I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews. I have been inpatient at Mesa Springs three times and participated in their outpatient programs twice as well. Inpatient at Mesa is nice. I always felt safe and looked after. The employees were nice and always willing to listen if you were having a hard time. The food is excellent and I always slept like a baby. The rooms are double, so you have one roommate and you share a bathroom with them. You are given a schedule every day that's full of therapy activities and recreation. If you're a smoker, don't fret. You have 7 smoke breaks throughout the day. Dr. Keller is a fantastic guy who really listens and works to get you back on your feet. The first time I did outpatient, I had a wonderful experience. I learned a lot and I liked my therapist so much, I continued to see her through her private practice after the program. The second time I was in outpatient (2022) less than thrilled. My therapist just didn't measure up to the previous year and I don't feel like I learned a lot. Despite that, my experiences at this facility have been largely positive. I've heard some horror stories from other local mental health hospitals, and I'm glad I chose Mesa. From what I understand, this is the best one in the Fort Worth area. And also remember, a lot of people who post reviews about their experience or have loved ones who have been inpatient are going through one of the hardest times in their lives, so negative reviews can be slightly skewed by their current outlook. I would 100% recommended this facility. PS if you come for a psych evaluation, please note that YES, it will most likely be a long wait. Most ERs and psych hospitals do have these things waits. Don't be frustrated. The staff is doing their best to get to you in a timely manner while being thorough with your care. My average time from beginning to end is about 5 hours. This is the worse place for care! I wouldn't send anyone here!!!! The doctors pass their work off onto the NPs and so anyone that wants to discuss about their care they can't because the doctors don't actually go see them. They bully anyone who feels they are ready to leave into making them stay or they will contact the police and have the courts demand them to stay even longer. Family can't call and actually speak with anyone as you have to leave a message and then no one returns a call. If a patient tries to check themselves out they are bullied to stay or the doctor says it's my right to hold you an extra 24 hours. This is the most ridiculous piss poor excuse for care I have even seen! Horrific place and service! read more

This was my FIRST Mental Health place, it was terrible. This review is from the perspective of a patient. I found another patient whose experience lined up with me, excuse me if any similarities arise. Wrongdoings: .They was no communication to my parents, they only information they received was from my 10 minute twice a day phone calls. They received a total of 2 calls, both from the hospital concerning switching/adding medicine. When they asked how I was treating, no response. When they came to pick me up since there was no communication, the therapist promised to return, she did not. Nor the doctor or my caseworker. .They REFUSED to for me meds though I requested it in the morning hours, only supplying it to me at 8:45-9:45 (or later/not at all) right before bedtime. Once, they gave me Trazodone, when I requested it at night. They gave it to me, while I was ASLEEP! That's how long it took. .When I was getting blood drawn, I looked out of the way. Since I'm scared of needles/blood. The staff made fun of me looking away, asking if I'm scared with a mocking tone. .When I complained about my meds not working, and still hearing voices, Doctor Nikalapu didn't up my prescription from 2mg to anything. He knew I was struggling. .They never gave me a Texas Education Agent, which was on the Teen Bill of Rights. I am now more behind on school work. So I have right to sue according to my rights being violated. .After I asked for pads, they gave me one. Despite my heavy blood flow. .I was suffering from a HEAVY flu, from my mom, a they wouldn't give me medication/nasal spray till I saw the doctor, who I had to approach on my own terms as she was talking with staff ONLY, and would not come frequently. .PCAs' were always on their phone. .There were rats/cockroaches in our rooms. read more

Parents, I strongly advise you not to bring your children here for mental-health services. I visited this facility seeking an assessment for my child, and the experience was extremely concerning. The individual conducting the assessment did not ask my child any meaningful questions about the thoughts and feelings she was experiencing. Instead, she immediately recommended inpatient care. When I asked whether there were any outpatient alternatives, I was told there were none. I explained that my child was uncomfortable staying in an unfamiliar place and made it clear that she would be speaking with her regular therapist instead. The staff member then stated that if we chose to leave, a report might be filed with CPS or the police. Although she claimed she was not explicitly threatening this, an officer arrived at my home shortly afterward and spoke with my child, who told him she was fine. At 4:00 a.m., another officer arrived to perform a wellness check on behalf of CPS. The staff member had falsely reported that I refused care for my child, which was not true,I refused that specific facility, not treatment in general. My child did not even meet with a doctor; the evaluation was conducted by someone via a tablet. Overall, the handling of our situation was inappropriate and distressing, and I do not recommend this facility for children's mental-health needs. read more

