Before I begin this review, both my husband and I are military. He is a combat service member and has stayed in less than stellar accommodations. My husband booked this stay as an anniversary get-away. We knew it was going to be rustic. We didn't prepare ourselves for it being unsafe. We stayed in cabin 15. I cannot speak of the cleanliness or safety of the other cabins. Please, before booking cabin 15 at Mesa Lodge, be aware that the steps are unsafe. As noted in the pictures, they should be replaced immediately. I spoke to the co-owner and she said, "They have been that way for years." When the rain started, my husband did not want me using the stairs. He was fearful of me falling. Well, he FELL twice. We went to the main lodge to be moved but they were closed. At this point, we returned the key and headed to Grand Junction. The following morning my husband called to request our money be refunded. The co-owner did call us back and said she would discuss it with her husband. We have heard nothing. Positives of Mesa Lake Lodge: The area is phenomenal. The drive is break taking. The beauty and tranquility of the trees and water make it a gem of a location. We ate in the lodge. The meal was very good. We both loved the French fries. The hostess was nice. They did offer a military discount. As of July 2024: The Mesa Lakes Lodge has been in contact with my husband. They issued a refund. Thank you so much! We appreciate it. read more

Came by for dinner during Color Weekend (leaf peepers delight!). No frills, low-key lodge with American fare. Staff is SO NICE- you can tell they know the locals like family here. I got a BLT, my husband got wings and a beer. Be sure to walk outside after your meal- several lakes and aspen groves nearby. I'm sure this spot is stunning anytime of year. read more

Mesa Lakes Lodge misrepresents their facilities online. The location is very pretty, but the cabins are in terrible condition. Broken steps, bare lightbulbs, torn furniture. No onsite management. The photos on the website must have been photoshopped. No pillow sofas, no oriental carpets. Dirty carpets and a musty smell. To their credit, the mattress and bedding were new and comfortable, but I expected more for $289 a night. We left after one night of our three-night reservation. Too bad they didn't spend as much time on their operations as they did on their website. Don't be fooled. Check out Grand Mesa Lodge or Alexander Lake Lodge instead. The restaurant is a completely different operation and worth a visit. read more

Yikes. It's overpriced cafeteria-style food. Nothing special, especially when paired with employees that don't even attempt to hide how inconvenienced they are by customers. Y'all have got to get a hold of some basic hospitality standards. While they offer table service, one of us had to get up 3 separate times: for napkins, for silverware, and finally for a missing side of green chili (which by the time we got, the nachos it was for were ice cold). We had to hunt down our server to pay, too. There wasn't even a tinge of shame as she handed back the payment device with a "you can select a tip amount..." C'mon, you guys. Save your money. This place is far from the maddening crowd, and on first glance has a pretty standard menu. Prepare, my fellow diner, to have your taste buds tickled. Whether you're driving through the Mesa or staying at one of the camp sites or cabins, Beaver Lake Restaurant is worthy of a break from hiking, driving or fishing. Pizzas served on weekends in season are particularly scrumptious Read Sam K's review if you don't believe me. We had a taco pizza, and I have to admit I was a little skeptical about enchilada sauce on a pizza, but not only did it work, it era pura magia. We also checked out Sunday brunch twist on corn beef and an enormous and gooey cinnamon roll. And if the food isn't enough for you, stay for a weekend night bonfire, musical entertainment and friendly conversation. Don't be surprised if you hear a fish story or two. read more

Their BLT with extra bacon was pretty good. My wife enjoyed the green chili. It was a great lunch after enjoying some snowshoeing.

We stopped in last week looking for a fishing license since they advertise a tackle and bait shop. From the outside, there were many people milling around without masks on. We donned ours and went inside. At the bar were three young women, all servers, without masks and a poor attitude. They ignored us at first and then reluctantly asked what we wanted. We asked if they sell fishing licenses and received an attitude and a reluctance to help. We could see folks on the outside patio, not sitting six feet apart, but maybe two to three at the most. The lack of PPE, the lack of good manners and respect and the lack of social distancing was enough for us. We left there quickly and went to Grand Mesa Lodge, down the street. There we found a sign on the door mandating masks. We found our fishing licenses and a staff that was helpful and mindful that we are living in a pandemic. I would avoid Mesa Lakes at all cost, unless you want to be ignored and infected. read more

Food - I had a beef and elk burger (on different days). Nothing special about either of them. I was hoping they'd be a bit bigger. Unfortunately they do not come seasoned so you'll want to add some kind of sauce or toppings, which are extra (including cheese). If you're really hungry, this is one of the few places on the mesa you can get food, but I'd look elsewhere. Lodging - my dad and I stayed in one of the bungalows. They're pretty basic: 2 chairs, table, normal bed and bunk bed. Hopefully you're not spending most of your time inside when you're in Colorado, but the inside is kind of dark and the windows aren't screened. In the summer, that means you can't open the windows or door to cool the cabin in the afternoon or at night because you'll get bugs. Bathrooms/showers are in a separate building. The showers could be much better. One is its own small stall, the other is in a stall with a toilet. Neither has real space for you to put your towel, clothes, etc. That said, it's likely your cheapest non-tent option on the mesa. It gets the job done. read more

