The interior was so beautiful and scary, but in a classy way. There were unique book editions and artwork everywhere. I took home an Ozzy Osbourne post card that fit perfectly on my refrigerator. I actually didn't realize that they are also a tattoo studio - that would have been cool to check out, but I was so distracted and intrigued with the front of the store that I never even noticed. He is a true artist - take one look at his instagram (@abixbytattoo) and #saynomorefam. He can do all kinds of styles, but his specialty & most amazing work is old school traditional. That said, I have an elephant head mandala that's about 6"x6" on the front of my thigh and it's AMAZING. Love it every time I look down! Give him a few ideas and he'll draw up something spectacular (or more than one version of something) and help you choose the best fit for you. Oh, and he's a super nice guy with a super nice wife (hi, Jess!) -- so that's a plus. What else matters... - Cost: *CASH ONLY* and completely reasonable. But these are good tattoos! Don't expect to pay $60 for a quality tattoo. Go somewhere and pay $60 and then come to Sacred Harp and pay what it's actually worth to cover it up... just sayin'! - Cleanliness: 100%. The shop is clean, the individual work areas are VERY clean, everything is sterilized and in sealed packages, tables are covered with hospital-style paper. I've never even thought about cleanliness here, and that's exactly what you want. - Service: Above & beyond. You get great "tattoo service" - from the initial consultation to the final product, but you also get a great overall experience when you're there. Everyone is friendly, so you're not just sitting there sticking out like a sore thumb while a bunch of old friends talk around you (which I have experienced elsewhere). I mean.. you can sit there by yourself if you WANT, but if you have a little bit of a wait everyone who works here is a hoot. Say hi! - Follow-Up: You can buy anything you need for after-care here, and your artist will give you instructions and suggestions. If you need anything touched up, they're pretty awesome about it (FYI: I've never needed anything touched up, and I'm in the sun literally all summer). The owner said he would honor work done and then argues he hasn't confirmed the work was done after weeks waiting for a response and then tries to say it looks like an old tattoo without even inviting me in to take a look. As you can see from the photo the point spread on the only beveling work done on my body, which he knows was a cover up of an old tattoo. 2. The original artist that drew the beveling took it upon himself to start going over my large back tattoo without my permission and leaving me with fresh ink on a small part of an old tattoo that none of the points spread, as you can see from the photo, and tattoo something different than what he drew. 3. No apology from the artist and no refund from the owner for unauthorized work. If you want to hear an artist complain about his x and his weight then this is the place to go. Not to be trusted.

There are two decisions that I've made this year that were the absolute BEST choices of all times!…read more The first - to get my eyeliner tattooed on. Last summer I moved from Southeast Massachusetts to Washington, DC and was invited to return again this summer. My first thought was, "I am not going to survive another 100plus degree heat and my beautiful black eyeliner running constantly!!" I sport a punky 80's look, and my eyeliner is a crucial component to my person. What I also did not know, was that I would be embarking on a particularly emotional and mind-blowing time of encountering past and present losers, family drama, etc. which would result in much crying and flushing out the eyes (and now that's ALL done). And through it ALL - my eyes and makeup continue to look PERFECT!!! Lemme tell you, that certainly gave me alot of street cred when everyone else looked a mess : ) The second BEST decision I made - was to go to Nikki Leitao for my eyeliner tattoo!!! I found Nikki when I began researching the field, and was looking through a professional licensure/organization website for cosmetic tattooing. After looking through her VERY detailed website, I also discovered that she is responsible for making it possible to perform this service in Salem, Massachusetts. I figured if she helped to write and push this licensing legislature through, then she was the absolute best - and I was not disappointed. The price was right (I had saved and budgeted) and I got a little discount for being a first time customer. Don't be fooled by the tattoo shop where Nikki works - she has her own room in the back - with privacy and relaxing music. I appreciated how much time Nikki took with me to make certain that every detail was discussed and confirmed by me. She is an outstanding makeup artist (look at her webpage) and I trusted her completely. Nikki was also REALLY patient with me....I talk alot....I ask alot of questions....I need to externally process everything going on...this woman was AMAZING with me. After the 4plus hour appointment (yes, she works HARD) I was armed with my takehome kit and directions to make a 6 week "touch up" appointment. This is when Nikki looks to see if there are any spots that have faded, etc. Unfortunately, circumstances caused me to have to move to DC sooner than I thought - so I won't be able to make my appointment until I return in August...but my eyes STILL look amazing. I am sick with allergies and the flu, so I'll post a photo when I look more human. The first two days after the procedure, I wore my glasses and no contact lenses...and remained mostly indoors. I used the healing ointment in my take-home kit sparingly...and I used the mini freezer pods to sooth the swelling. I've got tattoos and so was ready for the pain...but it really just felt like I had conjunctivitis...and I couldn't pick the crust away. The result? I look gorgeous. Thank you, thank you Nikki! Now I'm going to save up to have her outline my lips a little and balance out the color. Oh yes, and this saves me SO much time and money!!
