The food is horrible. Once they gave us dry, colorless meat, and I'm so glad I didn't eat that because I think I would've gotten food poisoning. Everyone is also very rude and the communication is horrible. They didn't have a cabinet or whatever for my hygiene bucket so I had to keep it in my room, and a tech woke me up and yelled at me for it. When I told her my room didn't have one, she didn't even go to check before telling me I did and I needed to get up and put it away. She was wrong, it wasn't there, so someone just told me to put it in my old roommates. When I woke up the next morning, it wasn't there. They moved it without telling me where it was or anything so I ended up using someone else's on accident. My mom dropped off pads and tampons but they never gave them to me. They didn't even tell me I got them. Everything she brought me was lost because they couldn't communicate properly. I was dissociating so strongly I couldn't feel my body and I was terrified. They always told me to tell someone when I needed help, so I did. They didn't help at all. One looked at me judgmentally and asked if I wanted a fidget toy. The second told me since I could feel her hand I would be fine and I needed to get over it. I was having an allergic reaction to the hand sanitizer. The nurse told me to see her in 2 hours instead of helping. Another nurse told me I wasn't having an allergic reaction and it was a panic attack. When I told a therapist about how my mom was abusive and manipulative, she told me it means she cares about me and she does that to her patients all the time. The only person who actually cared was the doctor. When I was having trouble sleeping, she prescribed me medicine because she thought I might've been too scared to ask. When I told her about my issues with undiagnosed dissociative identity disorder, she was very nice about it and asked me who was fronting every day. She even offered to help me get diagnosed. When I was dissociating, she didn't really know why it was happening or what to do, but she tried her best and I could tell she was worried. Bonus points for bathroom privacy. I usually don't get that in mental hospitals. read more

This was my FIRST Mental Health facility, and it was CRAP. This review is from the perspective of a patient. List: .They REFUSED to for me meds though I requested it in the morning hours, only supplying it to me at 9pm right before bedtime. Once, they gave me Trazodone, when I requested it at night. They gave it to me, while I was ASLEEP! That's how long it took. .Ms. Timmy YELLED AT ME. They forgot my name, switched my meal ticket with another girls. When I told them, they grabbed my try, I got a new one. They don't give me silverware, so when I went to the silverware station, Ms. Timmy SCREAMING "AUH AUH AUH" with her loudest voice. Causing me to start shaking, since yelling is my trigger. .When I was getting blood drawn, I looked out of the way. Since I'm scared of needles/blood. The staff made fun of me looking away, asking if I'm scared with a silly voice. .The lunch lady made fun of my name. She asked my name, I responded with 'Vanessa', she then looks up from the meal ticket, responding 'VaneSSA' repeatedly, causing all the girls and staff to laugh. I have a lisp so I generally can't say my s's and r's correctly. That hurt. .They never gave me a Texas Education Agent, which was on the Teen Bill of Rights. I am now more behind on school work. .When I asked for pads, they gave me one. Despite my heavy blood flow. .Therapy was NEVER one on one. The intern therapist had us tell her our traumas in front of each OTHER. I said I don't feel heard, she responded "okay let's move on", IMMEDIATELY AFTER. Which hurt my feelings. .I was suffering from a HEAVY cold, a they wouldn't give me medication/nasal spray till I saw the doctor, who I had to approach on my own terms as she was talking with staff ONLY, and would not come frequently. .PCAs' were always on their phone. read more

Mesa the past mid January to mid February was the worst experience in my life at a psych hospital next to the last time I was at It's sister hospital in the DFW area Carrolton Springs. They decided to treat my delusional psychosis as real and not just a figment of my imagination. In my delusion when I get really sick I think I am St.Michael the Arcangel, the Antichrist and the angel of Death. When I first went to group the counselor asked me,"And what do your angels say?" As if angels were my higher power and not God. So I guess they believed as I did my false interpretation of the Book of Revelation that the Antichrist was not fully human as the Catholic magisterium was not right and the Angel of Death was the quaked concept of being all three of these figures in Scripture. According to the magisterium the Antichrist is fully human and not an angel. But the whole staff and patients treated me as if I WAS the Antichrist even though I have no magical powers, no legion of followers as it is said in Revelation. If it said the Antichrist would be a lonely loser that is mentally ill, disabled and is good at about nothing, except drawing for which he is only mediocre. In general I was abused by virtually all the staff and a good share of the patients. And this hospital identifies as a Christian establishment. Obviously they did not live by Christ's proclamation to,"Love your enemies and pray for your pursecutors." I hardly think of myself as their enemy, just a mentally ill person. Do I will give them the lowest rating possible: one star. But actually they deserve a negative five stars for their treatment. read more

Very disappointed in the process, referred to by our LPC, took 17 year old habitual runaway custodial grandchild with numerous issues, to include, oppositional defiance, DMDD, ADHD, depression and addiction to vaping who had been off meds for 4days due to running away again was hoping to stabilize her in able for us to move forward with her private therapy - we didn't meet "criteria" and were offered PHP? Getting her there today was my last resort, took her kicking screaming and threatening. Had an I Pad Dr speak to her less than 5 Minutes and asked her a few questions she didn't answer truthfully, didn't even speak to me as her guardian. We were than basically told to have a nice day - got her home more angry than her arrival to Mesa. Once Home 40 Minutes later got cussed out and told to F off I'm leaving you can't do shit. Thanks Mesa your a life saver! I'm not her Mother but a desperate custodial grandparent trying to help a child on a course of self destruction. We were fully covered in network with AETNA speechless just speechless.....she's gone again window of opportunity slammed shut! read more

Second visit since February 2016. A lot has changed and unfortunately for the worst. The hospital is very expensive and the quality is so disappointing. Hospital Staff curses like constantly and it's not acceptable. Luckily I stayed only 3 days. I stayed in outpatient for 3 days in November. My old therapist Misty is no longer at this hospital and now my therapist was mediocre. I didn't recognize anyone. Super Stuffy rooms, thin walls, short lunches and i eat slow. My chair was hard ugh. I did not feel entirely safe because cell phone use is not prohibited and I didn't wanna be with another patient's camera. In fact Misty used to get onto us about it. Nuff said. read more

Granted, having to come here was one of the worst day of our lives. But I'm so grateful for the KIND, and CARING people that work here. From the receptionist (Gretchen, I believe?) to the therapists we worked with...all were kind and compassionate. This hospital saved my husband's life and while we weren't able to get all the medications just right....they were able to get him stable in a week. I hope we will never have to return ....it's such a scary move to make but we would not hesitate to come back if we needed to. Thank you to everyone we encountered for making this experience as positive as possible. read more

I have been to the point of near hospitalization about three times in my short life. I have only actually had to be inpatient once, and I'm incredibly glad that Mesa Springs was what my parents chose. Mrs. K, the tech in the sunrise unit is so incredibly kind, and she truly deserves an award. My only critique is that snacktime consists of only expired fruit and little hotel containers of peanut butter. It would be five stars if it weren't for the snack choices, seriously. read more
