plenty of dinner options for later! I do highly recommend a weeknight to avoid crowds!

One of my favorite things at the shop is the locally made Souldier guitar straps, made right here in the Windy City. This experience transcends culture and language. I also saw the premier of Okja (South Korea) before it was released on Netflix. Survival Family (Japan) was a favorite, Sad Beauty (Thailand) fucked my mind, and Dear Ex (Taiwan) brought me to tears. I've also seen gangster movies, comedies and artistic dramas. All of them are new releases and many of them are North American premiers. There is usually a Q&A with a director, writer or actor which helps me understand the story even more; I initially watch the movie through my own lens and then I learn about it from theirs. Asian Pop-up Cinema is Sophia's passion project. She painstakingly researches all of these movies even before they're released and makes meaningful connections in order to bring them to Chicago. They are from all over Asia, all genres and many voices. Most of the movies are high quality productions made by experienced professionals; however, some of them are lesser-known voices who have important stories to share. I come away from Asian Pop-up Cinema events feeling humbled that I was allowed to experience an Asian story told by Asian people. It is truly a privilege that Chicago has Asian Pop-up Cinema.
