Mercy College literally saved my life. When I started there in 2006, I was a confused 18 year old high school dropout. When I graduated in 2010, I was on my way to grad school and was actually an adult. I agree that the school can be disorganized--but I went to Hunter College for grad school and they were worse. Furthermore, we're adults (or supposed to be) if we're in college, so we can fight the system to get what we need. I had some professors who didn't care--but I had that in one of the top ranked graduate programs in the country too. I also had some AMAZING professors; James Towey and Ori Shinar come to mind. Furthermore, I was paying $9000 a semester (heavily subsidized by scholarships) and never had a class more than 25 students. My friends who were paying $40,000 a year often never had classes UNDER 100 students. Perhaps what differentiated me from my classmates, and people who had a negative experience, is that I jumped in head first. I went to every class. I did my homework. I paid attention and didn't play on the internet the entire class. I worked my ass off, and stayed up many MANY late nights. I also graduated with a 3.97 GPA. What I saw a lot of at Mercy was students who wanted to graduate from college without doing any work. With some professors at the school, it was actually possible--but don't complain when you don't learn if you won't work for it. I literally had a classmate say that she should be able to get an A in an upper level psychology course by just showing up to class, not studying, and never doing the readings. That's not how it worked. With that said, I did spend one year in the dorms and wouldn't wish that on anyone who is as introverted as I am. It's a small school, and there were only 200 students in the dorms the year I lived there; everyone knew EVERYONE, and everyone's business, at that. It was unpleasant, difficult to make friends, and a bit creepy to be living in a former convent. I have heard that they have remodeled however, so that may have changed. read more

Mercy's President is terrible and doesn't do anything by the Mercy Handbook. She discriminates and fires the best professors. Most of the courses are taught by adjuncts part time professors so that they don't have to pay qualified professors. read more

horrible!!! dorms suck. no garbage room on 2nd floor. kitchen on floor 1 has food in it from last year you have to park in h lot if you live on campus which is extremely deserted and far from the dorms. they have no apartments only communal showers you have to get a mealplan. you need 72 hrs notice for a guest to come. you can only have a guest six times per month overly expensive you cant park near the building you live in the student life sucks. nobody is around. the school is broke. they provide only to go containers at the dining hall. no plates. the food options suck and are extremely unhealthy you need to purchase food from your meal plan by the meal. no all you can eat option like a normal and functioning college. they are broke they look at you crazy if you ask for a cup for water. (you have to pay for a cup) only two places on campus are open during the weekends, probably because they can't afford to open the healthy places. you have to go through three security systems to enter the dorm. yes three. you have to bug res life to approve your guest request. mold in rooms. half of my floor was wet and moldy and it was a sweet smell. affected my breathing. i reported it three times until i told them i had to move. they did move me when i asked which was a good thing. but i had to advocate for myself way too much here. you have to pay for laundry which no other college makes you do that. washers and dryers stop working frequently and there are only two to three dryers per floor for about 80 people on each floor or more. floor floods in laundry room they have no loading zone to unload your stuff from your car. if you have a ton of stuff to bring up to your room and need to park your car near founders or hudson to do so, you have to call campus safety to tell them you are doing that so they dont ticket or boot your car. (they ask for your plate number car make and model, unbelievable.) the stairs near the h lot (parking lot) can easily trip you if you are not wearing the right shoes. they are stairs with the gaps and holes in them. they dont put salt down properly. i almost fell and hit my head. you cant even use the soccer field as it is only for athletes. you have to pay extra to stay during spring break and thanksgiving break when no other college even charges for that. they just got rid of 11 programs the bad all outweighs the good. the thing that keeps me going here are the people and professors but guess what; you can find that anywhere else. also the towns are cute around dobbs ferry and close to city. that is all i have to say thats good. other than that do not come here. i hope this reaches a prospective student deciding on where to go. it should not be here. read more