My son has been to two other behavioral health hospitals in the metroplex and Mesa Springs is by far the best. They have caring and genuine providers who aren't just there for a paycheck. They communicate their course of action every step of the way. This is the only facility I would use again. read more

A family member of mine was admitted for 8 days and said nothing but great things. We did wait a few hours for an assessment but the providers were very compassionate and identified quickly that he was experiencing a mental health crisis that required inpatient admission. He needed some medication changes and a break from life stressors so he could heal. When I picked him up he was mentally healthier than he had been in years. We had the opposite experience at another psychiatric hospital in the area last year. It seems they are doing some really great work at Mesa Springs and I would recommend them to anyone needing help! read more

A few weeks ago, I suffered a nervous breakdown and went inpatient at Mesa Springs hospital in Fort Worth. I'm happy to report that I'm now home and doing much better. It was one of the scariest times of my life and it was made much more difficult by Mesa Springs executive leadership's desire to put profits above patient health and safety. I wasn't surprised to learn that the hospital had recently been acquired by an investment firm. Unfortunately, I deal with these types of companies all the time in my role at Microsoft and, in my experience and unvarnished opinion, most are run by sociopaths. The patient-facing staff at Mesa Springs was incredibly caring and, with limited resources, made me feel safe and cared for as best they could with the resources they had available. I want to make it clear that these people were angels on earth during one of the most difficult times of my life. However, there were two situations created by Mesa Springs desire to squeeze every penny out of hospital operations that made me feel very uncomfortable and, in my opinion (and, as I later learned, the staff's), need to be publicly brought to light -- 1. I was violently assaulted by another patient in the facility while returning from lunch. I was shocked and traumatized. As one of the nurses pulled her off of me, I hid for cover and immediately learned that she had stripped literally all her clothes off and run free through the hospital. I was informed that I could press charges against my attacker but I declined noting that she was mentally ill. I was, however, shocked to learn that she was continuing to freely physically and sexually attack almost all other patients in another ward (over the next five days) including a profoundly autistic young man who was so disturbed that he couldn't stop vomiting. The leadership refused to separate her from the rest of the group as she continued to make others feel very uncomfortable across both wards. In chatting with the nurses, they agreed that what was happening was wrong and even mentioned that they weren't supposed to be handling profoundly autistic children (and others -- wasn't completely clear on which specific groups) in that ward. They made it clear to me that it was a cost-cutting measure. I was deeply disappointed that I couldn't attend all the group sessions out of fear of being attacked again as I was there to get mentally healthy. Mesa Springs leadership was very visibly prioritizing the attacker's mental health over everyone else's which is so incredibly wrong for other patients in their darkest and most vulnerable hour. I feel that being kept away from my attacker so I could focus on my mental health was a very reasonable request that Mesa Springs flatly refused to satisfy. 2. Many patients and staff complained openly about the hospital's decision to remove the reusable water bottles that were provided to patients on admission. They were replaced with small disposable Styrofoam cups. Both the patients and staff felt it was wrong. In particular, many patients noted that staying hydrated was key to getting healthier. This wouldn't have been such a big deal had they not posted mask requirement posters all over the building and in our patient welcome documents. I confronted the leadership about this noting that they were being hypocrites and, based on their own rules, creating a dangerous health hazard with mask requirements and open Styrofoam cups. Both the staff and I were shocked when someone came through the hospital shortly thereafter and pulled down all the mask requirement posters after I called out their potentially dangerous patient health decisions. I was just going to drop all this and move on with my life but the nursing staff encouraged me to go public with this information in an effort to bring the dangerous conditions at Mesa Springs to light. read more

