My boyfriend and I came here to find something to wear for a festival that we have coming up next month. I will admit I didn't know much about the store coming in. I didn't have expectations. However, to my surprise, my boyfriend, I both walked out with our outfits for the festival next month. I got a dress and a wig for just under 100 bucks. The staff here was great and helpful. Overall, I would definitely be back here again. They have great clothes for festivals, costume parties and or overall just fun. It's the only spot (that I'm aware of) where you can buy items a little more on the kinky spectrum on Hawthorne Blvd ;) Lingerie, festival wear, some club wear, a little bit of every day wear and there's a selection for the fellas too! Halloween though is clearly their time to shine! The place is packed in October!! The employees are fun (check out the Instagram reels ) the owner is awesome and such a babe! However..... the prices aren't low, in fact some of the tags might make your bum pucker.... but this is a small business, not a super department chain! They can't cut cost like Amazon can..... which also brings me to the return policy- store credit is the best you'll get if you get anything. Again, small business. Staff is so great unless you get the weird manager guy who is overly desperate to be social with everyone. He kept following me around to shout "slay" every time I tried on a coat, and would recommend me the most random assortment of products I have ever seen in my life. He is nice, but I try to only come in when he is not there because he is a bit too pushy and overwhelming. the others who work there are great. No pushiness, minimal check-ins, no intense desire to become best friends, no random "slay" moments.... Just sales and professionalism. I enjoy the other staff a lot. Wonderful selection of costume jackets and hats. Genuinely the best selection in town, and I really mean that. Prices are a bit steep but you really won't find these products anywhere else in the city so it makes it worth it. Love the store, been going for over a decade. But the manager guy they dragged in a few years back is sort of a weirdo in a not fun or "slay" way and makes me want to not go there as often as I once did. read more

This is such a fun shop! I absolutely LOVE going here, there is just so much to see and endless options for outfits and costumes. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful. The prices are surprisingly reasonable. There are lots of items made locally too! Just a great place all around. For those who complain about staff seeming suspicious of shoplifting, please understand that they have to be. This kind of shop is typically hit HARD by shoplifters and the staff has a really tough job, walking that fine line of offering great customer service while still ensuring that their stock is paid for. Heads up that they now immediately demand to check normal-sized purses and personal bags behind the counter as you shop. You know, your bag, that contains your phone, wallet and other valuables. I left immediately and will never return. I worked retail for a long time and get it, but the way we avoided shrinkage was by greeting customers and circulating among them, not implementing incredibly tacky policies that treat every entering customer like a common thief. read more

Just a compliment that the girl in the front with the sparkly makeup was such a sweetheart and so helpful. I usually love shopping here for holiday, special event, or festival outfits and makeup, but was very frustrated by their new "purse check policy". I understand asking to check shopping bags or even large purses, but I was asked to check my tiny over-the-shoulder purse that literally only holds my phone, credit card, and ID. Firstly, no, a stranger doesn't get to hold onto my most important documents and money. Secondly.... What the hell am I actually going to steal in my 3x5 purse?! (PS.... Word to the wise, this place does not give refunds, even with the item, the tags, and the receipt. They only give in-store credit. If you have any doubt as to whether any one of their eclectic items may not fit or may not be well-received, Do Not Buy. I was looking for an item for my wife. Historically, I have visited about once a year over the last decade. Unfortunately, nothing in the store fits women that are over 6 feet and 225 pounds. (Clothes for little girls, not for real women.). However, they had a really cool mask that would be fine for my son. However, he is on the spectrum, and I wasn't sure he would even wear it. I asked the clerk whether returns were allowed, citing reason; she said they were. Come Christmas, everyone likes it, but he won't actually wear it because autism. i brought it back two days later, where a different clerk is working. She says she can only give in-store credit. I state that the other clerk had told me I could return it for money, and she says only the owner can give me a refund. However, the owner is on vacation until February. Effectively, there is no recourse. I will not be back. read more

I'm a bargain shopper so the prices seemed a little steep, but then, I am used to buying "gently worn" clothing and costume accessories and all their merchandise is new. Nowhere that I have found has Halloween costumes quite as nice or such a vast selection! I just wish they sold low cut fish net nylons. I came here to purchase 2 tragus earrings, with screw on backs, while my friend looked for costumes. Each earring cost $15 and it cost $5/each to have the piercer put them in (it's far harder to screw them in by yourself than one might think). That ran me $40 - plus the credit card machine asks how much you want to tip. I didn't see an option to opt out of that and didn't really like that I had to give 10%, 14% or 20%, considering it only took her 5 minutes to put my earrings in and she made $10 for that. I normally would tip a few bucks, but the piercer wasn't super friendly. She wasn't rude - per se - but she kept snapping at me for touching my ear. Last I checked, it was my ear and I could touch it - or rub dirt on it - if that's my wish. Anyway, the experience wasn't bad, but I was kicking myself for spending $44 for such a trivial thing - that I did not need. My friend ended up not buying a costume - because even the sale rack prices seemed a little high ($40 for the main part of a costume that'd need accessories), but she panned to go back if she didn't find anything better, cheaper, elsewhere. As for me, I already had a costume, but have purchased a few really cute accessory pieces here in the past (tiara's, tuts, leggings etc) and will continue to always pop in to see what new items I just "have to have". read more

