We stopped by for a snack and a drink. Drinks and the charcuterie board were both excellent. The service was friendly. Each server was their own bartender which made things chaotic. The only suggestion I would make would be to have one bartender and have service people take and deliver orders. Otherwise, it was a great experience. Wait! I just stayed here and this is a totally new hotel and bar. Under new management and a 3-year renovation. My husband & I stayed here two nights and would return in a heartbeat. The hotel rooms are clean, remodeled & beautifully decorated in different themes. Note- no elevator but the climb is so worth it. Incredibly comfy beds, linens & plush towels. Nice continental breakfast. Loved the homemade granola. Now the Fireworxs Bar feels like a casual livingroom with friends - locals & travelers. Small bites & cocktails are unique & yummy. Casual laidback music. There is nothing like this place in town! read more

The hotel is very beautiful. The workmanship in every little detail was outstanding. The cost is comparable to the island, so why not just stay on the island The lack of stairs should be a concern for anyone not in perfect shape. The service was excellent. Especially Zack. The Boardwalk Fireworx lounge is sleek , modern, cozy and sexy with all the appointments of big city cool vibes and the staff on our Saturday afternoon visit was great! The Old Fashioned and Manhattan was perfect and the humus platter unexpectedly different and a definite repeat. Piano bar music completed a fun 1st visit. So I will give you that the place is beautiful. On this particular evening, the experience was not congruent with the physical environment. Lackluster service, no effective management and an untrained staff that seemed to flounder. They had no kitchen service at my visit. When pushed for something they presented a cellophane wrapped "slider". We are starving for culture and sophistication outside of that on THE island. I am still holding out this can develop into that. read more

This place is HIGH END and big-city-cool in a town that is just getting by. We have a cottage up that way and we were THRILLED to see a new place of this caliber open. We popped in about 3 weeks ago on a Friday night. The interior is SERIOUSLY candy for the eyes! Everything is high-end, well-chosen, and of gorgeous quality. Everywhere you look there is something fun or interesting to see. There was even live music this particular night and she was fabulous. Service....well, I hope they get all of the bugs worked out. The bartender was on his second day and this was evident and he told me. Don't tell anyone you are new! A talented bartender I think, but in no way ready to handle a Friday night. Glassware is GORGEOUS! First drinks were perfect, second drinks were awful. My second manhattan had foam on it? I think they will get this worked out. There were 2 servers. One was attentive when she wasn't training the manager on the computer for very long periods (this should not be happening while open and especially not a Friday night) and the other didn't seem to take a table at all but just brought 2 clean glasses on a tray from the back to the front from time to time and, that was it. Our server was lovely, and friendly but left us waiting for drinks. When she came, she was more interested in typing into the handheld ordering device in front of us than making eye contact or conversation. Write the order down, check your tables, if possible, then step away to put the order in the computer. It is not hard to give good personal service. The only food available that night, maybe the chef was a no-show, were the Italian sliders. They were presented to us wrapped in cling wrap on a cute plate. Really....remove the cling wrap, and pop a toothpick in it. With every other detail so very carefully considered this was a HUGE mistake in the presentation. It had no dressing so it was not great. Another suggestion is to lose the big monster table. It takes up tooooo much room and encourages family dining...this is a bar with light snacks, cocktails and a bar vibe. Not romper room. The children were in everyone's way, unattended and if you are a business owner...kids are not your money maker in a bar. Put a server computer in the corner for ordering and processing guest checks so you can lose the handheld ordeal and add high-top tables in this space instead. You can put the big table back in the off-season. We will go back for certain but the next visit has to be improved. This town needs this place badly and it won't take much to make it all as great as the interior/setting/vibe. I commend the new owners for their investment and exquisite taste in decor and for taking a chance on this sad little town. We need more of this to draw people over the bridge to visit the Island, to improve the economy on this side and to set the pace for the old-timers who want nothing to change. Change is good for the young folks in their area....if nothing else changes they won't have a job to stay for. read more

Don't knock a treasure at a bargain price I say. But hey, I like antiques. As the name Boardwalk Inn indicates it makes no claim to be a B&B. So do not expect that. I found it to be, however, a nice combination of B&B and hotel. It has an antique feel to it. And that made us feel at home. The room was clean. Their breakfast was satisfying even without warm offerings like eggs, etc. I was happy to have coffee waiting each morning that I did not have to brew! There is also free Wi-Fi. provided to guests. By the way, there is no elevator. So if you book on the 3rd floor stairs are your only option. Since it is downtown a lot is within walking distance. The Galley restaurant and BC Pizza across the street are both real good choices. Then there's Arnold Ferry dock for a hop to the island and lots of little shops to visit. We will be return customers if we go bock to stay in town in the future. The owners are nice and live on site. The place is up for sale so it may change. But I am hoping it does not. read more

