The one great thing about traveling by train is that you really don't need to be there until minutes before the train leaves unlike flying that requires you to go through TSA. I showed up 45 minutes before departure thinking they would open the train door 30 minutes before takeoff. They ended up opening the door 10 minutes before departure which was not enjoyable for all of us standing under the heat. It's very easy to get around here. Once you enter, there are lots of people ready to assist. The hallway leading to the platforms is only a couple minutes walk so even with luggage it's not that crazy. I highly recommend traveling by train to avoid traffic. Best of all, they do have WiFi so you can get work done.

A lot of people didn't know that you could actually take public transportation from the desert to the city, including myself. Found out that from Union Station, the connection hub with Amtrak will take you to Fullerton where you connect with the Surfliner Shuttle Bus which will take you all the way to Palm Springs with stops at Morongo, Downtown Palm Springs, the PSP Airport and lastly Palm Desert and Indian Wells. This main hub is the center to the city. Besides the Amtrak that departs and connects here, you have all the metro lines. Everything kind of ends here and connects to each other. Start here and you can get to Long Beach with the blue line, Santa Monica with the gold line, North Hollywood with the red, Pasadena also with the Gold and even LAX. Everything connects to each other and Union Station would probably be the main and sometimes the last stop. It's a nice station with some food stalls. The lobby waiting area is quite nice with the full train station vibe. Just outside, you have downtown LA to one side, Chinatown to the other and literally across the street, the fame Olvera Street. Train tracks are quite well organized. Schedule tends to be good with schedules showing on the boards that's scattered throughout the station. It's a nice station if you haven't been. A cool place to check out.

The other added bonus was we could bring our own adult beverages. It's a leisurely ride so cannot be in too much of a hurry. It's about an 11 hour ride and not all of it is pretty. Once you get out of the graffiti and farmland areas it's really nice. Glad we did it and personally I'd get a room if there's a next time. Liked the flexibility of being able to sit or lay down and have our own space. If not a room get there fast and get a spot on the observation lounge. Another great place is the cafe, which no one was sitting in. As for our lunch and dinner, I expected it to be airline quality, but it was better with table service. The Coast Starlight is the signature Amtrak ride on the west coast and offers spectacular views of the coast and mountains as you leave California. It is a reminder of life outside the city and a slow relaxing trip by yourself or with your significant others. We got a roomette which seems a bit cramped but it works. Some people might say it's a tight fit, it kind of is, but it's not really. Sleeper cars, roomette or actual room, include all meals and will have attendant service throughout. Sleeper cars are deemed first class. Or you can go coach for a lower fare. I recommend splurging on this. Our attendant Chris was very friendly and attentive with us and easy to talk to when needed. Food was really good and it's community seating, so if you're an introvert, be prepared to speak to strangers. Or lock yourself in your room. The viewing car is awesome and offers stunning forward throughout the journey. All in all, we really enjoyed it and want to do it again soon. We may look at other trips in the U.S. or Canada.

Your classic train experience with both business class and coach. Same concept as you would with a flight. Always wanted to experience it down to San Diego but this will do. Train itself has nice comfy seats which is a major plus with a long haul. Windows seats does have curtains which is nice to block out the sun or when your on an overnight. They also have outlets for electronics. Restroom is also available. Not sure if it's every car or every other. They do come and check your tickets while it's running. Don't think I've seen them check when you're getting on instead it's when the train is in motion. A snack cart is also offered. What's nice as well, they have both the lower and higher floors. A good amount of pros to be but you have the cons. I've been where there was something going on with the station or tracks and being delayed can be a bitch. Just takes one thing to happen and it hold everything back. This morning, something was going on with one of the tracks and train kept on getting delayed to an hour and forty five minutes. Ruined my schedule which I ended up having to get an uber from Fullerton station to Union Station in downtown. That's the risk you have to take with public transportation. But it does help as I didn't have to drive.

When I moved to Los Angeles, I adapted my diet to include healthier and "hippie" items. However, I was never really properly taught how to cook them. Not only did I learn some delicious healthy vegan dishes, but Briana took the time to work with me on the most basic of skills, like how to properly hold a knife and chop correctly. I know it sounds silly that my food preparation abilities were so lacking, but Briana was professional and patient as I caught up. I've carried my newfound skills and healthier food knowledge into my daily cooking. I feel much more informed both in shopping for ingredients as well as preparing dishes. And while the displays here focus on the positive aspects of the life of Sister Aimee and seem to shy away from some of her controversial possible romantic alliances and allegedly staged kidnapping, overall the Parsonage offers a beautiful look into the life, personality and ministry of a truly trailblazing female leader in the Los Angeles community. If you're not familiar with Sister Aimee, consider this: at one point one in ten Angelenos was a member of her church, the Angelus Temple. Not only that, she was a female leader in a time when women were not often accepted in that role and many denominations forbade women to lead in any capacity at all.
