Still trying to school myself on the parking permit situation. I know if you're a Libertyville resident you have a permit and can park on certain spaces. If you are just an average Joe, you can still pay for your parking using the little kiosk near the station entrance, or use the App - ParkMobile. I believe parking is still $2/day. There are plenty of spaces to sit inside while you wait for your train, and also a bathroom. Even a little vending machine to buy a cold pop or water if needed. You don't have to walk far at all to get to the train platform as it's literally outside the door. Nice station.

There is seating inside and outside to wait for your train or to be picked up. They have a ticket machine available, but honestly it is much easier buying a metra ticket on the app. The station is conveniently located in downtown Libertyville and has ample parking for commuters (for a price, of course). It is walkable to a couple of nearby coffee shops too. FYI Metra Milwaukee District North line to Chicago seems to run late all the time. So, allow for ample travel time!

In my opinion, one of the better Metra stations that I have used in the Chicago suburbs. It was…read moreeither built or refurbished recently, everything looked neat and clean to me. I noticed that the waiting area is open 5 AM to 8 PM which is somewhat later than other stations in the NW suburbs. There is a good deal of automobile parking available but it is broken up into smallish lots around the station. The parking payment kiosks are sheltered either in the main station or one of the satellite shelters. I was only able to spot one bicycle parking rack and it probably holds 10-15 bicycles. It is a bring your own lock or security device type of rack; coverings are not available. Unusual for Metra stations in the 'burbs- the BG Station has both a Coffee/Snack shop open mornings and a vending machine with drinks and snacks in the station waiting area that is available for use during station hours. Prices for both the vending machine and snack shop seemed reasonable to me (example being a Hershey's chocolate almond bar in the vending machine for 75 cents which I feel is less than you would pay at a convience store or gas station). There is one fully enclosed and three semi-enclosed satellite shelters that are separate from the main station. Platform 1 is fully handicap accessible, handicap access to platform 2 is possible but may require more time and care. Pace suburban bus service for routes 234, 272, 581, 582 and 626 stop at the nearby bus shelter.

Then, on the way home, I did as instructed to get off the train, yet there was no employee to help me get off, I started panicking, knocking on the employee doors asking for help out loud, and no one came. They kept saying last call and I opened the door myself to get off because no one was there to assist me after literally panicking to try to get off the train Once I was off and extremely rude employee came and screamed at my face telling me that I did something wrong and that if I did it again, I would be banned, even though I told him that there was no one there to help me or guide me in the right direction and I was trapped on the train, if I could get his name, I would . But instead, he screamed in my face and stormed off. Extremely unhelpful and rude staff , the staff member who screamed profanity in my face should be absolutely fired. What a terrible way to run a travel business.

Station is maintained by city of Sturtevant they take care of snow removal and security. There are often local police in the parking lot. Couple of tips: 1. Listen for the track announcement as you would be simply guessing which track is going which direction. 2. Stay off the tracks and use the stair tower to get to other tracks. 3. In the winter the tower is heated. 4. The depot is heated and air conditioned. 5. Typically two doors open on the train when boarding, the doors more south when loading will offload closer to the station. Conversely when loading in Chicago the doors more north will open closer to the tower in Sturtevant. 6. No food or beverage is sold on the train. 7. They don't sell tickets on the train so purchase your ticket in advance. 8. People wait for trains, trains doing wait for people . Be one time.

The Lake Bluff Metra station is generally pleasant and useful…read more Good: the building is attractive and comfortable, in a woodsy Craftsman style. Bad: there are no benches to sit on at the outbound platform, as there are on the inbound side. Good: a ticket seller is present in the morning weekdays, to early afternoon. Bad: they lock the bathroom by early afternoon. Are they afraid I'll steal the paper towels? Good: the station is in the center of town. Within walking distance: a Friday farmer's market, several restaurants, banks with ATMs, a brewpub, grocery/deli, bike shop, post office, city park and public library. A small coffee shop is in the southern part of the station early on weekday mornings. Bad: there isn't anyplace within walking distance to get breakfast on a weekend before 9:00 AM.

I like that it's very close to some restaurants, in case you come early or want to grab a bite before your trip. The only thing wrong with this station is that sometimes the lady who you purchase your ticket from isn't there when the signs say she will be, which can cause issues on the train later (it's a higher fee for purchasing the ticket on the train if the train station is open). For the most part this has never been an issue for me, but you should always try to plan ahead. Other than that, it's a great station, much better than Great Lakes.