Hungry motorcyclists came upon this dirt driveway with gusto. Had no idea what to expect and were pleasantly surprised with accommodating service (Thank You Caitlyn) and yummy bison burgers. Elk burger was tested, but not too our liking, but the bison was right on the mark. The grounds were landscaped, along with a lovely pond. Great place to rest and contemplate your surroundings; for indeed this is a beautiful part of the country. read more

Well my experience working here started out to be awesome but by the 3rd or 4th day I was run ragged trying to keep up with everything plus deep clean cabins that were definitely in need of TCL. Management always finding fault with me. The more I tried to please seemed the worse it became. I LOVED MY JOB.HAD A LOT OF COMPLIMENTS OF HOW MUCH CLEANER CABINS WERE. I WAS TIPPED VERY NICELY. I ALWAYS MADE IT A POINT TO TRY AND TALK TO GUESTS. I was invited to dinner and told I was very hard working. It seemed no body had a problem with me except my boss. I STARTED July 18 moved their and really had not much time off,which I was exhausted but still did my job to the best of my abilities. And even donated my own items to help make cabins cozy for guests. My boss seemed to always have an issue with me and rarely complimented me...and one day even poked fun at me in front of co-workers and guests. I HELD MY TONGUE BECAUSE I LIKED THE JOB AND THE BEAUTY AROUND AS I WORKED. ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND THE 2ND I Was fired for having a bad attitude. I was in a great mood my day had gone perfect until Management jumped me about an issue he said he been having. Well I did give guests a key a couple hrs early as I had thought they had checked in thru lodge. A simple mistake. HE SAID THAT HE WAS TIRED OF THIS HAPPENING AND I merely tried to state the part about me not running register and that I wasn't to blame for the guests not being charged early check in fee All these times he was claiming it to happen. I WASN'T ANGRY. Just trying to defend myself. I was asked to go outside like a child and was not allowed to even finish telling what had happened this day prior with the guests and why I had given them the key. I WAS FIRED ON LABOR DAY AND TOLD TO BE OUT IN A HALF HOUR FROM WHERE I PAID RENT. HE FIRED ME NOT BECAUSE I did bad work...he said he fired me because he did not like my attitude. Ok well...also took out so many lame charges and another full charge for rent. All unexpected! Well this has turned my whole life upside down. Homeless, jobless in the Blink of an eye me and my animals. NOT TO MENTION ME BEING COMPLETELY DEVISTATED. I EVEN BEGGED TO KEEP MY JOB. HE SMIRKED AND SAID NO YOU NEED TO GO. ALSO AFTER YOU GET HIRED THEN YOU FIND OUT YOU ARE INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS AND YOU LOSE A LOT OF YOUR RIGHTS AND ANY CLAIMS OF OVERTIME HOURS FOR ONE. SO I GIVE THIS COMPANY 1 STAR .ON BEING ANYTHING BUT GREAT TO WORK FOR. MANAGER NEEDS TO WORK ON HIS OWN ATTITUDE AND TREAT HIS WORKERS WITH MORE RESPECT. I AM STILL HOMELESS AND HAVE STRUGGLED VERY HARD SINCE HE DID THIS. Both Mentally and financial. And friends and family have also suffered because of one man's decision to fire a hard working employee over such B.S.. I will survive but that isn't the point. Also prices of this place are very high for the quality of food, and the cabins are in need of repairs. SO this is my attitude now ...FINALLY coming out. Sorry folks it's the Honest Truth. read more

Expect breathtaking vistas, exceptional fishing and beautiful, dense forests...all the things that make the Grand Mesa a place to visit and enjoy! Mesa Lakes Lodge is honestly a bit run down and poorly staffed. The Cabins and Bungalows are equivalent to a 2-star hotel. The bedding may or may not be clean, and window screens are missing or torn so no fresh air gets in. Our door did not lock, and no trash bags were provided for our trash can. We had lots of mouse droppings and a broken toilet in one of our cabins. BUT if you prefer a bed and a solid roof over a tent and a cot, you will like these accommodations, especially if you love to fish. Just roll out of bed and walk to one of the three lakes or hike up to a couple more. Mosquitoes were an annoyance, but the lack of professionalism amongst the hospitality staff was more frustrating than the bugs. read more

We were on an impromptu drive to enjoy the fall colors, and stopped for lunch here on a Friday at noonish. Signs all around about the State mask mandate, customers all wearing masks till seated. NONE of the staff!!! Nonetheless we stayed and ordered (tables were spaced apart). Fully 45 minutes later before we were served our mediocre food. Waitress was pleasant and fairly attentive, but no mask and SO many problems out of her control. Surely won't be back. read more

