My husband and I tried out this antique store for the first time on one of the first Fridays of the month in the afternoon. It was a fun place to look at the wide variety of antiques. The service was good and the ladies were fun and friendly. They have a lot of merchandise of a wide variety throughout the warehouse. There were some things that I thought were reasonable, and there were other things that I felt were out of price range, but I believe that's individually priced by the person selling it. I purchased two handcrafted notecards with envelopes by a local artist. They were along the price range of a Hallmark card or slightly under. We would recommend this particular store! read more

This is hands down my favorite vintage shop in the west bottoms! I never know exactly what I will find, but I always know I will be going home with something. I stopped by in December and they had the best Christmas and holiday decor. I was also able to find gifts for a few people on my list. I think they have a great selection and things are generally reasonably priced. I am not a vintage expert, but I still like the pieces they have. Don't be fooled by the shabby chic/rustic aesthetic of the first room. I promise there is something for everyone inside this 3-story treasure trove that is only open once a month on First Friday weekends. Follow Bella Patina on Facebook to get sneak peeks at available items. I've seen people waiting outside the door at 8:00 am waiting for the doors to open at 8:30 am so that they can swoop in and find the items they've been waiting for. Make sure to get coffee and a snack at the Painted Rooster on the top. Bella Patina is one of the best antique/vintage warehouses in the West Bottoms. What a cool spot! I love all things vintage and decor so it's really neat to see some very unique items. Especially since there is so much to peruse. There are lots of different items of all different styles so it's easy to find something you'll like. It has multiple floors and a hidden gem of a restaurant inside! Surely, the sport of searching through old, sometimes charming, sometimes battered and broken, sometimes pristine and priceless furniture, curios, glassware, books, is one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend day. Some people go golfing. Some people go hiking. I go antiquing. This was opening weekend for the newest antique shop in what is quickly becoming the "Antique Row" of The Bottoms. Truly, I prefer this area to 45th Street ("officially" recognized as Kansas City's Antique Row) for several reasons: -affordability -selection (typically more late 19th century through mid 20th century) -arrangement of items in the "booths" -relaxed vibe -friendly vendors who will often bargain with you Antique Row has some fantastic, often stunning items, but it's all out of my price range (I mean, *really* out of my price range. I refer you to my review of Portobello Road & Camel Antiques where I casually asked the price on a desk and it turned out to be more than twice the price of my car). Bella Patina is yet another wonderful addition to the Bottoms. Although not as crammed full with things as neigbhors Liberty Belle and Good Juju, today appeared to be a great start for them. I especially admired all of the vintage linens which were in excellent condition, offered by several vendors. I spoke with one of the gals who had an area (it's a bit less "boothy" here than places like River Market Antique Mall) after I admired a set of green chairs that I came very close to buying. She told me from the get go that she was in the mood to bargain. Nice! I would have grabbed those chairs, but I wanted to look around a bit more here as well as Liberty Belle and Good Juju (where I ended up finding my dream slipper chairs). I look forward to returning to Bella Patina once a month to see what new lovely things they have in store for us. I have very high expectations of this shop! read more

Bella Patina just has to be good based on how many people flood in and out of here on the popular First Friday weekends in the bottoms. I've never been here when it wasn't packed full of people. Onto the antiques, I feel like this place has good taste. Time and time again, it reliably has quality stuff and while packed, it's still possible to move about. In fact, I'd put this into the "must-visit" category if you're spending a weekend day in the West Bottoms as it's a good representation of the quality antique stores around there. The price point is pretty spot on for what they have too. Definitely a fun way to kill an hour or so and maybe find something to dress up the ol' home. read more

I must admit I have avoided the West Bottoms, probably because I don't love the "hype". But I love vintage and antique stuff and my friends kept raving about the stores down there and showed me some of the stuff they picked up, so I thought it would be best to go with an open mind and see if I could find anything cool. Out of all the stores in the Bottoms, Bella Patina hit all the notes our group was looking for. Firstly, it's a cool space to work your way through. Each floor has a totally different vibe and the inventory spans from industrial to shabby chic to retro to rustic. My friends all have varied taste so none of us felt left out looking through Bella Patina. Make sure to ride the giant freight elevator, it can take you to any floor and its an experience that anyone would love. This place is huge, we spent probably 3 hours here, which was significantly longer than any other place. It was cool that vendors here negotiate on prices (some stores don't). I got a stack of records at a bundled rate, it was a steal! They advertise that there is a restaurant but an employee said there was electrical issues and the restaurant would return in October. When I go back I will review the food for sure. Bella Patina's employees were very helpful and would hop up to move something or check if a vendor would negotiate on a price. A big highlight is the vendor with the industrial pieces on the first floor. I am going to start saving money so I can take home something from that booth in the future. read more

