Maybe if they lease out a few of the offices to help defray the ever rising tariffs, but I kid of course. I remember when the township library was housed here, but as the collection of books expanded, a larger building was needed. A cynical person might say that this was also another ploy to increase taxes. You can also come here to get a passport or visa, pay your sewer bill( that somehow is not part of that already too high property tax bill) get building permits, and find out why your dbag neighbors are complaining about the length of your lawn. I imagine the mayor has a sweet office here as well, where she can come to get away from the stress of all those ribbon cuttings and photo ops. Now that I'm reflecting on all of this, I'm probably being generous with the third star.

The employee that I worked with (Caucasian female, brunette, late 40s, attractive) was incredibly thorough in going over the renewal process to the point of it being slightly overwhelming. Nonetheless, I was able to complete the application renewal process in a matter of minutes, as well as obtain my passport photo at a cost of $15. I'm not sure if the cost of the two pictures (one was an extra) is on the high end of things when it comes to passport pictures, but I wanted to get everything done quickly so that I could send my passport + renewal application directly to Philadelphia for processing. What's convenient about the the Mercer County Connection is that they'll provide you with a USPS envelope + labeling (especially to expedite shipping), as well as the location itself being adjacent to the Acme Save-On grocery store where you can purchase the $170.00 money order for $0.99. I didn't have a checkbook handy at the time, so this location came in handy at the absolute right time. For those that didn't want to pay the $15 for the passport photo, you can go across the street to the CVS Pharmacy or WalGreen's (I forget which one) to see if its cheaper. And of course, the post office is about 1.5 miles down the road in a small strip mall adjacent to Applebee's on Rte. 33. Altogether, I have much to thank the Mercer County Connection for. I greatly appreciate their organization in helping me mail out an expedited passport package to the US State department.

I don't understand why everyone there is always in a bad mood. People come there for assistance, to…read moreask questions and usually direction. But the employees there usually answer with sarcasm or speak to us "the customer" condescendingly. The girl I spoke with at the permit window was nice and patient. I figured she must be new, she hasn't been poisoned yet. But the woman who was "helping" a gentleman at the building code window was not very nice and her tone was uncalled for. I felt bad for him. The lady standing in line with me just looked at me and rolled her eyes. If you're overworked, underpaid, or just not happy... get another job.

When you go in, you have to relinquish your ID. I think. No big deal. The permit people are fantastic. Hey, nobody wants to shell out money for anything, but such is life. One woman almost made me cry. She showed so much compassion to me that it struck me: I did not even know her, and she was so sweet in a sea of people who had robotic emotions or no empathy. (I am not special, but everyone deserves basic respect.) And the tax peeps- they never tired of answering questions. They were a big help. They were nice, both in person and on the phone. I almost forgot that I got married in this building. I had on a crown of rose leaves, and a teen library patron seemed struck by that. Afterwards, my dad told my husband to "take care of his baby." The police are in this building. No misbehaving. They will drag you into court. You can park across the street if there are no spaces left. The lots are tiny. The schoolhouse is still there. I hope it always will be.

If you receive a traffic ticket, have a landlord tenant dispute, breach of contract, or unpaid obligation, this is the forum where the dispute is originally heard before a District Judge who was elected to the position by the electors (legal residents over 18) of those towns. While no juries are empanelled, the judge has broad experience in all the issues that can be resolved within its jurisdiction. Even the most serious criminal offenses begin with a preliminary hearing in front of this judge, before being sent to the Court of Common Pleas in Doylestown. The clerks here are friendly and efficient processing the considerable paperwork. Cases are set for trial quickly, usually within the first 30 days of filing. The aphorism, "Justice delayed in justice denied," is seldom invoked here. Cases move to conclusion, or are transfered to a high court without time wasted. While appeals are by right in almost all matters, amazingly few litigants are dissatisfied enough to take their problems to the next level where time and expense can become very relevant. I was pleased with our result today.

For those of you who don't know downtown Trenton, NJ, the Richard J. Hughes Justice Center is the…read morehuge glass and steel turtle that sits at the bottom of Market Street next to Route 29 at the Delaware River. It looks like it belongs in a Transformers movie and is about to become unmoored, ambulate and jump into the river. When designed, the architect was likely riffing on the pace of justice in this state. Accurate, but it was also the place where I was employed for several years by the Office of the Public Advocate, and where I had oral argument before the Appellate Division and the Supreme Court of New Jersey on occasion. So, I am familiar with the structure and have mixed memories of my time there early in my legal career. Security was tight getting in, as it must be. Once passed the suspicious eyes and scanners, the long escalator ascent to the courts and offices always gave me mild vertigo looking down into the expansive lobby. It took a week before I found the cafeteria, and longer than that to locate the right elevator to the underground parking garage. I wasn't allowed to park there anyway because of my low rank and poor design, but it was nice to know in case of emergency. While the offices were pretty utilitarian, the higher courts were quite elegant and impressive in a courtly way - always slightly intimidating, but no doubt designed to bring out the best in those who labored there on behalf of our clients great and small. Worked for me. I never lost a case on my feet in those hallowed halls. Same can't be said for the multitude of commitment hearings undertaken on behalf of our mental health clients vacationing in the various institutions around the state. Sometimes the "least restrictive alternative" meant a long sojourn in the big house, where concepts of timeliness and constitutional protections were lost in the haze of potential dangerousness. Still, we all pushed as far as we could to find something that would benefit our clients, even if it meant more visits to the commissary for snacks or smokes. Was justice served in this temple of jurisprudence? Depends on the day and time. We had our victories and our setbacks, but always had the sense that we were playing our part in helping both our clients and the public at large be as safe as humanly and legally possible. Sometimes a delicate balance. Always had to hope the judge cared as much as we did.

The view from the sixth floor facing the river is pretty nice. Lots of opportunities for lunch nearby. The elevators are generally in working condition and security is nice if you are properly credentialed. Sometimes the men's bathrooms can get a bit dirty, and fire alarms are especially unpleasant.
