Several booths had discounts between 30 to 50 percent "for all items in this booth". During checkout, was informed discount was not available!?!? Showed pictures of signs to management. Management refused to honor advertised price. Disappointing experience shows poor management that is not willing to accept responsibility. read more

I heard so many good things about Merchant Square Antiques and I'm sorely disappointed that it didn't live up to my expectations. Half of the booths weren't even antiques (freeze-dried candy, glittery travel cups, baby bows, etc.) and the other half were way overpriced. This is a problem with the majority of antique malls now, which is unfortunate. It seems like the vendors that own these booths are trying to price things based off of unsold eBay listings, which just isn't what most of these items are actually SELLING for. I love thrifting and antiquing so much and it's really disheartening to walk into a place like this and have it be 85% overpriced junk. Reselling is the ~hot thing~ right now, so I'm hoping the trend of way overpricing things will die down in the next few years. Also, I only took one picture while I was here because it was just too laughably outrageous not to. Wine glasses from the Dollar Tree priced at, no kidding, SIXTEEN AMERICAN DOLLARS A PIECE. I literally laughed out loud when I saw this. I don't think we'll be coming back here any time soon. read more

I experienced the "booth discount" confusion once again on a recent trip to Merchant Square (MS). This time I was told "no discount is available" on the item I intended to purchase - didn't make a purchase this time. I don't think I've ever received any sort of discount on items during any past visit to MS, even though there are colorful percentage-off signs in many booths. Cashiers' comments have included "that discount starts tomorrow" or "that ended yesterday" or "the item has already been marked-down". Sometimes there are pre-recorded messages over the PA system saying the same. I don't understand. The parking lot is in serious need of repair as well. I won't be back. read more

Manager is incredibly rude! Wanted to buy a few old coins from the case and she came up screaming. We wanted to tell her which coins we picked out and just by pointing she snapped " you can't put your hands in there". Other customers stared stopping to stare , she was so loud. Told her we decided to not get anything and as we walked away she was still screaming " I'm the manager here so if you have a complaint you talk to me". This is a new store---vintage, Antique, and boutique mall. It is unlike anything else in Kansas City! Great variety, well-maintained, friendly staff, and accessible to all. There are much better places to shop in the area that are honest and treat their customers fairly. Was there on Saturday the 14th and seen how poorly they treated a customer who requested they honor the sale discount that was hanging in the booth. They flat refused. I was looking for something to do to keep me busy. I took on having a showcase here at Merchant Square. I had no idea that it would be so much fun. Everyone at Merchant Square are like family, so friendly and always helpful. I can go there and check out or fill my now (3) showcases, but I can't help walking through the entire store because everything changes and new items in these booths and showcase are brought in regularly, especially with the seasons and holiday's. I love shopping at the Merchant Square in Independence, MO - Lots of new things - BTW I love the coffee store there that offers not only a lot of different flavored coffees, but also Estate coffees from their specific regions that are the best! I really enjoyed my visit to Merchant Square. It is extremely clean, bright, and filled with great old and new finds.