As a master's level alumna of the College of New Rochelle and a former student in Mercy University's Mental Health Counseling program (2015-2018), I feel it is important to share my experience for prospective students. Re-entering the program to complete my degree was made unnecessarily difficult. Initially, I was told I would need just two classes and to repeat my internship. Two months later, however, I was informed that I would be required to retake the entire program. While I was even willing to consider that, the university would not accept a professional recommendation from one of my former professors--who now actually works at Mercy. That speaks volumes about the trust the university places in its own faculty. Another significant concern: CACREP accreditation. Mercy has been "in the process" of pursuing CACREP accreditation since I first enrolled back in 2015. Nearly ten years later, the program is still not accredited. This is a major red flag, particularly for students seeking licensure and employment opportunities that often require graduating from a CACREP-accredited program. Bottom line: Save yourself the frustration. There are many other universities--both local and online--that are already CACREP-accredited and far more supportive of returning master's students. read more

Administration and advisory staff are abysmal. They hire young, poorly-trained staff to do academic advising and will just throw their hands up and say "oh well" if their errors cause problems for students. The expedited masters program is a farce and is not outlined clearly at all on their site or by staff, it will likely only get you a bachelors with masters credits which is not what is advertised all over their site. Take heed of their low price point, it's a warning. read more

Charges $1,000 per college credit, students at the Dobbs Ferry campus are cliquey and students seem to be segregated racially in terms of social groups. My classes would have been about $12,000 for ONE SEMESTER, and I couldn't get financial aid because I wasn't "poor enough". Transferred to a SUNY and it was 100x better. I recommend SUNY (or CUNY if you're looking to attendclasses at the 34th Street campus). read more

I have tried to apply for an online degree in order to augment my career. I was extremely surprised to find out they need my HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA in order to enroll. I have already graduated college twice and I have sent them my transcripts. I sent an email to them and the response was "sorry but we cannot take copies from abroad". I do not get it, it seems they aren't even taking time to read and understand aka comprehend basic emails. The woman who first spoke to me (Josh or something) was extremely rude and unprofessional and decided to fight me on the phone. No thanks. After reading these reviews I am beyond grateful it did not push through. I just wasted $55 bucks because I sent my college transcripts to them. Apparently that was not even enough. read more

Communication from upper management is disgraceful. You can emails deans multiple times and they won't respond. The only director I worked with literally would respond back to my emails 2-3 days later if I even got a reply. Stay away from here administration is terrible, took me a year to get my graduation credentials. They also made me take the wrong classes at one point. read more

I always considered Mercy College to be equivalent to a bum education. Felt my time there was a waste and the classes were nothing special. It's expensive, the professors are below average, admissions never really cared, and the students were all just fresh out High School that were rude and disruptive. Beware of the Education Masters Degree Programs! This review is in response to recent Mercy Ads misrepresenting how supportive they are. I encouraged my wife to take their Online/Campus Masters Degree Program. We thought that Mercy was well organized and had a good reputation, but we've had nothing but problems from the beginning. The Professors rarely try to accommodate working professionals, and often leave early from scheduled office hours. They create course schedules that force Graduate Students to be absent over 20 days during the academic school year rather than during the Summer Break. Twenty Days off will get you fired as a public school teacher. The Professors tend to ignore critical e-mails for weeks at a time, the program lacks structured student development, and they are unable to coordinate classes that allow a logical progression to graduation. Mentors are indifferent to basic student needs. They are a part time staff with a part time mentality. "Out of sight, means out of mind," was one student's comment. Heads of departments some times refuse to meet with students (even after already scheduling with them); using the excuse that they are just "...too busy." In one particular case as the Professor ran out, we noticed that she did have the time for casual conversations in the parking lot on her way to the car. Once you're in the Graduate Program plagued with bureaucracy, it's difficult to work your way out. The only good part of Mercy College is the beautiful 300 year old trees that you will be sitting under; as you wait for the Professors to show up and show some "Mercy" in letting you graduate. For a College with such an old Academic Tradition, I sadly expect that this college will go out of business when others decided to review the same disappointing experiences as ours. read more

