I'd been struggling with…read moredepression and anxiety since I was 15, and now at 20 the consequences of these conditions were having a disastrous affect on my school performance. I went to this doctor because I needed help. I felt like an outsider looking in, trying but failing to be a Human Normal. I hated myself with fury and fire. And I didn't want to want to die, but I certainly longed for an eternal reprieve from the pain. So I went to a doctor. I was in school in Brooklyn but grew up in Texas, and as I was home for the holidays, I started seeing Dr. Alloju. I didn't know the far-reaching and indelible mark this would leave on my life, changing the course completely. I was a bright kid. I read constantly. A bit of a nerd. A writing major. I wanted to write plays and movies. But here's what happened instead: After talking to me for 45 minutes and barely listening, this woman diagnosed me as having Bipolar II Disorder. I wasn't that upset about it because I thought, well maybe she's right and maybe she can help me. Over the course of the next year, culminating in a near-death experience, I was put on these medications concurrently: Lamictal 400mg, Seroquel 350mg, Klonopin 2mg twice daily, and to cap it all off, Geodon 80mg. This is enough medication to sedate an obese elephant. I was 20 years old, 5'2 and 107 lbs. I had to drop out of college because I almost died from this demented drug cocktail. That was a long time ago and I'm still angry. I'm still angry that it took me 10 more years before I was properly diagnosed as ADHD and on the autism spectrum. I didn't need to be on those drugs. I just didn't. When I told her they weren't working, she'd just increase the dosages. Once, during a phone session, she said I sounded drunk and went a step further to label me as an alcoholic. I didn't really drink at the time; my words were slurred because of the sedating medication. The irony, of course, is that Dr. Alloju has multiple DUIs and was on some sort of probation while treating me. I only have flashbulb memories from an entire year of my life. Apparently I almost died from an overdose of these medications. It took many years to try and get my life back from this monster. This is all to say, this woman will destroy your mind, body, and spirit. And she almost ended my life. What she did to me was criminal. Not just malpractice, although it was also that, but it was a deeply immoral negligence and breach of trust. At least if she *had* killed me she might not be practicing to this day. Stay. Away.

Some teachers are still not great people, they still lie, they're still human. Refusal to own your mistakes is the issue here. Penny and Dixie never resolved this issue for me. I wasted many hours of my working time chasing this issue down and I ended up with maybe half of what I was owed. I filed 26 claims and had further issues with my insurance who continued to not understand why the claims were not filed by the provider. Every other provider I've ever had figures out insurance. Penny's practice is not unique in these circumstances whatsoever. I've had all sorts of providers and insurances for over 20 years and never once had such a miserable experience. I hope next time you edit your response, you consider an apology.

After calling and leaving messages for over a month, in desperation I had my wife drive me to the office to try and set an appointment. Upon arrival I went into the office, adorned by some really interesting art, almost like an art gallery. I love art and was impressed, but that was short live after noticing one woman waiting in the waiting area, while a loud woman(I guess a secretary)was talking loudly to a patient on the phone that was trying to explain to her that they needed a refill. (Unfotunately I heard quite a bit) She continued to cut the person on the phone off, telling them she couldn't help them and they needed to come in and see the Dr. Fair enough. As soon as she got off the phone, before saying or asking much of anything, she informed me that they were "cash only" and "didn't accept insurance". First of all, I have just lost my mom a year ago and my younger brother a few months ago, so I am already in a really dark place, but instead of telling me about the services, setting up an appointment to let me speak to the dr, this cold hearted witch goes right into telling me how they don't take any insurance and giving me the prices per visit, including the visit to see if they can even help me. Being desperate and depressed I just kept asking her when I could get an appointment. She followed everything up with telling me the cost (I guess I looked like I couldn't afford it) after 10 minutes of her telling me their ridiculous prices, we left. It was a shock to meet someone that deals with mental health act like that. Far from professional, but clear about what is most important to these crooks. Save your time, and money and look ANYWHERE else. The ONLY thing this place is interested in is $$. Not in helping the patient. BTW, I was well aware that they might not take my insurance, but having this woman shove that down my throat instead of showing any empathy, concern, or just caring, was enough for me. I dont do many reviews, but this bothered me so much, I felt obligated to warn others. Good luck, and help is out there. Just don't waste your time and end up in a worse mental state by going by here, and go somewhere that actually cares more about their patients, then their exotic art and money.

She has a calming presence and helps clients who are really struggling find peace and comfort. Can't say enough about Ms. Kara is the person who runs the show. She may sit at the front desk, but she will also become one of your biggest advocates. When she tells you she cares about you or says, "I got you," she truly means it. She wants you to succeed and move forward into a better life. I remember showing up one day, and she told me how pretty I looked and that she was proud of me. She was proud of me and then wrapped me in one of her giant Kara hugs. Even though I mentioned two people specifically, all of the staff are caring and supportive. They won't let you feel sorry for yourself, but they will help you recognize the direction you need to go and encourage you every step of the way. This place and its staff truly helped save me from my depression. Ms. Kara says this isn't your first home, but your second home, and that really reflects how they make you feel. Every Solstice staff member truly cared about the patients. Working in this field has to be incredibly difficult, but the whole staff cared about everyone.