My husband had been at a previous facility prior to coming to Mesa Springs. Once he was at Mesa Springs he received the care he needed. Staff were wonderful- Paul very helpful, Heather, RN wonderful. The therapist Sara is AMAZING! Doctors listened to my husband and I to find a treatment plan that worked for him. I would highly recommend it for any adult with any mental health issue. I can't speak on the adolescence level. read more

My husband is bipolar. He went there during a manic episode. He had a psychotic break within the first two days of treawnt and when we called to tell them that he practically kidnapped our younger daughter in the middle of the night, that we were scared for his safety and our own, we did not even get a call back. it looks like they are only treating him for depression and that is actually making the manic phase way worse. it seems odd that for mental health they have not contacted his wife or grown children for insight. Mesa springs is holding my friend there who has been mistreated and not been able to seek medical care for several injuries. The family has left several reviews in hopes to get her out and receive actual care from a facility who cares about their patients. The CEO saw the reviews and came to mesa springs to scold her about the reviews that were left. INSTEAD of addressing the staff who has mistreated her. This place is not a safe place to take your child. Upon check-in the door was not locked, and my kid escaped. The front desk person was not interested in the well being of ourselves or our kid after he escaped. After police was called the desk female canceled the 911 call without knowing or having anyone on the grounds attempt to help in the search for our child. We had to call 911 again after a 20 minute wait ourselves with No signs of security or any other safety measures even considered. After police assisted there was no person at the desk area and we had to wait several minutes before we could get back in. At that point decided our child would not be safe there and left. Patient well being is not a priority here. read more

I honestly enjoyed the people there and they helped me a bunch, the food they serve for the In patients was delicious and they took everyone in more then just mental health but some people that were suffering nicotine withdrawal helped them with their edge. Great community read more

When I visited, I was truly seeking help and more information about how to handle my everyday life. When my mother and I arrived one of the receptionist bluntly asked "visiting?" with barley any eye contact, she was not preoccupied at the time, when I answered "no" the other receptionist (heavy set) talked to us very rudely while giving over the paper work, i then comment how "friendly" they are. Once finishing the paperwork my mother returned it, the heavier set lady seemed to have lost her attitude when I ( the patient ) wasn't interacting with her. After waiting 3+ hours for an assessment, my name was called. The black supervisor with bright pink shoes lied to me. I said i wanted my mother with me and she said I must answer questions alone first, about abuse. i sit in the empty room alone or 15+ mins with no questioning, then Elizabeth came to begin my assessment asking no questions first about abuse so i request my mother and she refuses twice before letting me exercise my rights, where she later asked abuse questions near the very end. They gave me one option, group therapy 5 days a week 6 hours a day when i declined because I communicated i wasn't comfortable with that they sent me home. HORRIBLE STAFF. ( when i was put in the room for 15+ mins, before that my mother was asking how much longer because i was losing hope by sitting and waiting since getting help is hard for me that's when i was put separate to just sit more feeling trapped.) I-don't want an automated message, i want to be treated like a person. read more

What a freaking joke! I called to get my child an appointment for an assessment. I was told they could get us in and asked if I could be here tonight. I told them I could but I live 40 minutes away. She said no problem as long as you can get here in an hour. We gathered our belongings and made it there before the 7:30 pm time frame. We get here they tell us they don't have and appointment scheduled and we'll have to wait to be a "walk-in" We've waited over 4 hours. Have still not seen anyone and they're pulling people ahead of us. We've questions it multiple times as I called and made an appointment but they still are refusing to do anything productive. You'd think for a mental health facility they would be efficient especially dealing with angry and upset people but they clearly do NOT care what your situation is and get a kick out of pissing off people who are already dealing with a lot. read more

