Two pieces fish and chips $13.50
    Jennifer P.

Wow, the best fish and chips I've had in a long time! The batter was so crispy, and the fish so tender, moist and flakey! And it wasn't super greasy. I loved it. So my husband and I were going to be in Bells Corners running some errands, so I suggested we grab some lunch at Ad Mare. Ad Mare is a food truck that I heard great things about. Once upon a time it was parked in Downtown Ottawa, but since the Covid-19 Pandemic started, it's now parked at the Kichesippi Brewery. There are picnic tables outside, and I believe you can bring their food into the brewery to eat inside if you are drinking at the brewery. We opted to eat in our car (which, for the record, I did long before the Pandemic. Come to think of it, eating in my car, washing my hands ALL THE TIME, not liking it when strangers get too close to me, I was like that before the Pandemic. I never wore a mask though, but truth be told, I see a lot of advantages to mask-wearing, apart from the prevention of respiratory infections, like it shields more of my face from UV radiation #youthfulskinforever, and makes me less recognizable #lovebeingincognito, lol. I am totally digressing here, apologies). Ok, back to the food. I love that it was in a cardboard container (I hate styrofoam) lined with waxed paper. The fries were good chip wagon fries. The coleslaw was oil and vinegar based, which I much prefer over the mayonnaise based ones. It had a significant amount of pepper in it, which I liked, but it made it spicer than I anticipated. We got the 2 piece platter ($13.50) to share and it was more than enough food. The pieces of fish were a good size and like I said at the start of the review, they were delicious. We got tartar sauce and ketchup (not enough ketchup for my liking, but I'm a ketchup fiend with my fries, haha). I waited in the car while my husband bought the food, so can't comment on customer service, but the wait wasn't too long. There's free parking in the brewery parking lot, but not too much of it. We had no problems finding a spot on our rainy autumn visit, but I can imagine on a nice summer day, there may be parking struggles.

How do you define perfection? I would like to think that perfection is the definition of something you experience that has no detectable fault. In that sense, the fish and chips from Ad Mare is perfect, without fault. The fries are the perfect combination of crispy, fluffy, chewy, and seasoning. The fish has a crispy snap when you either take a bite, or break of a piece to dip in the scratch- made tartar sauce. You might think that one piece isn't enough......but with great food like this, less is more. And, the more times you come back to sample other items from the menu, the more evident this becomes. Now, if only beef bacon could be used in the chowder........

Took advantage of a rainy day to visit Ad Mare - and the tactic worked! They weren't sold out. Yay for me! Had the whole family, so got to try everything - Fish Tacos, Seafood Sliders and Fish and Chips. Everything tasted great and fresh. Coleslaw was great. The 'chips' are really mixed veggie crisps (potato chips, fried fresh) and were a great accompaniment to everything. My fussy eater (The Daughter) wolfed down a lot more of the fish and chips than I would have predicted - so you know it was enjoyable. Our one minor comment (not even a complaint) was the crisps could possibly be salted a little lighter. Had a nice chat with the greeter (owner? not sure!). He made a point of letting us know what other food trucks are around, and what he had tried and loved. (Way to promote the other trucks! Love it.) Their normal location is quite convenient, as there is lots of overhang for when it's raining - and some convenient decorative concrete thingies (technical term) to sit on. Would I return: Yes Would I recommend: Yes

Fish taco platter with potato, sweet potato and beet chips.

Knowing that Salsa @ City Hall brings tasty food trucks to my wife's neighbourhood, we were looking into their events and saw that Aug 31st was the last night of the season and that we were in luck because that meant a wider selection of food. After perusing the mobile vendor offerings, I settled on Ad Mare and their fish taco platter, which comes with two tacos, potato, sweet potato and beet chips, and coleslaw. I soon had my container in hand, and after getting some dessert at another vendor, my wife and I grabbed a picnic table to chow down at while we took in the Latin vibes.  Between the mixed chips, coleslaw and tacos themselves, it was a colourful plate, er, takeout container. The chips were thin and crisp, and the slaw was crunchy and tangy from its vinegar-based dressing. The main event, the fish tacos, were quite good. I typically prefer a battered fish for the textural contrast (and battered anything is always better), but these grilled hunks of fish were flavourful and not overcooked. Guac, a spicy sour cream and the usual taco fixins rounded out the fillings. The tortillas had a mild corn flavour, although their slight sponginess and lack of falling apart leads me to believe that wheat flour is thrown in for stability.  Ad Mare is doing seafood right, and adding some mobile food diversity to a city awash in generic chip wagons.

Somehow having lived in Ottawa for forever, I hadn't gotten out to try this food truck (even though I've passed it at lunch while working downtown...the line was always insane)! It was parked at union street today so I had no excuse, and walked the 5 minutes there. I tried the fish taco with side of their chips and coleslaw for $10. The taco itself was delicious; the fish was very fresh, and the garnishes balanced the fried fish with bright flavours. The coleslaw was on the dry side; I wish it had more mayo/sauce, but that is personal preference. The assorted veggie chips were deliciously addictive, although half were crispy and half were somewhat softer... Overall, a really fresh meal, but I wish portions were bigger! However...my favourite is and will always remain Cabano Kitchen for their HUGE, FRESH, tacos!!! I NEED to go back ASAP to get my taco fix! No one can beat them for their gigantic $5 tacos!