Can't say that we would stay again. No elevator and all the rooms are up two flights of stairs so keep that in mind if you are older and have bad knees like me. As others have stated very outdated and not charming at all. Beds aren't very comfortable and the chair in the rooms was awful. And then breakfast. Doesn't open until 8! WTF? Many folks want to hit the road long before then. And it's not like they are putting out a big spread. Some bagels, bread, oatmeal packets. Hay, if you want to run an inn, you need to have some breakfast by at least 7. Nope, can't give it more than a 2 and that is being generous. read more

We've stayed here twice for the Mighty Mac Run. Both times we have enjoyed our stay. The owners are friendly and informative abuotvthe area. The hotel is charming and the rooms are well done. Everything is clean. Some minor maintenance issues, but that is to be expected in an older building. Breakfast is adequate and the coffee is hot. The hotel is well situated for walking the downtown area, catching a ferry to the island or heading to Sault Ste. Marie, Tahquamanon Falls or the Pictured Rocks. Great old building with lots of charm. We will be visiting again! read more

My wife, my son and I stayed one night in September while we were passing through Saint Ignace on the way to the Upper Peninsula of MI. Overall the B&B is an average one, but we found the breakfast to be disappointing, and had one particular issue that hopefully has been corrected since our stay. The following are the details we noticed in our one night at the Boardwalk Inn: Positives: * Located right by the waterfront and marina in the middle of downtown Saint Ignace. Many shops, restaurants, and activities are nearby. * Owners are friendly and helpful. * We were traveling with our 2 year old son, and the Boardwalk Inn accepts children, which is not the case with majority of B&Bs (I suppose this could be a negative if you are not traveling with kids, but it was positive for us). Negatives: * The bed had bedbugs. I checked the mattress and box spring after I found what I thought was a bedbug crawling on the sink. I found a number of dead bugs in the corner crease of the box spring. When I pointed this out to the owners, they were quick to promise to take care of the problem and refunded our night's charges. They were very apologetic and seemed sincere in taking care of the problem. Before staying here, please call to find out if they have eradicated the problem. (I should note that bedbugs can be brought into any hotel by a guest in their luggage and clothing from another location, and doesn't necessarily indicate poor housekeeping or a low level of cleanliness in the infected hotel. The problem does have to be taken care of quickly, however, before it spreads to other rooms, or to guests' homes.) * The furnishings seem somewhat mismatched and outdated. I understand that the room is intended to be filled with antiques, but somehow they do not seem to do together, and some of the modern conveniences of even old-fashioned B&Bs are missing (eg., a phone in the room, a modern alarm clock, hairdryer, etc). * The floor are rather creaky and the walls quite thin, leading to noisy neighbors. * The breakfast quality, variety and service were not what I expect for a B&B. The choices were very limited - cold cereal, oatmeal from a packet, hot cocoa from a packet, supermarket bagels, concentrated juice and some fruit. The coffeemaker in the dining area is set to come on early morning, and it holds about 6 cups and is not refilled. The coffee comes with powdered creamer and sugar, which are next to the roll of paper towels that serves as napkins. We did not see the hosts at any time during the breakfast service, and various items needed attention, such as resetting the coffeemaker, or refilling food as it ran out. Especially for a B&B type establishment, this area of service must be improved. read more

It is dated. Rooms are spartan. Old TV with lousy reception. No hot food at breakfast, just cold cereal, lousy bagels. The owners were not around. Pay more and go elsewhere. read more

The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast is low quality, nothing really for people who eat "real" food: white bagels, white english muffins, instant oatmeal, sugar coated cereal, weak coffee. A good quality breakfast would make this hotel a very good choice. read more

Great location, but that's where it stops. The rooms appear clean, but smell old and musty. Many stains on the carpets which have accumulated. The help is less than helpful, the only thing they seemed interested in doing was running the credit card, after that they treat you as if you had no business being there. The breakfast was very disappointing ... I've had in "economy inns". The help smokes on the grounds and carries the smell in with them. I would not recommend this place to anyone. We were going to return after a week but had to change our plans ... they charged us $20.00 to cancel the future reservation. read more