I bought a lace dress and when I got home and took it out the item was incorrect. There was a bodysuit in my package instead, and it had a smell. I contacted the store and explained all this and they would not refund. I emailed the owner and was snapped at and was told once again they would not refund. I was offered store credit, which would be ok if there was something else there I wanted or if they had another of the item I thought I purchased. I came in late in the evening about an hour before the shop closed searching for a specific pair of Demonia's. I was greeted by the lovely Jude and they helped me pick out the right size and style. There was an issue with a zipper on THE pair of boots that I wanted and the shop only had one pair in my size, I was very sad and thought I wasn't going to be able to take them home. Jude went straight to work and got the zipper back into perfect condition and I was able to purchase the boots!! The customer service was amazing and this shop has been a staple in my life for years. Yikes! Okay, so they have a lot of cool jewelry and goth makeup. I likes. But why is it SUCH a big deal that someone help me put my new stud in? Oh, the piercer is laying around SICK while they're on the clock? But they'll still help me with the stud, right? OUCH...have you ever done this before? I can't help but to laugh at and criticize Metro every single time I walk by. Living on Hawthorne, this has become an almost-daily ritual. Metro is the Hot Topic of Hawthorne. The clothes are awful and the shoes are horrendous. Picture lots of black, lots of buckles and studs, flames, platform shoes and everything else hideous. It doesn't help that they blare music that is worthy of eye-rolling. But it does make it easy to make fun of. read more

I went to Metro for a piercing because a good friend said that Hannah was very good at her craft. My friend was absolutely right. Hannah explained everything beforehand and was professional during the procedure. The piercing room is a little small but very clean and they have a really cool chair. I was also given great aftercare instructions. I am very pleased with my piercing and the overall experience. As far as the rest of the shop.....well I like the stuff they have. read more

First off, the good stuff: If you like funky eye lashes, gothy t-shirts, and stripper boots, this is your place. I always enjoy looking at the make up and jewelry items. They have a good selection for being such a tiny store. Now the bad: Shittiest service on Hawthorne. I've been in about 5 times over the past couple of years. Each and every time NO ONE has greeted me when I entered the store. However, when I start to look around, the sales clerk shadows me as if I'm about to steal something. Now, I know that I'm fat, but that does not automatically make me a bad person. It also does not make me a shoplifter or mean that I am too stupid to figure out that if I want something I need to pay for it. This leads me to my next point: The prices are too effing high, especially when I can go down the street to Alteration Nation and get similar/better stuff at lower prices. Metro, I want to love you, but you make it so hard. Here's a thought: If you had a website, it would help you a lot. Customers could shop in peace and bypass the rude sales clerks. Both times I have been (once for a wig and once for makeup) they have been super friendly, helpful and gave really great advice! The salesperson even went a step further by testing out the makeup for me so I could see what I was actually buying. I'm very disappointed in my latest experience with Metro Boutique, it was my second time going in on 10/20/18. Between my combined visits I had spend a significant amount of money. There was one lady that had helped me quite a bit and I was thankful. Anywho, the way they have the store set up is that you have to check your bags-that was no biggie, and to try on costumes one of the employees has to take them out of the bag and you can't try on accessories with the actual costume. The area where you could try on costumes was very poorly lit and kind of awkward like people could see in through cracks of the fabric they used to like form the fitting rooms. The accessories had to stay in the bag behind the counter. So on the 20th I had tried on my costume and then gave my costume to the employee to put back in the bag. Since I had more shopping to do I had them hold my costume at the counter. Finally I had found everything and checked out and went home thinking I had my perfect Halloween costume and such. Anyways on 10/24/18 and I was like I should probably hang my costume up so the wrinkles can start to come out. I had not opened the costume at all since it was opened by one of the employees at Metro Boutique. I was very disappointed to have found that I was missing a vital element (a tie and collar) that was supposed to come with the costume. Immediately I called and was told by a male employee that they were going to do whatever it took to make it right, whether finding a new tie and collar or finding the one that went with my costume. Needless to say I was really sad and bummed, after spending over 60 bucks on a costume you would think you were going to get everything you paid for. Then the next morning I was looking closer at my costume and I noticed that the back part of the collar of my mostly white costume was not white it looked yellow and dirty. With better light I was able to see it. Which made it look like it had been either worn already or used. I thought I would have heard back from them on 10/25 and when I didn't I called back on 10/26 and explained the situation and how upset I was for spending that much money and to not have gotten all that I was expecting. The manager was basically like "people steal things, we can't be on top of everything, and therefore we aren't responsible" which is ridiculous because you are responsible for your product and what you sell others, especially if the customer is encouraged to not open the package themselves to check that everything is there. I also explained that I was hesitant to bring up but I figured it was important for them to know and was hoping they would have done something about the fact that the costume was dirty. They said it had been too long since I had bought it for them to do anything about it. I had bought it on 10/20. It was one day short of a week. I would be more understanding had it been longer than a week, and or the day before Halloween. The manager was very short, and not empathetic at all, and seemingly didn't want to really take responsibility for a product that wasn't in great condition. The manager said on the phone the most she could do was give me 10% back of the cost of the costume or I could do a exchange, but seeing as the costume I had bought was the last one and that there were no others that were close I opted for the 10% back. I was hoping when I went in and explained myself and showed pictures of the costume (I couldn't actually bring it with me because work and life.) she was not interested in seeing them. That she would have been empathetic and offered more than 10% for the trouble of coming in and that the product was not up to par but no she was very stone cold in person, and didn't seem to care in fact she seemed annoyed I had even mentioned anything and that I was bothering her. I did not expect to buy a used costume that was missing pieces. The costume was not marked used or that it was missing anything. It is not fair for customers that are spending a lot of money on costumes that are supposed to be new but are dirty, and then made to feel like it is their fault for the stores inability to check each costumes bag at checkout (or daily) because of their policy of having the employees handle the costumes when it comes to opening the packages (to try on, or look at). I will not be shopping there again, and it's sad because I like to support local businesses where I can, and I figured it would be better to go there than Spirit of halloween or amazon even. But I cannot in good conscience do business or spend money at a establishment that treats its customers that way. I am very bummed. read more

