Without this sign I would never know there was a dog park in this area. This location is a bit strange. This is located behind a school. Well, the school is no longer active. St. Brigid St. Augustine Partnership School has been closed for almost five years. The rear of the former school has a nice sized dog park. It is fenced with the rules posted on the outside of the fence. The rules are pretty standard. My pup and I were the only ones here. The park is divided into two parks, one is for little dogs, which is where we were and the other is for larger dogs. Jude had such a fun time running around, and of course sniffing every single corner. There are a lot of wood chips all over the park, which undeniably ended up all over Jude's hair, and eventually all over my car. There was a bench which I sat at, and he came under, once he was ready for some shade. The West Hartford Dog Park is a nice park to let your dog run around and play.

There's not much to it, but if you need to exercise your high energy / young pup and you don't want to drive all the way to Canton, Glastonbury, Wethersfield or Rocky Hill (dog parks where we typically go), bring a chuck it, a bowl, and water and you should be able to tire him/her out at this park. Lots of wood chips cover the surface of the dirt, there are poop bags in a dispenser after you come into the entrance, and loads of old tennis balls can be found lying around the ground. I just wish there was another large garbage bin inside the fenced in area of the park instead of just one right outside the entrance. I went for a second time today with Momo and both times I met the loveliest people with friendly dogs. There's also a separate fenced area for smaller dogs. We'll be coming here more often since it's so convenient and easy to access.

There were plenty of benches and seats for the pet parents to spread out. This day it was German Shepard day...there were about 8 of them including a gorgeous pair of white Swedish Shepard's. Being only the second time for Magic and myself in any dog park, we were both a little nervous. When the other dogs came to investigate, she stayed under my legs or under the picnic table I sat at while the other dogs lapped and played. It was a bit muddy in some areas as it had rained continually for a few days before. They have added wood chips that has helped according to other dog parents. After about half half an hour, Magic became bold and went to investigate other pet parents first, then began to play with the other dogs. There was a massive pit bull who was playing like a giant puppy with Magic and a couple other much smaller dogs. All in all I was VERY impressed with the dogs and their parents...some who brought water for ALL the dogs to share as the water is still off. There were also plenty of toys, balls and sticks for sharing. I'll definitively bring Magic back.

Beautiful open grounds with two fenced play areas; small dogs 25 pounds or less and large dogs over 25 pounds. Each with seating, picnic table, shade trees, and ample space to chase a ball or another tail. Our 26 pound pup blended in very well with the other dogs all ready there, which consisted of a large variety of other well behaved canine. We stayed for about an hour plus and socialized with the dogs and their human counterparts. Nice time and great place for your Fido(s) - 3 max per owner. Our only concern, the Park does not have a water station for the dogs, community bowls were present and guests provided water to be shared. Next time we'll bring a gallon or two to share as well.

Hoping this will let the folks know! It is situated sort of right behind Yale Divinity School but on St Ronan Street. Ample space. It's summer and it's been hot and dry so a bit dusty at the moment though there are grassy areas. Has benches for humans to sit on. I would bring some water if possible to fill up the bowls for your dog, I do not believe there is a water source on site. Seems like the type of place people stop by to let their dogs run while they are walking their dogs, which I love. Pop in for a little bit and let the dog run, then continue on your walk! My dog has only met lovely fun dogs there so far. Great location- I'll be going here a lot during my time in New Haven.

Learned that it was funded by the nearby Corsair apartments and that it just opened within the last month. I wish I had known about the grand opening they had earlier this week. This park is slightly closer to my house than the Union Street dog park (where I usually go), is clean and a perfect size (spacious for the dogs but small enough to keep an eye on them) with 2 benches, lots of trees/shade and shrubbery, as well as a dog and human water fountain. There was also a dispenser fully stocked with poop bags. The park is made of small pebbles and there is a small dog area adjacent to the main park. I've seen the name referred to as Mechanic Street Dog Park and East Rock Dog Park, but a flier posted also stated they were looking for suggestions for a name, so time will tell. This will be me and my dogs' new spot in town!

I take my toddler to the playground here fairly often. The whole playground is fenced in. It has 2…read moremain playscapes, one for toddlers and preschoolers and another for older kids. My toddler loves the smaller playscape. There are a few slides and plenty of different ladders and stairs to climb. BEWARE- after a good rain the area around this climber is a giant puddle. There's a slide that goes right into the middle of it. We avoid this park after a rainstorm for this reason. The larger playscape seems pretty fun. My toddler still climbs on it when it's not too crowded. It has a lot of ramps and some fun slides. I climb with him or stay close by because there are some openings to climbing structures he cannot navigate that are pretty high up. There are also swings (including baby swings), covered picnic tables, a sand/ digging area, and some outdoor musical instruments inside the fence.

We went with our 2yr old to check out the play area. It is very well done and arranged. It is ADA compatible which in addition to being accepting to everyone makes being a parent easier, ease of access to high areas. My daughter loved the slide that was essentially a string of rolling pins. The only slide of its design I've come across. There are plenty of swings and there is a nice covered area with picnic tables. It is completely enclosed and gated, so it takes a bit for the little ones to get away! Always a plus. In the play area there is a sand box with some shovels, the sand is pretty well used at this point and isn't all that soft but it's useable. There is also a really fun little pipe instrument setup with the gates. If you venture across the street there is some hiking trails in the woods, nothing overly long or daunting but it was nice for a stroll in the woods with the baby and the the dog.
