Physical therapy told my husband and I that I would never walk again and stated that I really neededto be trained to live in a wheelchair. To make a long story Short, I am now an outpatient physical therapy. Though I spend time in a wheelchair, I am learning to walk and will be able to do so with a walker independently. Additionally, the medical Director came to my husband and I and told us that I was dying, and should be placed on hospice. that was two years ago. All of my doctors are completely confused as to why he would've came to that conclusion. When we refused hospice, and refused to accept that I could not be taught more independent living, they discharged me. The facility itself is beautiful. It is clean and well-managed. However, they did not provide what I needed from them. Have they done so, I believe that I would be further along than I am now. Again, the good news is that I am progressing dramatically at this point.

It was arranged for her to go to Lorien Mays Chapel. I am writing to tell you that Lorien Mays Chapel was very disappointing and that my mother dramatically deteriorated there. Although they say the right things and have a lot of staff with all sorts of titles, they are really not set up to manage elderly women with dementia. They put her on a vigorous regimen of PT and OT which wore her out and there appeared to be a complete disconnect between their administrative staff like the dietician and their floor staff. In fact, the latter were more concerned about their break times and getting food from the small luncheonette there than with my mother. Lorien Mays Chapel has a good reputation and I think that for relatively healthy young to middle aged men or women who just need a little PT or OT, it is probably fine. However, for older individuals who need more care and attention, in addition to PT and OT, Lorien is not the place to send them. Seeing my mother deteriorate so quickly at Lorien, we managed to get her out of there relatively quickly - weak, very disoriented, and on oxygen 24/7. After returning back to her assisted living facility where they are better setup for her issues, she is much stronger and active again.

I have lived at Roland Park Place for over five years and I have no idea what Jt H is talking…read moreabout. This hatch job of a "review" makes me mad. It is dated 2017, two years after we moved in. True, parking is tight but, I took care of that by giving up my car. In the case of necessary travel to doctors appointments there is free door to door service. In normal times we can go on bus trips as far as NYC to films, opera, concerts, etc for a nominal fee. I have never seen or smelled anything bad in the dining room. On the rare occasion when a resident had an accident it was promptly and expertly cleaned up. I have never smelled anything bad. As far as the lobby staff being snotty and condescending nothing could be further from the truth. On one day, when my wife and I moved, in everybody on the staff knew us by name. In fact, I think we are coddled too much sometimes. And tipping is not allowed. At first glance the prices to buy in and the monthly maintenance fees seem pricey, but considering the great number of services and amenities it is it is really pretty much of a bargain. And there is even a fund that guarantees that if you run out of money, thur no fault of your own, you will, not be kicked out. Management rates an A+ in its efforts to keep us health in this time of Covid19 A very important intangible point, that can only be experienced by living here, is the friendship of the other residents. We have an a incredible mix of academics and professionals who are not only very friendly people who are also a joy to talk to and live with. I have made more friends in my five years at RPP than I did in my 60 years in Lutherville. Moving to Roland Park Place was the best move I ever made. I am happy to stay here for the rest of my life

The staff bends over backwards to accommodate in every possible way! They are even not only making it possible to have our unit reconfigured, but they are actively working with the architectural and engineering staff to do the best they can to fulfill our requests. Roland Park Place's activities, programs and events are a dizzying array of intellectual, cultural, health-building, recreational and travel opportunities par excellence. Once an apartment is reserved, the future residents are welcome to take advantage of all activities, programs, and trips. Already, we feel like we are joining a very close-knit family. We recently attended a posh reception that RPP sponsored to introduce us to many other future residents. While many current residents have aged beautifully in place having, however, slowed down quite a bit, we met lots of future residents who are vibrant, colorful, bright, interesting very active folks, many of whom bonded very quickly, discovering that we had many, many things in common. I can NOT imagine another place in which I'd like to spend my remaining years!!! A-AND I can NOT wait to move in. If you have any interest at all in a vibrant, fully alive, stimulating, convivial and beautiful retirement community, I urge you to visit Roland Park Place. I would like to say Thank You to Channel, Taylor, Janae, Shana, Elaina, Mia,Mandy,Denise these women were AWESOME at their jobs, They are all very attentive and really care about their patients! I say SALUTE them all! Job will done! My PT/OT Nazir and Shameena were the best working with me so that I would be able to come home and function and give me the confidence to achieve my goals with team work from the staff working with me! All my Doctors and Administrators were top notch and very professional. Amani, Robert and McKenzie were there to assist me when I had to speak to upper management! Now, here is Part II of my review that has to do the Kitchen Manager and the Kitchen! As you know when you staying in a Rehabilitation facility like Sterling, they are supposed to accommodate your Dietary Needs. I am Vegan/Plant-Based( meaning I don't eat foods that contain Meats like Beef/Chicken/Fish and Seafoods, and others items that contain Dairy like Cheese, Eggs and Milk) basically any living animal that has a face, I was at Sterling Care for 25 days and my meals were a nightmare! Because, there was a Kitchen Manager named Maria, who no idea or clue on how to prepare Vegan Foods for me to eat, it got so bad that my wife had to bring foods for to eat and I had order from DoorDash/Uber Eats and she even brung a Vegan Cookbook so she could get some recipes because the Kitchen could not make meals for me to eat. Even though the Director of Dietary went out of her way to make sure that the Kitchen had Foods that I could eat, the Kitchen Manager Maria dropped the ball and she was clueless and useless and definitely didn't know how to run the kitchen One day she had told me and another resident that she thinks outside the box when it comes to cooking the meals at Sterling and the next day when they bought me what was supposed to be a Vegan Pizza for my dinner, the next day I went off on this Kitchen Manager for her incompetence and ignorance for serving me something that looked like terrible! My whole stay everyone said that the foods being served was horrible and tasted like prison food! Another reason why I was so mad is because my health insurance was paying for me to eat meals that were for dietary specifically for me. But here's the kicker their were 3 other cooks who came and asked me what would you like to eat and these 3 cooks hit a home run when they were working and my meals were perfect and I knew when they were in the kitchen and the Kitchen Manager Maria wasn't working. It got so bad the Director was helping to make my meals correctly and I had to have a conversation with her District Manger to get some satisfaction! Because you have the title of Kitchen Manager/Chef doesn't man you can't learn and have an open mind and Food Service and Culinary. Myself, I'm a retired Executive Chef/ Kitchen Manager of 25 years and I still learn new techniques and ways to cook good foods. I really hope that the Administration and the Owners of Sterling Care review and take a look at my review and others about the Kitchen Management situation and maybe look into possibly getting a FOOD SERVICE Company like Aramark or Compass that can accommodate all dietary requirements and know how to cook but also have good LEADERSHIP! This is a wonderful facility! Although it's not brand new, they continually upgrade the floors,…read moreelevators, gym facilities, and other amenities. My husband has only been there for a few months, and we have been extremely pleased with the care he has received. When the button is pushed. If he needs an aide, it is usually handled within a few minutes. He has a completely handicapped bathroom, which is great. For the most part, male activity is a bit more difficult to be of interest, but the aide brings him in, and laughingly, he actually enjoys what he does! The staff will try to accommodate our wishes whenever possible. My husband isn't hungry since he isn't active, so he doesn't mention the dining experience. I've been told it is a work in progress, which is fine. There is usually music almost daily. The spiritual mind is also addressed if one is in the mood for their particular denomination. The front desk always has a smile for us. Thank you!

