Lovely park with lots to do! We were visiting the in-laws in Welland and was told that a brand new…read moresplash pad opened in June, so we took our toddlers there on a hot Saturday morning and the kids had a blast! The water wasn't super cold and was a perfect way to stay cool in the 30+ temps. There was a variety of spouts that little hands can spin/rotate and another area that has mushroom-like structures where the water comes down from above, in addition to the sprays that come from the ground. The water structures were spaced apart and the splash pad was spacious enough to avoid the kids from running into each other. There's also restrooms in a community center close by. In addition to the newly installed splash pad, the park has a large pond where ducks hang out (see pic), with a couple of "houses" installed in the center of the pond for the ducks to chill out on. There's several beach volleyball courts, a toddler playground that needs updating (it has a small climbing thing with small slides and a few swings), a newer playground that was a bit further off from the splash pad (we didn't play there but it looks fun and new), open grasslands, picnic tables that are covered (you'll probably need to book these through the the city). If you're in Welland and have kids, this is a great park to take the kids to! I hear that the duck pond freezes over and turns into a skating rink in the winter.

Lots of parking areas. The only disappointment to this great park was the lack of respect the people have, by leaving trash any and everywhere. It doesn't take even a minute to hold on to your trash till you come across a trash bin. Easy as pie! At one shelter occupied by a huge group of people, there was trash everywhere! People don't need to be told, they just need to think of collecting trash till a suitable time and place is possible to dispose PROPERLY of the trash! Unfortunately, there are more people who trash parks and Nature, than are those who respect our parks and Nature by NOT trashing the environment. On the bright side, this IS indeed a great place to spend a few minutes or even longer!

A lot of work had been done just recently, as we saw Tree trunks and pieces moved from one spot to another to clear the trails. We got out to the baseball field then continued walking the trail. Outside the trails through the woods were a LOT of Flickers [woodpecker]. We've never been to any area where we saw so many flickers before on the Trees or ground. At one time there were seven of them on the ground! Be very careful because while we were deep within the woods, apparently I was bit by a wasp. Heard NO sign of wasps and we did NOT venture off the trail, but at one time within the first 20mins within the park, I was bit by something within my pants. Later at home I could see what was later identified as a wasp sting. I heard NO buzzing or anything, but apparently it got into my pant leg as I could feel something inside my trousers. Otherwise WE enjoyed being out in the Nature that is western New York and Pine Woods Park! I WAS disgusted to see that the woods trail and most of the open areas were littered with human filth and trash. Please everyone, YOU are part of the solution AND/or problem!! Please teach your kids to NOT litter! I put my trash while in the outdoors into my right back pocket, and when home or where there's an outdoor trash bin, it gets transferred to that. Also, kids learn from who they are with, or via their home environment, so if everyone around them trashes our parks, streets etc, then they will too. They learn from experiences. Please pick UP your trash or better yet, DO NOT LITTER OUR PARKS! I saw a lot of people walking their pets. I have seen a lot of pet owners at other western New York parks litter disgustingly with their pet poop. Either they leave the poop so YOU can step in it, or they pick it up, then when nobody is around, they throw it in bushes or leave their bag of pet poop in plain sight. IF you are a pet owner and do this, you are a disgusting person who should be fined, jailed and do community service picking up cigarette butts and dog poop off the streets! YOU should have your pet taken away and given to a true animal lover who will respect others, parks and other natural areas, and their pet, and NOT leave their poop out!

It's a small…read morecozy neighborhood park with a somewhat outdated playground under repair, but lots and lots of swings. Plenty of shade. There's a small nature trail. All the restrooms were mysteriously locked even though it's still summer, but there's a couple of port-a-potties. I wouldn't make a special trip, but it's a solid neighborhood park aside from the closed restrooms.

It was a great day to sit in our lawn chairs and look towards the sky. A giant octopus, some kites with really long tails, a parrot, a unicorn. Lots of colors and shapes. There was a tent for kids to make their own kites and a candy give-a-way, also for the kids. Surprised that I saw no food trucks, but they might have been at the other end of the field.

The road within the park could use a lot more than temporary tar and a shovel of stuff that does NOT stay long before the potholes return. They should do it correctly and right, when they consider the crowds that frolic and play here. There isn't even true permanent bathroom facilities here till last year sometime, when temporary facilities were installed. A lot of investment and work is needed here before the park sinks into the sunset. Park is closed after sunset so don't even think of coming here to enjoy the Milky Way or meteor showers, etc. Police will come chase you off.

LA-Sale Park is out in California, and it's basically like a yard sale for movie stars and wannabe…read moreactors. So you can pick up all kinds of crazy things that you wouldn't find at a regular Yard Sale elsewhere in the country. Here in Buffalo, though, we have a beautiful waterfront park along the Niagara River, with grilling and soccer and a dog park and lots of gorgeous views and sunsets. If you squint, you can see the Maple Syrup across the water glinting in the Canadian sunlight. I play soccer here... but not too often because it is the worst field I've ever played on. However other than soccer, I come here because it's one of my fave spots anywhere in the city. You can see the towering shapes of Statler and City Hall across the thundering 190 highway and train track at one end of the park. You have the Barkyard and all kinds of interesting buildings at the other end. And then you have the beautiful waterfront and the pathway along it. Not always the cleanest, not always the safest area at night, but during the day, in the summer, it's stunning. I was here just 3 weeks ago for a soccer game actually. I'm not supposed to be playing, but my goodness, what fantastic views from here on a blue sky day. It's one of the best natural settings for a park in Buffalo. The park isn't always the cleanest, the soccer field is the worst in the region (possibly the country), and the driveways are full of enormous treacherous potholes, but just because of the location and the beautiful views, I have to give it a 5.

Today the temps were warm in the mid to high 20s, and the windchill was 10 degrees less - it doesn't bother us! This time when we arrived, we saw a band of teens playing hockey on the ice! They were doing quite well too! Quite a few people were hiking in and out, and there were several cars in the lots. Did not see anyone at the new children's playground. We'll be back!

Quiet and secluded trails leading to picturesque hidden ponds. Wide enough for two skiing side by side in some spots. Meandering trails keep you out of the wind that can be bitter cold out in the open areas (like where frisbee golf is). Many birds flying through the trees, robins, blue jays and hawks too. Plenty of parking and nicely plowed. Fun!

Beautiful early morning walk…read more It's at the base of the bridge connecting Grand Island to Niagara Falls. The route is on the Grand Island side. The walk is lovely and along the water most of the way. Well groomed, although they recent storms have resulted in some downed trees/branches blocking the path a little. All easily navigable. Very easy parking. 2/20
