History

Established in 2001.

Mercury Sound and Lighting (MSL) began in 2001 when founder Dave Johnson, then an 18-year-old high school senior, started the company with a borrowed trailer and a Guitar Center Credit Card. The name "Mercury" was suggested by a friend on the day Johnson went to officially register the business. Driven by a passion for creating unforgettable events, Johnson pieced together a system and began renting it out, growing the business one small job at a time. After graduating high school, Johnson attended the University of Michigan-Dearborn to study business but soon realized his entrepreneurial spirit was best suited to building Mercury. Now, over two decades later, Mercury is a leader in the A/V industry with a strong culture and clear vision. Our talented team partners with diverse clients, from houses of worship to Fortune 500 companies, delivering exceptional audiovisual experiences. At MSL, we prioritize creativity and service to exceed our clients' expectations.

The store manager Tom is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He knows what he's talking about and can always point you in the right direction. The showroom up front features all of the sound equipment and there's a lighting room in back to show off all of the awesome fixtures they have. I was very happy with a recent rental of a subwoofer and mixer. The cost was reasonable and they reviewed the item checklist with me when I brought it back. If you can get out to 14 and Dequindre, do it. It's worth the trip.

We returned our item, but it never stated on the receipt or the web (which was not available) that their return was a 25% none refundable amount for returning the item.