This place is a joke! Took someone to try and get help. Person was having auditory and visual hallucinations. Person was threatening to kill people and has access to guns. The psychiatrist asked all of a couple questions after the intake was complete and then said this person doesn't qualify for inpatient rehab and can be handled outpatient on a computer. This person doesn't own a smart phone and has no clue how to use a computer. Also thinks drones are flying overhead and spying so not so sure they would get online anyway. Seriously!! When this person kills someone I am coming after that psychiatrist license and suing the facility for neglect. This person wanted help and came with bags packed. This is the second time we were referred here. This place is awful. We sat in the waiting room for about 3 hours. No sense of urgency here what so ever. When we finally got to the screening process we spoke to intake for about an hour. We came in during business hours, but by the time we got to speak to a doctor, it was via iPad. The guy was super gruff when talking to our son. He asked my son about what meds he was taking and what they were for. When my son looked at me to help with the names this doctor SCREAMED at us that he was asking my son. You know, when your kid is fragile and dealing with anxiety and depression, some stranger yelling at you isn't helpful. That threw me way off. We watched my son shut down right then. Then when the doctor wanted to get some information from me I was still reeling from him screaming at us moments before. Then he comes at us all seemingly bothered that we had come there for help and after hearing what was going on (our son had been cheeking his anti anxiety and anti depression meds and begun to act out) has the freaking audacity to ask me what we wanted him to do about it? Really? A little help maybe? I mean you treat mental illness in adolescents there... Maybe help us get our mentally ill kid back on track before we have a repeat suicide attempt. I'm a recent patient. It's great as far as mental hospitals g. However, it's a slow process. From signing up to getting to the unit.

Well I drove an hour and a half to get there, when we got there i got really anxious about the place and waited for apx. 85-90 minutes. During this time period no one came and told us how much longer it was gonna take or whats taking so long. So I had gotten really anxious and my boyfriend couldn't calm me down, I was really uncomfortable.When we done my assessment they asked me personal questions like whats it like at home, who's my family etc. When the questions were done the women had brought in an iPad, with a psychiatrist on zoom. The Psychiatrist had said they had really good food, than later on said "I've never worked here before." Which really triggered me and made me really uncomfortable. My mom got thrown off so We signed papers and left. Two days go by and we've been notified about Mesa Springs calling cps on my mom for medical neglect. I was Pissed off, then cps told us they were gonna close the case cause they know my mom. read more

My sister was checked in here and since she's been here all she does is talk about how mean the nurses and staff are and says "shouldn't they be nicer since the majority of girls in my unit have mental health issues?" And she's completely right. I'd figure they'd at least want to help the patients feel better but instead she says she treats them like they don't even want to be there. I don't understand why they'd even work there if they're only going to treat the patients like garbage. If you think you're going to worry about your family/friend while they're in a place like this with little contact and surrounded by strangers like I worry about my sister, I'd suggest not bringing them here. read more

I've been hospitalized over 20 times since my son passed away in 1995. I've been to Mesa Springs about 3 or 4 times over the past 6 years. The clerical staff are awesome! The intake is smooth and relaxing. The nursing staff goes above and beyond to give you the best treatment possible. The techs are amazing! There is one particular tech who I bonded with. She's helped me so much during my stays. Her name is Shawn. I think I heard she's no longer there. Also the activities are amazing. Art, music, yoga, workout room, pet therapy. Yes, pet. Can't remember three therapists name but he'd bring his own personal registered emotional therapy dog. read more

I went into Mesa very depressed and unhappy. I stayed for 3 days and care our a new person. The staff was amazing, the food was great & the environment was sad and friendly. I felt protected and safe my whole stay. The therapists and psychiatrist I had were outstanding. They helped get me medicine right for me and come up with a safety plan. 10/10 recommend going here if you're having any doubts or sad feelings or anything in general. read more

The staff was very attentive. They have the best therapists. It was very clean and comfortable. A huge plus is you have outdoor time. And the food is delicious and they give you the option to substitute your order. I have improved tremendously since being there last. I am grateful this facility exists. read more