The school grew too fast. How a school did not know they were taking in more students than they could house comfortably is beyond us. How can these people be trusted to educated the next generation if they can not even run their own business well. Even the construction workers in Aug could not say anything good about the administration personal they had met.. Being from a utility family I listened carefully to the workers comments, but did not really think it could be that way come move-in day...but hell came true. Communications was pretty non existent. Letters are sent to students that tell you to call and sign up by a specific date with a specific person who is on vacation for the month, and no one else in that office can help you because they have no idea what the letter is about. or my favorite "that information is available at the counseling office stop in for a copy", yea right I'll get right over that on my next 450 mile visit, could you mail it to me. Never got it, even though I repeated my address twice. Information that should be on the Web is lacking or poorly presented. Basic calendar information like move-in date and time is not there. Student/home Phone numbers change, you should be able to do it on-line. Parents need access to bill paying! Paying a bill should be upfront and easy to find, not hidden 8 layers down. SUNY does it simple why not Mercy. Our accountant had a fit trying to figure it out . The polite student inmates run the place. We spent the summer getting cursory incomplete voice mail replies from students from housing, admissions, registration for any of our emails, faxes or federal expressed requests. The school lost papers, lost checks,answered our basic questions with mis-information. On move-in day our daughter requested to leave after being assigned to a very overloaded makeshift dorm room of 5, This was not what we were shown on the spring visits or the late Aug. visit and was never mentioned all summer on our inquires. The room stress along with the schedule problems that we were told as a freshman to live with it. At $2000 a course I don't think so. This type of an environment does not lead to a good study environment, nor a positive college experience. read more

After having attended Mercy College for my freshman year of undergrad, I can say this is a school that is extremely unorganized and does not prioritize the things that would be in the best interest of their students. I found out about Mercy towards the end of my sophomore year of high school from my dad who is currently a professor at Marist College, and thought it seemed like a good fit for me when I first visited during the fall of my junior year. I admittedly was not nearly as motivated as I should have been about college, and I think I felt as though I would be able to get by as easily as I had in high school. I interviewed for and was accepted to the Business Honors Program, and was quite proud of this until about 3-4 weeks into the fall semester, when I began to realize how cliquey and unsupportive the entire program is from top to bottom. I felt truly out of place at school for the first time in my life and knew I had to make a change, and did so following the spring semester by transferring to Seton Hall University. While I certainly did not enjoy my time at Mercy or fit in at all, I did have a few very dedicated and passionate professors. Professor Chmiel and Professor Cerutti who teach marketing/economics and management/finance respectively are two of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure of attending classes for. The amount of time and effort they put in to help me and the rest of the students in the program individually was humbling, and I am fortunate to have learned from these two, even if it was for just a year. Also if you want to party at school DO NOT come here. The campus is absolutely dead on weekends and prohibits all substances, has no Greek life, and RAs are unbelievably strict. Unfortunately, zero is not an option in order to leave an opinion. I have been nothing but dissatisfied with the service from admissions, financial aid and the student services departments as well as some of the faculty therefore I am looking to go elsewhere next semester. It's hard to consider this a professional institution when the admissions, financial aid and guidance offices are so substandard (to say the least), phone calls and/or emails are not returned and paperwork is repeatedly misplaced. I would also like to inform everyone of its egregious medical withdrawal policy that only allows a consecutive fourteen day hospital stay as acceptable medical leave. Essentially, this would require life threatening illness in order to withdraw from classes without penalty, which is not a requirement of competing universities. I even experienced a professor that conducted class a day before the semester began and instructed the students who did not attend to "make up" the work. It's shameful and definitely not how businesses should be run. It appears as if Mercy College has a high standard that the students must uphold but does not uphold the same standard for itself. I would strongly recommend anyone to get an education elsewhere. I am! read more

