We came on a Friday evening and it was pretty busy, but we only waited about 15 minutes for a table on the patio. We got the smelts and fish and chips. Both were delicious. I tried the catch of the day (cod) and also my partner's halibut. The halibut and chips was definitely yummier than the cod!

I was pleasantly surprised by this little restaurant!! Initially, I was a little bit apprehensive as I had read that there was a fish smell coming from the market, but I can assure you there was no fish smell inside the restaurant. The restaurant itself had a really quaint but proper ambiance. The service was attentive and friendly. We ordered the PEI mussels (sooo good, I could drink the sauce) and shrimp linguine alfredo, which was the special of the day. The alfredo was more of a rosé sauce, but sooo creamy and delicious! Portion sizes were generous and definitely worth the value.

stopped by here on a recommendation from a friend to try "Tony's Soup" - it's a seafood mix with 4 or 5 different types of fish, shrimp, clams....you name it, it's in there. Great broth with some nice flavors. We ordered two large....basically a full bowl - very filling, each came with a nice homemade roll. It was $28 for the two dishes......so that's alittle ouch for soup. I would say it's a 4 star on quality, but gave it 3 stars because of the price.

Verdict: Service was great, but the food was significantly overpriced. Tonight we wanted seafood so we headed here. We had a good cross section of food to try a few things, and the best way I can describe most of it was "meh". The shrimp caesar salad was bland and appears to have had shrimp that was purchased at a a grocery store dropped on top, while the clam chowder was incredibly salty. The live lobster was ok, but it is quite difficult to screw up steamed lobster. The worst part of all of this was that without purchasing any wobbly pops, the bill was still over $100!!! Not a terrible experience, but simply not worth the price.

I love this place. It's my family's favorite place for fresh fish and chips. I always get the scallops breaded or grilled (I like it both ways) with vegetables. Give this place a try when you are in the neighbourhood.

Don't expect a fancy setting but do expect great service and amazing seafood. The is our go-to spot for seafood in Ottawa. Great grilled fresh fish. The best chowder around and we never skip the crab cakes-just perfect with the mango salsa Just a bit of the East Coast right here in Ottawa

Review Highlights - Merivale Fish Market

Being from Nova Scotia I can only eat fresh fish and the fish at this fish market is the freshest I've found in Ottawa.

For everyone that is sensitive or isn't used to the fresh fish smell, you might want to consider waiting outside if you're accompanying someone, or you can always just decide to grin and bear it. Personally, the smell doesn't bother me. Since there is so much ice to keep the seafood fresh, the floors are often wet, so watch your step! I came here to buy sushi-grade salmon because I had such a craving for sashimi and I didn't feel like going to a restaurant. The prices aren't too bad, and I found it to be a fairly good deal for my salmon at the time. The fish was fresh and was of good quality, and it really hit the spot!

It's also across the street from another plaza that has a Food Basics and a Shoppers Drug Mart, so if I'm really keen, I can do a massive errand run. Anyway, this location is just ok, imo. There's nothing too remarkable about it. Their discount/clearance section is really tucked away though, by the washrooms. I don't know why they put it there, because I'm sure most shoppers miss it. It's never been all that busy any time that I've been. Like even during the Covid-19 Pandemic when other Loblaws had huge lineups to get in, this one had less congestion. Staff tend to be a bit less friendly than at other nearby locations, at least that has been my observation. Lots of free parking.

I frequently leave without everything on my list.
