We moved my dad into Arden Courts, Towson in October 2021, from a recent stay in a hospital for…read moreevaluation of his dementia. Overall, the facility is nice, it's clean, and there are activities that help many of the patients. The PT that comes in to help the residents is the best. However, when we applied, they happily came to our residence to get the non refundable "administrative fee" of $4k, paperwork and a few personal belongings. We were new to this, which they knew. We were never given a list of things to bring for my dad to help out, such as how much clothing, and what type of clothing, toothbrushes, razors, shoes etc. We were never told what to expect or how to communicate concerns. They did not shave my dad or groom him on a regular basis. My mom would bring his electric razor to shave him when she visited. Their beds are twin beds, close to the floor but are not hospital beds and don't have side railings. They medicate per a part time Doctor and part time Psychiatrist with no communications to the family. At one point my dad was so over medicated, he couldn't hold his head up and could barely eat. The mental health med, prescribed by the psychiatrist without any knowledge to us, is very strong. It was stopped once we questioned why it was being given. Be prepared to pay additional fees each month. The staff, while pleasant, are always on their personal cell phones not paying attention to patients. The Director has an extremely passive aggressive communication. Anything that happens is never her fault. The blame is frequently reversed or pushed elsewhere. It took us weeks to get a caregivers meeting scheduled. Weeks went by with no communication regarding the meeting. Once the meeting occurred it was the Director and the head nurse. No Doctor, no psychiatrist no other individuals. At this point, we are moving my dad. The Director has made repeated calls to the rehab facility and my mom requesting to evaluate him to bring him back. There are other facilities. This place may work great for some people. It's not for us. We wished to be involved in my dads care and visited many times a week. There just seems to be minimal coverage which is really tough on the staff that is there.

Beautiful living areas. very homey, all the staff is nice. Kay is great.read more

My life is now complete because I got 'first to review' at a retirement community on Yelp. I have…read moreto say that I was impressed in every way with Edenwald. When you think of a retirement community you may be one of the people that thinks of a sad place where people are put to be forgotten. That's certainly not the case at all with Edenwald. It felt like a bustling community to me. More than once I thought "I wouldn't mind ending up at a place like this someday." Security wise there is a person manning the front desk at all hours of the day. Ask that person for the guest Wi-Fi password. There is a lobby where you can sit and wait for people where there is also a gift store. I didn't see it but apparently they have a fitness center and pool here. On the activity board they have a listing of all the activities that are taking place on site. They also offer multiple day trips to interesting sites around the area. If you don't want to drive to do errands they will take you places such as Trader Joe's. They have multiple restaurants on site. I got to sample two of them. One of them was a casual cafeteria. The other one was what we called "the pub", which serves alcohol. There is also a fancy pants restaurant across from the pub, but they enforce a dress code. I wasn't doing backflips over the food, but it was much better than I expected and I enjoyed my meals. I thought the nicest thing about the living quarters was that once you go inside and close your door it just feels like an apartment. You have a fully stocked kitchen, which is nice. Even though you have your privacy there are ways in the bathroom and bedroom to alert the staff that you need help. All the amenities in the world wouldn't matter if the people weren't treated right. I have to say I was constantly interacting with friendly people. Multiple times on the elevator the residents would be cracking me up. One man told me that he hoped I wasn't going to the 25th floor because that was his private penthouse. If you have an aging relative who wants their independence but could use the safety/security of assisted-living I can't think of a better place then Edenwald.

Compassionate staff everywhere, not just in nursing services. Independent living activities and…read morethe food exceed our expectations everyday. No more big house, lawn, maintenance- gone. And now we have 14 people on our skilled maintenance crew, plus house keeping services, and our own kitchen/serving staff. We were traveling for 2 months and the security team called twice to make sure we were OK! Sooo happy to spend the rest of my life here.

I came early by mistake and saw a resident at lunchtime being spoon fed by an employee who was very gentle and kind. It reminded me of what my Aunt required for nearly two years before she passed in Georgia. I commended the employee for her patience and love that she showed. I came back at dinner and was able to sit with my uncle to enjoy the meal. We had hamburgers, coleslaw, potato salad, chicken and corn on the Cobb. For dessert he had strawberry short cake and I had an ice cream sandwich. It had been years since either of us had these treats. I wholeheartedly fully recommend that you bring your relatives to Sunrise for the time when they need 24 hour care. Sunrise does much better than we could do at home.

I would not recommend this place. The people in charge are extremely rude. You ask them to describe…read morethe level of care that they are providing. They say it's based on a point system but when you ask them to tell you how the point system works, they hand you a piece of paper. My father doesn't need as much help as the gentleman that stays in the room next to him. It seems like it doesn't matter if you need help 10 times a day or once a day. If you need help, you pay extra regardless of the number of times that you actually need help. I need the number to the corporate office to file a complaint about what I witnessed a worker do tonight.