I've heard about this place for a long time and came with excitement and high expectations. Most of the store is well laid out and decorated like their Instagram -- really neat and like a magical world into the past in the best of neat memories with a hybrid merging into a more contemporary cozy cottage style of decorating merged into a mercantile style shop. For that reason - it's a place to visit in a really neat area called the West Bottoms. For those who live by it or have known about it and the growing trend in this area of a niche cluster -- a fairly big cluster now -- this is nothing new. Yet, many I think do not know how this area has developed and changed into a shopping district that's unexpected in the location it is in. Flying by or driving by unfamiliar with the area it looks like a industrial ugly area with nothing artistic or creative or a hot spot for interior decorating with the unique cottage vintage trendy style, but that's what it has become. Be sure to check the hours and days, as it's only open a few days a month. During first Friday's. The food in the restaurant on the top floor was also really great. Go early and get breakfast as it's a good one. Not much in terms of ambiance to eat at the tables, but great food. I gave it 4 Stars instead of 5, because maybe 1/4 of the vendor displays on the shop aren't laid out well or in the style and theme of the rest of the store. The Instagram for the shop also gave me the impression it's a lot bigger than it is, it isn't small, but it's not huge either. I also liked the sofa store a block or two behind the store to the north east. It's got better hours and open more days of the week, but is new retail niche interior decorations. I am totally hooked. We came to see our friend's set up here and we had no idea the West Bottoms had First Friday weekends. This is an amazing event. But on to Bella. I am biased because we only went into Bella but we quickly wished we had brought a Uhaul. The vendors within this place are so talented. Everything is creative, original and very well made or refurbished. Everyone was so friendly as well. You can tell the owners care about their vendors. I cannot wait to go back next month to add to the piece we bought. It is very kid friendly and they have a lot of information on their website. The staircase is narrow but everyone is very kind about taking turns going up and down. It is a smidgen hot but it is an old building so to be expected. The pick up process of large items is smooth. You can either pull up and they load it for you or you can arrange to come back another time. The loaders are very gentle with your items and friendly. Come with a plan, come with tie downs or even a Uhaul! read more

Of the big antique shops in the West Bottoms, Bella Patina has the most diverse and well-priced selection. Yes, their first floor is uber Shabby-Chic, but to find the best deals go up the stairs and you'll be pleased with what you find! I made out like a bandit by finding unique and beautiful gifts to hand out at Christmas. The staff is very helpful and will help you compile your purchases between the floors so you don't have to climb those old factory stairs with your finds. As a general rule of thumb for any of the antique shops in the West Bottoms, get their Friday morning as close to opening as possible. You'll get a few good hours of shopping in before it gets a little too crowded. read more

I originally was going to give Bella Patina 2 stars, because man I really don't like much of anything that's in here. It's all VERY girly and pink and shabby chic and makes me wanna barf. Just about every aspect of Bella Patina's aesthetic gets on my nerves. But then I changed my mind. Maybe as a dude I shouldn't judge an obviously female-catering store so harshly. It's not like they're TRYING to attract 30-something men with their wares. So let's talk about their good qualities: - They are clean, well organized and well lit. Bella Patina looks like it could be moved to a neighborhood such as Brookside and still fit right in. - Even though it's all the aforementioned shabby chic aesthetic that I don't much care for, I can still recognize that it's QUALITY shabby chic. If that's your look, you'll find things you like here. - The staff is friendly, with sunny dispositions. I can't give Bella Patina 4 stars, because ultimately I'm not a fan. But so long as I don't have to go here, Bella Patina is A-OK. read more