I was never really aware of what this store had in it or what their main focus was. I always just drove by on Hawthorne, would give it a glance and go about my day. Then along came a Groupon deal at the beginning of October for Metro and I opted to take part in this deal. On the inside is mainly lots and lots of costumes, tutus hanging from the ceiling, wigs in the back room along with sale items, tons of tights and stockings, and a good size amount of shoes to finish off your look....oh also can't forget that they do piercings here so they have an ample supply of body jewelry. The staff is very friendly and helpful, especially when your like me and get a little dumbfounded just trying to figure out exactly what I want. I came out with great success. Yes this store is perfect for Halloween but its great when your looking for that one item that the other stores just don't seem to carry. read more

It's a fun and safe place for people of all shapes, sizes, and genders to get flavorful with their fashion. I just stocked up for the Burn and find such a wide variety of great gear. They have cool and sexy costumes with reasonable price. However, I don't understand why they advertise on their sidewalk signs that they have "Wigs" in stock and turned out to be, they only have five different wigs on display. I came here with a mission to get a wig, I walked out with Neon Green false eyelashes which still spiked up my appearance for the 80's night. If you are looking for wigs, look elsewhere unless you can settle for one of five wigs they are selling here. read more

Honestly I just wanted a nose piercing. But I don't think I'll go back to get one since the ladies at the front desk are pretty snobby and treat you like you are wasting their time. To save some time I'm going to make this long story short... My boyfriend and I came in with our dog and they were very snobby from the get-go. Told us our puppy wasn't allowed in the place which is understandable. We left right after.. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt I returned about an hour later and they greeted me rudely and when asking again for the nose piercing they told me the guy who would do had just left for an emergency. I gave them my name and number and asked, what I thought was polite, whether they knew an estimated time of when he would most likely be back. (Note that I live in Gresham and it takes me 20-25 mins to get here) that way I know if I should just head home or stay around the area. The sales clerk obviously annoyed of my question turns to me and says "He had to leave because he had to take his son the hospital" Ok... First of all.. I asked whether he would be back or not. I did not ask "WHERE" or "WHY" he had left. These ladies do an amazing job of trying to make there costumers feel bad. And love to dumb people down. That was not my first time there either. I guess my first time here was my last time. On my first visit in August 2021 the customer service was excellent and I could try on whatever I liked. I left with a couple of items I liked. Today I read of being asked if I'd like help finding anything I was told "we have to hold all purses and bags at the register" that's when I said thank you I will leave. Metro is a fun place to visit. I was expecting better prices. They are competitive but not lower then their competition. You will find a large selection of fun costumes, accessories and other random stuff. The staff are very nice and helpful. I wasn't overwhelmed but the sexiness of their offerings or the uniqueness but it's nice to know they are there. Plus they carry some items from local artists which is always a good thing. read more

My cousin and I was out and about on Hawthorne and decided to pop into this little boutique to look at some items for Halloween. He ended up purchasing a cape and putting a mask on hold, he decided to go back and get the mask and when we walked in they immediately asked for my purse to check in behind the counter. I refused and informed them that I was just in there and it wasn't an issue then so why is it one now. They said it's company policy but I call BULLSHIT on that because there is no way that they are requesting every woman's purse. I will never shop here again. read more