Unfortunately, we have had the occasion to be at several psych hospitals with our daughter. By far, Mesa Springs has been the best. The staff are friendly, and listen. The facility is new and updated which creates a comfortable environment. Don't get me wrong, it's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it met our needs, keeping our daughter safe. As these decisions seem to be made in an instant, in our case from the emergency room, you should feel confident in going to Mesa Springs. My heart goes out to anyone in this situation, it's not easy. We just do the best we can with the limited information we've got. Don't do it. Terrible experience. The staff is clueless about the patients. As a parent, it is terrifying to try and reach your child by phone and nobody knows who you are talking about. Most of the staff beyond the front desk cannot speak enough English to understand or be understood. The communication between the patient and staff and the family and staff is zero! It's a money maker. Period. The best interest of the patient is not a consideration. I will tell everyone I can to stay far away. I only added the one star because I can't post without it. i was 14 when i was there for inpatient and i had the best experience. i went around when it opened. i was there for depression and threatening suicide. the doctors were helpful, the staff were kind. we had family game nights there, it was sooo fun, we were able to win prizes. the therapists' cared which is great. the rooms even looked like hotel rooms. read more

It is no exaggerations to say Mesa Springs saved my life. I enrolled in the outpatient programs due to debilitating anxiety and depression. In 5 weeks the doctors got my medications balanced and taught me coping mechanisms and remolded my thinking habits. EVERY single person on staff there was pleasant. The food was great and the daily therapy and curriculum is so organized and well thought out. I would 100% recommend Mesa Springs to anyone struggling. read more

This place is terrible. I was referred for an assessment to determine if I am an autistic adult, or if I possibly have anxiety due to childhood abuse. I asked if I was checking myself into any sort of psych hospital, & if I was going to be locked up & not allowed to leave, & was told "no." They assured me I was there for an assessment which would take apx. 90 mins w/ a licensed therapist. They called me back to get my vitals, I had to go through a locked door, which made me feel incredibly uncomfortable, but I did it. This was after locking all my personal belongings up & being wanded w/ a metal detector. They took a photo of me, & I asked why that was needed & was told that the doctor likes to have a picture of their patient.15 mins after my scheduled apt., I ask how long it is going to take due to having responsibilities, & was told they weren't sure. At that point, I questioned being in the right place & that I was looking for holistic therapy such as art therapy, group therapy, animal therapy, etc, & was told that in order to participate in those activities, I had to do the assessment process. I stated that I was going to go ahead & go because I felt like I was in the wrong place, & was told I would have to sign some paperwork. What the actual f? What paperwork would I need to sign? That I no longer wanted an assessment? The receptionist went into a back area and came back and told me I was next and it shouldn't be more than 5 more minutes. My gut intuition kept telling me I needed to leave, but I really want a valid and clear diagnosis so I choose to stay. I finally go back into a room, & a lady comes in asking me a ton of personal questions, especially in regards to if I'm thinking of hurting myself or someone, how long I've been depressed, if I hear voices, all my personal information, who my family is, etc. At this point I am getting incredibly uncomfortable. I kept telling her that I wasn't depressed, clearly I could get up, go to work, keep my hygiene in check. She asked what time I got up in the morning (4:30am) then stated that I was having trouble sleeping to which I stated, well, yes it's hard to fall asleep. After a few more questions, she went back to how early I get up, and I told her that I had to get up that early to get ready and go to work. She then said something like Oh, so you're not getting up because you can't sleep? (No, that's when my alarm goes off). I then stated to this woman, we needed to wrap it up because I had responsibilities and needed to leave by 7:30 and I had already been there for over an hour and a half. She just kept saying, "Oh... okay". She continued berating me with mis-leading questions about my depression. I had to continually tell her I wasn't depressed. I had a lot of anxiety and wanted to be assessed as being possibly autistic or if I just had some sort of anxiety disorder from childhood abuse. Finally the questions were done, in which case she stated she would go back to consult with a doctor to come up with a medication and treatment plan. What the fuck....again. I don't need mood stabilizers. I was stabilized. I was starting to get really anxious, because the lights were super bright, there was screaming and continuous door slamming and I was now locked in a room that was in another locked area. I'm not sure what treatment plan they wanted to put me on, but I kept telling her I just wanted to do some group therapy and possible art/animal therapy. I finally told her I didn't have time for this anymore, and that I would seek what I was wanting elsewhere in which she told me to hold on so she could go "ask." She came back 10 mins later and said the doctor should be there shortly. I asked how long. She stated probably/maybe 10 mins., but she didn't know for sure because he wasn't on hand at the moment. I stated I wanted to leave, to which she stated I had to sign papers. I said fine. She went back into some other room, while I waited. I saw another lady and said the same thing, to which she stated the other lady was getting the papers for me to sign. At this point, it seemed visitation for the actual patients was ending, and people were shuffling from the visitation area to the outside waiting area. Something told me to get out of there. I could see the orderly holding the door open, so I ran up there and walked right past him and got the hell out of there as fast as possible. So, here's my problem. Maybe do a pre-screening and get a little better at determining what your potential clients needs are. I ended up having a full on panic attack (which I haven't had in almost a year) because of these idiots. Second, it was real easy to leave when I finally had the chance. Hope your patients who DO need mental help/stabilization don't get to leave that easy. Looks like a potential window for a lawsuit in the future.... read more