This is not a family oriented facility. Family members are not permitted in the resident rooms…read more Covid restrictions have been lifted but they still will not allow visitors to enter the rooms of their family members. It's like they don't want you to see what's going on. You have to make an appointment to see your loved one. Many of the meals are served cold, medications and not handed out in a timely manner, call button for health services go unanswered. The visiting hours are not good for working people as you can't visit once dinner starts at 4:30. Some of the staff make it seem like you are bothering them if you ask or need something. They do have large rooms but it comes at a high price.

My mother lived at North Oaks (including in the Autumn Ridge [Assisted Living] section) from late…read moreApril of 2014 until her death in late October of this year. She was in the Independent Living section during her first nearly-three years, and that's where the majority of problems transpired. There was a significant unresponsiveness of "in charge" personnel on multiple occasions: #1: One time my mother fell in her apartment and fractured her wrist. She called me and I got the Security guy to go up there, and he had an aide sent to my mother's apartment - but even though I'd already arranged for my nephew to go there and take my mother to the hospital, the aide *refused* to wait (a short while) until he arrived. #2: Another time, an aide forgot to go to my mother's apartment to dispense her medications (fortunately I was able to get a nurse from the Assisted Living section to go to my mother's apartment). #3: Another time, an aide became angry that my mother had already taken her pills before the aide's arrival (my mother had waited much longer than usual), and the aide - in retribution - didn't dispense my mother's next pill (which was *dangerous*) and she also didn't put out my mother's lunch foods (the latter needed to be done temporarily because my mother's broken wrist hadn't yet healed). Fortunately that aide was fired - but another time, the aide never went to my mother's apartment to dispense the morning pills. #4: My mother was erroneously billed for several things and multiple people kept refusing to delete those charges from her monthly bill (I handled all of those things - but the amount of time and effort required to contend with all of that was absolutely inexcusable). North Oaks has been under new management for more than a year and the situation seems to have improved - and admittedly it's probably a better place than many other facilities, which is why I'm giving four stars when otherwise I'd only give three. Meanwhile; during the 6 2/3 years that my mother lived in the Assisted Living section, there was a significant shortage of personnel during much of that time and a significant turnover of senior staff - although to be fair, covid had commenced about 3 1/2 years prior to my mother's death and therefore the former situation was typical everywhere. A few of the nurses worked there for a long time and they were wonderful. However; the ongoing staff shortage necessitated my needing to hire private aides ten hours/day for about the last 2 1/2 years of my mother's life, because it wasn't safe for her to be left alone for most of 24 hours/day - and she'd fallen in her room and broken her hip when left unattended for several hours before I'd hired the private aides (and I'm still devastated to remember that she was crying out for help and it took eons for someone to respond), so that was the precipitating factor in needing to hire private aides. Needless to say, the cost of those aides was exorbitant when combined with the cost of the facility.

My grandparents moved here and had an absolutely horrible experience. From the moving process, to…read morehaving property stolen, to being uprooted for renovations and moved into a dysfunctional apartment, to the abusive dining staff (only in the early morning when the families aren't around to witness - but I did), to the management that puts residents off expecting they'll forget the problems or just give up because they're old... this place is the pits. Living there was hell for my grandparents and certainly not a welcome experience in their late stage of life. North Oaks does a very good sales pitch and presented quite well but after the money is in the bank, the contract's signed, and a few months into the daily life their true colors start to show. After moving out. receiving back their "return-of-capital" returned took an excessively long time and required much follow up. Moving into this property was my grandparents' final plan. The stress that living there caused gave my grandfather health issues and lowered their quality of life. We wound up moving them to another (IMO far better run and significantly cheaper) retirement center at their request despite the cost and hassle because the conditions wound up being too hard for them there. Moving again caused them further hardship. Be very wary when considering this property for a loved one. Things aren't always how they appear to be from the outside.