One of the worse schools I have ever come in contact with.. my son is a PROSPECT student and these fools signed him up for classes that without him even understanding they DONT even have his degree program.. of a child that is turning 18 doesn't take care of themselves and you take advantage of that child when you know the parents are not there it's not right!! I hate schools like that.. all about the dollar and nothing else!! Who wants to lay $30,000 for a school that is not even Accredited with the Better Business Bureau!! You are a private college that takes advantage of students through student loans!!! No child should be taking a loan out his or her freshman year to pay for your lame school.. that's why you try to accept them before they get out of high school.. waste of time!! read more

Do not send your kids to this school. They are lazy and they make errors on your billing all the time,the people who work there are Nasty and lazy. 3 weeks before graduation they told my daughter she was short 2 credits and count not attend graduation,but it was the school who made the error and did not count her AP credits. Contacted the Presidents office and dealt with VP of Mercy and was rude and not caring. I have notified the State about this horrible experience and the lack of care for the kids. P.S. Love this school!!! I applied here senior year of high school and got accepted. Decided to go to a school closer to home for the first 2 years. Now made my decision and I picked the school I always wanted to go to since high school. The atmosphere here is so uplifting, all the teachers and staff members here are always willing to help. They call me when ever they see a problem with financial aid and can answer all the questions I have as well as answering emails in a timely matter. A lot better then my community college. Can't wait to start Fall 2018!!!! read more

Mercy College is disgusting. In general it would appear they make absolutely no effort to help students/people paying them tens of thousands of dollars for their services. Minimum hold time of 20 minutes any time you call (any extension/office). On a more personal level, the first major issue I had with them was when they expected me to risk my life by driving an hour to class during a blizzard or else fail my class for not taking the final (which was worth 50% of my grade). I actually tried to drive there and my car started swerving off the road as the snow had already accumulated several inches, not to mention there were warnings for hours before that telling people to stay home. Almost everything else was closed that day. I decided my life was worth more than the few thousand dollars I paid for the class, turned around and went home. They failed me for the semester for that class and refused to let me make up the final, even after I explained how I almost got into a car accident due to hazardous weather conditions. Then, due to an accounting error on THEIR end, I was stuck with a $1000 bill which I've been trying to pay off for the past few years (it's hard to finance when you have student loans you actually do owe to pay off). I missed literally one payment and they added a $100 late fee charge. I really don't know who they think they are, I've never heard of such a high late fee for anything. On top of that, I'm fairly certain my personal information was compromised here. Shortly after attending, my social security number was stolen and this is the only place I've given it to. I would give a 0 if I could. I attended Mercy College for my graduate degree in education. It seemed like a good choice at the time, but as the credits went by I was left wondering where my education was. There is no consistancy in the education department. One teacher tells you to do things one way and the next says something completely different. I was lucky enough to have classroom experience before starting this program, because if I didn't I would be graduating completely untrained and unable to manage a classroom. Each teacher tells you their philosophy and throws the new educational buzz words at you, but no one helps develop you as a teacher. The only classes that I learned anything in were the special education classes and that was because of the teacher, not the curriculum. This is also the same for the advisors. Each advisor you speak to has a different idea, intreprets NYS certification laws differently and directs your education in a different way. It's their jobs to understand the NYS certification laws and help you as the student navigate them to complete the program and yet they can't even do that. What's even worse is that they act like they're doing you a favor to see you and speak to you. They seem bothered to do their job, and they aren't even doing it well. Save your money on Mercy and get a real education else where. read more

I requested information for their Graduate Psych program multiple times and never received any information. I still decided to apply just because. After not receiving a confirmation for my application, and money, I emailed admissions and they finally confirmed it. Over the next weeks, Mercy contacted me 3 times to tell me they lost my transcript and found it. After the last time of my transcript being misplaced, I told them to withdraw my application and I would not to attending their graduate school because they were very unorganized and I accepted an opening somewhere else. Not even an apology in their reply, and oddly enough, 2 weeks later received a call for an interview with their graduate program...I never responded to them. read more