Blue crab grilled cheese with 1/2 chips 1/2 salad

It's been awhile! Since I've last been here they implemented an online order form (probably 2 years ago) where you specify a pick up time to avoid lunch time wait. Highly recommend doing this because today I got the last crab grilled cheese #wins The owner said 1/2 of their orders were taken up by preorders. It makes total business sense since it increases efficiency and less wait time, but isn't part of the experience of a food truck going to see what's new and ordering on the spot? I hope they limit the number of online orders to keep some for lunch goers who are walking by ... Otherwise it'd just be a lunch time delivery truck

Lobster roll with chips and coleslaw.

Yum! Ad Mare is great addition to the downtown lunch scene! I had the lobster roll ($13) and it was excellent. A generous portion of lobster meat and really good sweet potato chips and coleslaw on the side. The other option the day I went was fish and chips and I think it was $10. The truck is at the corner of Slater and O'Connor.

Ad Mare was listed in Ottawa tourism as a food truck to try and when in Ottawa, I do as the Ottawans do. It's a pretty truck, colorful and bright, dishing out colorful and tasty food. I had the shrimp tacos and the server suggested I try the fried beet chips and mixed greens combo to sample. The food was definitely tasty, with the right blend of textures, chew and crunch and spices. But alas, at $12 for lunch, two medium tacos, with 3 small shrimp each did not fill me up. I'd recommend Ad Mare to others, but not sure I'd pay $12 for a lunch that left me a little hungry. especially after hours of hoofing the tourist beat. Service was friendly and helpful. I feel for my Canadian neighbors in Ottawa, where food in general seem pricier and portions of food seem smaller!

Who's got good food at a food truck? Ad Mare that's who-wow what a lunch! Let me start by saying all food trucks need to take note: Ad Mare displays it's fresh produce outside it's truck-fresh yams, fresh beets-everything was fresh and you could tell-home made coleslaw, homemade tartar sauce with capers! To die for-the fish was light and crispy and the fresh vegetable chips worthy of the tartar sauce that I ate even when all my food was gone. See you next week Ad Mare-I will be counting the sleeps!

I went here for lunch today, had the shrimp roll made with fresh matane shrimp. It comes with chips or salad or they let you do a bit of both. Which is what I chose. Salad comes witha little balsamic vinaigrette. Shrimp roll was great very fresh tasting on a toasted poppyseed roll. Will be back.

Tried Ad Mare recently, the fish taco was delicious and I definitely intend to go back to try more of their food. The changing menu is fun and the location is really nice too. Only downside is how limited their hours are.

Server was quite brusque but crab sliders were good. Picnic tables had umbrellas to get out of the sun.

My husband and I had tacos at Walking Tacos recently, and overall they were ok, but nothing to…read morewrite home about, IMO. Walking Tacos is a food truck that is parked outside of Kichesippi Brewery most of the time (Ad Mare is the other food truck there at this time). I got 2 ground chicken soft tacos with rice ($12) and my husband got 2 ground beef soft tacos ($9). Prices were inclusive of tax. My tacos were ok. They were filled with a good amount of ground chicken, and also had lettuce, salsa, lots of cheese and sour cream. They tasted fine, but I found them to be nothing special. I can make similar tacos at home. I found the rice too mushy, clumpy and bland. It was definitely not worth the extra $3, and I can definitely make better rice at home. Service was friendly and I liked that the food containers were cardboard and not plastic or styrofoam. Free parking in the Kichesippi Brewery parking lot. We took our food to go, but you can also eat it on the patio of the brewery if you buy beer from them.

Okay, so my dad convinced me to try this food truck. He lives in Bells Corners, and anything new…read more that comes to the area he raves about and tries to support. This food truck is right next to the Kichesippi Brewery. When they are not in Bells Corners, you can find them at the Kiwan Farm Stand on Hunt Club (schedule posted on their website) Their primary spot is in Bells Corners. The hubby ordered the beef tacos, and a side of rice. It was the special of the day, although, he never got the rice. I got veggie tacos. The filling was just black beans and veggies. We also ordered a french fry for the kid. The fries are air fried. They were kinda bland, and tasted like the old school McCain fries you would get back in the day. Skip the fries. Tacos were 9 bucks for two. They are relatively small, maybe 3-4 bites per taco. They were OK, but nothing to write home about. I think this food truck is known for their tacos in a bag, where they load a Doritos bag full of taco yumm-ness. They also do poutine tacos. Yes, cheese curds and gravy in a taco! Cool addition to Bells Corners for the locals, or if you are having a beer at the brewery and need a bite to eat. It's not somewhere that I would immediately run back to though with so many other options in the city.