My friends has been hospitalized here for the past couple of days, have spoken to her maybe 2 times because the staff never answers or is "busy". I've been calling for 6 hours and every time it's another excuse, sometimes I even get rude staff answering the phone. I've gotten transferred over 20 times and no one knows what they are talking about. I'm not speaking for her personal experience but I personally think the staff needs work. read more

Worst facility I have ever taken my wife to. Evidently they are too busy to care. Admitting took three hours and we sill had not see anyone from the nursing staff or any medical provider. Meanwhile my wife was extremely agitated and labile and becoming delusional. Complicating this is her history of recent withdrawal seizures and hallucinations which was known to them. The treatment for this was a water and a blanket. I saw this was not a safe place for my wife, so I left having to urgently find a safe facility to take care of my wife. read more

last month, my mental health got extremely bad i had to come to this mental hospital i don't want to go back they take so long to assist you, the adults in the willows unit treated me like shit. they wouldn't give me any privacy if i wanted to use the restroom and they made us wake up very early and didn't let us take naps and we were all tired. and don't even get me started on the food, ok well some of it like the salad was really good but if i wanted like mac and cheese or pasta its always so cold. omg and the rooms too, the bed is lumpy and small, the blanket is like a towel and the pillow is like paper, plus at like 5 in the morning they would wake us up to check our vidals i dont recommend this place read more

My stepson took his own life less than two weeks after being here. When asked to send a full copy of all medical records, and after a lengthy search to find out how to even get the records, we received 49 pages. 24 of those pages were duplicates of others. There were no details by doctors we are receiving insurance co-pay notices about services we are unsure were ever performed. Run, do not walk, away from this place. read more

My daughter was inpatient here for 1 week. At intake, a nurse and I agreed to a very specific diabetes care plan spelled out in doctor's orders from our endocrinologist. However, once inside, the nursing staff "did not have the authority" to follow those orders without calling their own medical doctor, who changed the plan (without notifying me) and would not allow my daughter to have insulin at the bedtime snack, regardless of how many carbs she ate (insulin dosing is based on carbs). This is not good diabetes care, but my experience is that none of these inpatient places can properly manage diabetes. Mesa Springs is way better than Seay Center in Plano, where they argued with my daughter about treatment even though they, too, had doctor's orders but would not follow them. Menninger in Houston wouldn't even accept my daughter because they didn't like her blood sugars and, in my opinion, had unrealistic expectations for teen diabetics. So bottom line is that there are not good mental health treatment options for diabetics (and most likely other health conditions that require extra attention). Communication after discharge has been a problem. I left 2 messages (on monday and wednesday) for the Discharge Coordinator, who never called me back. So I followed up with a message to her supervisor, who also never returned my call. At intake, we were told there's pet therapy, but my daughter saw the dog only once during the week. Communication with the nurses and therapists, however, was good. My daughter didn't benefit from the therapy, but that could be her fault, not theirs. She did have one nurse that she really liked, and she met other inpatients that she liked. There's a risk in making friends in this setting, though, because they may encourage each other to continue more self destructive behaviors. Summary: If your kid is suicidal, you gotta do what you can, but the options for kids with medical conditions is meh. And what is said at intake is not necessarily what actually happens after you leave.