Unfortunately , I am a junior and I do go to school here and so far it has been the worst experience. Only reason I haven't transferred is because the 2 schools closer to me aren't much better. Pact mentors don't know anything and guided me to take classes that were not needed for my major my first year of college. I was a freshman taking classes that had juniors and seniors in them and when I brought this to the attention of my pact mentor numerous times she kept insisting not to worry, and that it means nothing so I believed her because of course one would assume that these "mentors" know what they are talking about since it is literally their job to tell students which classes to take. Then, mercy changes my pact mentor randomly in between freshmen and sophomore year and doesn't tell me why (maybe because someone realized that my previous one had fucked up). I then sat down and tried to map out my last two years as an undergrad but realized all the classes I needed to take to get my degree wouldn't fit into those last two years. Why? Because I was busy taking a language class and an art class my freshmen year which I later found out wasn't needed and that I should've been taking biology and chemistry so that I could continue with my degree. The negligent pact advisor who guided me to take the wrong classes now has me behind and I now will have to be here an extra year after my senior year to finish the classes that I do need for my degree. Not only has this caused me to have to spend an extra year here but it has left me feeling unmotivated and stupid for ever putting my trust and money into mercy college. read more

A 'great and easy' college at first but after staying there after your first year, you will see how unorganized their system is. Also the amount of fees that they give you and 'required' classes that they seem to give you during your last year without telling you until the end are just unfair and a way for them to make more money. Also their online classes are just terrible. I went to Mercy College for my graduate degree. First, I barely cracked a book and maintained a near perfect GPA. I attended an Ivy League school for my undergrad and I was used to professors that were experts in their fields. I didn't expect quite the same challenge at Mercy but I also did no expect professors that were completely unprofessional and inept. I had one teacher who showed up a total of three times and later left a vm telling me that we would all get As. She explained that she was paid by the number of students and there weren't enough of us to make it worth her while to come over the bridge. Another professor explained to us that ebonics was a product of "me tooism". The blacks in California had seen the mexicans go on welfare and they were all saying me too me too. A racist and disgusting sentiment at best and a severe display of ignorance at worst. Im still confused as to what welfare had to do with language. I had another professor who read from the text for the entire hour and would not even look up at us. For the final, she told us that she did not condone cheating, however, she would not be present during our exam as she needed to make some calls. Wink/wink. The Dean will give false information in order to have you enroll and then suddenly, out of the blue, inform you that you need several more classes. I use the pronoun you to indicate a collective set of students of which I have spoken to who all suffered the same terrible deception. I have had so many bad experiences at Mercy that I began to tape record conversations with administrators and/or to require agreement to my confirmation emails whereby I repeat all the important information discussed at our face to face meetings. This behavior discredits the value of our degrees. Id like to see Mercy College place some new and competent people in charge and make Mercy College a challenging and competitive school. read more

I enrolled in a program that was advertised as being entirely online. Then I was expected to commute from Long Island to Dobbs Ferry after work for in person classes. Finally, a representative from NYSUT teachers union (with whom the program was being offered in conjunction with) fought on my behalf and got Mercy to open an online course, as advertised. This semester, I am going through the same ordeal as I try to register for the next course in the program. Thank God I only have one more course after this. After completing a master's program and about 30 additional graduate level courses with Mercy College, I will say that most of their professors are excellent. However, they are very poorly run! They are not worth the headache. read more

Mercy College is a Joke. I am only staying there because I will lose credits if I transfer to another school and I am almost done with my masters degree. I am in the Mental Health Counseling program, the people there only help you if you develop a personal relationship with them; All tuition paying students should receive the same assistance. Role call: Marla Moulton, Lisa McHale, and Dr. Cullen are rude and, inept. This is the only Grad program that expects you to do an internship without assisting you with placement, other schools automatically place you. Mercy College charges an outrageous amount per credit and gives a majority of the students A's when they don't deserve in in order to keep the rating high. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY read more