I've purchased multiple knick-knacks that fill my loft with character and make me smile every time I see them. Bella Patina is a wonderland of vintage everything! The refurbished furniture is beautiful, perfectly done and attention to detail is their specialty! The store is filled to the brim with beautiful items in great shape and the booths are staged to perfection. I make an effort to go 1-2 days every weekend they're open and I'm always finding new things both inside the store and all along the sidewalk. The vendors are kind and helpful; and they make it a great atmosphere to shop. The music and wine on Friday nights makes for a fabulous start to my evening out! I went to JuJu and Liberty Bella and the customer service didn't even compare to the treatment I received at Bella Patina. The location is great and you can always find what you need or want and it won't kill your pocket book. I would recommend this store time and time again. This is probably my favorite store in the West Bottoms right now. I love the selection and it's not all just one type of design. I also love that vendors are often here on site to talk to, and I love that the prices are decent for the work put into the pieces. The customer service is fantastic and I've had no issues getting help or assistance. Truly there is a good vibe here, and people who love what they do, and it shows. If there is just one place you visit, this is a favorite, and one that I highly recommend. I found some great pages out of old large-format magazines from the 1950's that are just awesome and inexpensive. This place is definitely worth browsing - at first I was a little disappointed but after more in-depth searching there were some interesting items that were to be found. I have found several great items to bring back. Bella has a wide range of different styles from shabby chic/country cottage to Mid Century Modern and lots of other styles. My favorite vendor is Meg. She has the little cubby on the 2nd floor and has expanded to out in front of the little room (the room typically has items for nurseries/kids rooms). She is VERY reasonable and talented. My second favorite vendor is on the first floor, right when you walk in...antique hotel doors for coffee tables! LOVE. One hint, mind the stairs, especially the third floor stairs, well, and the stairs to the entrance...they can be slippery and aren't very deep. Other than the stairs (adventure), this is a great place to shop for First Fridays. OH! almost forgot. There is a sweetie who knits all of these hats for babies/kids, and she can custom make them for you too. I had her make one for my toddler for Christmas, and it was really cute. read more

Bella has turned into the best in the bottoms! No pushing and shoving and workers ramming you with furniture while you try to shop. They reload. truly reload their items. If you miss the opening of juju you are just out of luck. Not Bella. Their tenants cater to the crowds all 3 days of the sale! And thier prices are so reseanable, like juju's used to be. And the variety is much better. Not everyone hae the same stuff, like not everyone has the same taste. You MUSt go to Bella. Bella Patina was very disappointing. . It like so many other "vintage" markets has the same painted, shabby chic furniture in the designer color of the moment along with various small nick-nacks, photos, jewelry and whatever HGTV is highlighting as the things to decorate your space. The spaces are styled into a general collage of items by what appear to be wanna-be decorator dealers. I see this everywhere I travel. No new ideas here. The thing that was most off-putting was a verbal altercation between some of the vendors and a customer which resulted in one vendor telling the customer multiple times to get out. I felt bad for the customer because she was essentially bullied by one vendor in particular. The problem was the customer had complained about the lack of pricing on a number of items. She said she didn't understand why with so few items in a space that things weren't priced. One vendor offered to call the dealer but the customer didn't want to wait to see if they could contact the vendor. Another vendor then told the customer she didn't like her attitude. Apparently one is not allowed to express their opinion about poor retail practices. I was shocked to hear her respond to the customer in such a manner. I've worked in retail and know how unpleasant some people can be but this was one of the worst possible ways to handle the situation. The vendor did not understand that often it's better to keep your mouth shut. If this had been an employee of mine, they would have likely been fired. With the current economic conditions I find it appalling to dismiss a customer so quickly. The customer did leave and the other vendors immediatly began talking about her while people shopped around them. It was an example of extremely poor customer service and ignorance of good business practices, especially for a business that's open only three days a month. I will bypass this establishment next time I'm in the area. One more thing, I also noticed most of these businesses in the West bottoms area don't appear to be handicapped accessible. They all had steps to climb and in some cases, the steps were crumbling or in need of repair. If you have trouble with stairs or need alternate access, don't waste your time trying to go to these businesses. I saw one woman in a motorized power chair. I doubt she was able to get in to any of these markets, or navigate in them if she was able to gain access. read more