Absolutely AWESOME Experience!!! Myself along with 8 others stayed in the Sunset cabin. We enjoyed moonlight cross-country skiing with plenty if well groomed trails, live entertainment, excellent service, and the cabin was clean and cozy. In fact I'm making reservations for next month. Stopped here on a "boys trip" on the motorcycles. There was six of us in the group and we all enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed one more day. The owner, Andy, was very accommodating giving two from our group fly fishing lessons. Andy also took us on two amazing rides to areas we most likely would have missed. This lodge would be a great base camp for day trips on the bikes. Will be returning! read more

We rented the Sunset Cabin for four nights. Staff were friendly, but we had to ask for any service we needed, sometimes more than once. The cabin may sleep 12, but the seating in the main area was for only four. There was one bathroom with a shower stall with little water pressure or hot water. Beds were very uncomfortable. There were two small half size refrigerators which required cleaning before we could use them. There was a broken window repaired with duct tape up in the loft. One of the screens on the window was about an inch short on the window allowing easy access for mosquitoes and flys. All the kitchenware and furniture was a worn hodgepodge, looking like the owners had been shopping the local thrift store. There was a broom but no dustpan. The clock in the living room was perpetually stuck at 7. There was a bulb out on the light strip in the kitchen/living area. The covers on the ceiling light in the dining area had numerous dead bugs in it. The cutting board and two baking sheets were stored under the sink right next to numerous mouse traps. We asked for grills and were initially told to feel free to look around the other cabins for any and use what we like. They did eventually bring us four small rusted grills, only three of which had ill fitting grates. One had none at all. No one came by to pickup trash or restock and take away towels, although upon request they did do it once. It became apparent that we were expected to haul our own trash to a dumpster a distance away at the main lodge. We blew a circuit when we had the coffee maker, a griddle and the toaster were all being used at the same time. We called for assistance and it took them two hours to come and flip the breaker. We had been told we would have wifi but when we asked for the password, we met with resistance but did finally get it. Half the outlets did not work. On the plus side, the location, scenery, and fishing was amazing. For all of this, we paid 300.00/night/half in advance, and non refundable . We will not be back. read more

Owner was very gracious to the six of us on our annual motorcycle boy's trip. Got us cabins, served us great meals, Played music on his own guitars, which he plays very well. Took us on two awesome rides. We saw country and side roads we would have never seen without his help. Any bikers out there would love a place like this to stay and ride from daily. Our first visit there was a reunion (on July 4th weekend) for my husband and his combat buddies.The owners and staff were absolutely awesome!!! They were so welcoming and accommodating to our needs. The area is spectacular; amazing views everywhere you look. Our cabins were comfortable and provided all the comforts of home. The food was amazing! we had breakfast and dinner; the owners prepared an Alaskan salmon dinner that was so delicious and well worth a drive from Oklahoma! Ate at the restaurant, 2 burgers took 40 minutes and looked like they had been on the grill that entire time. They were charcoaled on both sides, tough like jerky and had a ton of what tasted like garlic salt on them. Condiments and GOOD fries helped us choke most of the burgers down, as we were hungry, they were busy and we weren't willing to wait for a redo. Staff comp'ed us half so...oh, well. Has been a family tradition to come to Mesa Lakes Lodge for over 30 years (through many management changes). It appears that the new business model is to cater to the bar crowd (even at 11:00 am). Lodge was FREEZING as they reset after a late night wedding. Would have been understandable had the staff been the least bit interested in serving our family of 8. Waitress was terribly rude and we decided to leave after the drink order so don't know how the food would have been. Besides, according to the waitress "the cook is a bitch". The cook must be pretty bad if she's any comparison to the waitress who was definitely one. read more

Mesa Lakes Resort is a very special place on Grand Mesa. It is located at nearly 10K elevation in the middle of the Mesa Lakes Day Use area of the Grand Mesa National Forest. There are several lakes stocked with trout and containing other native species near the beautiful and updated GMNF campground (Jumbo) and miles of adjacent hiking trails. Fish and hike in the summer and Cross-country ski and snowshoe in the winter. The lodge and cabins are privately owned and there is a restaurant at the lodge, food 9-4 Wed thru Sun. The service and food are very good with a limited menu of soups sandwiches and burgers. Don't miss the cinnamon rolls - spectacular! Friendly and helpful staff. Nice place to accommodate a small wedding or other family event. read more

Great time listening to live music this past weekend at Mesa Lakes Lodge. We danced and had a great meal while enjoying the fall colors changing. The new menu is fantastic with more options than ever. We watched the sun go down over Sunset Lake and rode bikes under the bright full moon. This was one of our best trips up on the Grand Mesa.