I would have to agree with all the reviews I have read. I have had the same experience with this institution. I was told many different stories on different occasions. No one knows what the other one is doing. i feel like this college is a joke and all to take your money. i am also in the graduate education program and I have learned absolutely nothing all my years here. I really should have went to another graduate school. I am half way through now and going elsewhere I will lose credits that I have earned and payed a pretty penny for. Some professors are great and they have left an impression on me but those are few in between.Upon entering into the grad program I was told after had earned my bachelor degree that I needed another math and a science. That is just absurd then why was I awarded my degree!! This is just another way for them to take money from people. I will not make up 2 courses just because they say so. This school is way too costly to be having to deal with this nonsense. If your looking to just earn a degree for the hell of it and you want it fast and easy than mercy is the way to go. read more

Mercy college is a great school with potential professors who really want you to get by. I transferred in, and have had nothing but great professors. As for the negative reviews on here about unorganized administration, it is no better at any other college. My last college was much worse. It is the same everywhere. Ive been trying for almost 10 years to contact them in reference to my transcript and finally someone got back to me. Heidi from the registrar office was excellent in explaining to me the process. She very diligent and informative. Finally!!! I cant thank her anymore and cant express how important it is to finally get the information that Ive been need for so long. Terrible school. The program, especially the Occupational Therapy Masters program is horribly operated. Emails are never returned, phone calls go unnoticed, and you have to jump through hoops to get simple things accomplished. They pitch the "every other weekend program" by saying you can have a job when in reality they take two days out of the week for fieldwork; making the program unnecessarily long. Not to mention the first year of "pre-reqs"; do not let them fool you, you learn less than your peers at other schools. My advice: chose a different program. read more

I was fortunate to learn things and I did have good professor's. The bad part is that they loose paperwork and the staff is lost. I had help from an organization for disabled people helping me with my tuition and books they screwed up so badly with my papers that I was locked out from registering for classes and they are holding my transcript. I spent most of my time there doing peoples job. Other students complained but never did anything i seriously advise against going here. read more

This school is outrageously expensive and all you're paying for is the scenery. I was taking part time classes to stay in my budget and was told by an advisor that I had to take full-time classes to receive full financial aid coverage and not have to pay for anything. What a trickster she was. After 2 weeks of classes, I was called by the school and told I could no longer attend unless I paid a $3000.00 difference. "What?!?!?!?!!! How the hell?!?!?!?!!!" My "full aid" (TAP, PELL, Loans) which was supposed to cover the semester so I "wouldn't have to pay for anything" didn't cover all costs as I had previously been told. Now because of this balance I can't attend any CUNY, SUNY, or private college because Mercy refuses to give me my transcripts until this ridiculous balance is paid. I was tricked and deceived because they wanted to get all the money they could out of my financial aid. Not only are they deceitful, but they do not care about their students. Many times I asked for help and was sent to every department, only to be told there was nothing they could do for me. This is a money hungry college whose employees could care about the students. read more

I really should have done my research before coming here for my freshman year. I feel like some professors aren't really professors because of how they look/act. One of my professors looks like he just graduated from this college and got hired to teach here since he couldn't find a job elsewhere. With that said, some professors are not clear with what they teach. One of my professors even gave me an attitude for ASKING A QUESTION. When that happened, I knew, then and there, that I wanted to transfer to another school. I also had a professor that was always 30 minutes late to each class.The professors are not committed to the school, so why should the students feel enthusiastic to learn when the professors don't even want to teach. This school just wants your money, it does not care whether or not you learn. From the cafeteria workers to the professors, overall this school is awful. I wish I could give it a -5 because this school stinks. read more
