For example, I took the van all summer from Arcadia (about 35 miles east of Westwood), and we left at 6:40 every morning and arrived on campus at 7:30. We left campus at 5pm and got home at 6pm. The bus drivers are nice, as are the other riders (everyone chats a little), and everyone's really responsible about letting others know their ride schedules and what days they plan to show up. If you ever need to ride to UCLA on a regular basis, this is absolutely the way to go. The "part time" tickets (basically one way pay-per-ride tickets) are a little expensive relative to the monthly fees, but still less expensive than the cost of gas. Plus, both rides are much faster than driving myself. This service is for responsible people. We have never been more than five minutes off schedule, so there is definitely no waiting around for people to come. Make sure you're on time! The only trouble right now is that there seems to be too few vans. I guess it's impossible for UCLA Transportation to have half-filled vans full of part time riders, but know that as a part time rider you're not always going to have a seat. It's best to check with the driver(s) the night before. And it gets really cold on the vans, which I love but understand that some people hate. All in all, love this service. It's perfect.

There's plenty of free designated Metro parking on weekends, which was a nice surprise. Just stay aware of your surroundings and try to ride in a car with other passengers -- I chose the one right behind the train operator, and it felt safe and comfortable. The ride to BMO Stadium took about 24 minutes, and the walk from the station was around 10 minutes. Take the path through the Rose Garden, pass the Natural History Museum and Memorial Coliseum -- BMO is just behind the California Science Center. I'd definitely take the train again from the Westside. The E (Expo) Line is a straight shot to BMO -- super easy and convenient. On the way back, there were plenty of other riders, so it still felt safe. If you don't already have a TAP card, you'll need to buy one from the machine before boarding. The fare is $1.75 each way, so expect to pay around $5.50 total including the card.

It's a small transfer station to catch the Big Blue Bus R12 towards Westwood and the UCLA campus. The station looks like any surface station, you can use your TAP card and pay your fare at the scanning machine. Then you walk onto the platform and wait for your train. The E Train runs often, with a train coming through about every 10-15 minutes during daytime hours. The estimate to get to and from this station after a transfer from L.A. Union Station is about 1 hour. To get to the Big Blue Bus bus stop, just walk past the tracks, cross the street at the light, and you can catch the bus there. A conveinent station for desinations to Westwood.

They run every day of the week from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Some places they go are: The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey Marina del Rey Marriott Hilton Garden Inn Los Angeles, Marina del Rey Cafe del Rey Whiskey Red's Fisherman's Village Waterside Washington Square/ Venice Pier Wish I knew about this sooner. I passed by it on my way to Santa Monica but never used it till recently when we had a friend visiting who was lodging in the area. He used this stop a lot. This is the Santa Monica line, we changed at 7th and Metro to get on it. It is above the ground, which is nice. The actual station is outdoors which is nice. Not the best views or layout, they could use more benches, more signs and more machines. But glad it's there. If you need to get to the area, it beats driving!

While the new driver set up his things and teasingly called out to the departing driver 'part timer'. The new driver begin pushing buttons, adjusting mirrors, his seat, and other. Sounds like a long drawn out process but actually we were on our way rather quickly. After a short time, while at a stop, the driver unbuckled his seat belt, opened the door and meticulously repositioned a mirror on the external of bus. At the next stop he did the same only this time he meticulously positioned things around his seat / work station. In that moment I thought to myself, 'I wonder is this guy meticulous about everything in life.' There were various other thoughts about this meticulous driver going through my mind but mostly in that moment the greatest feeling I felt was safe. If this driver was this meticulous about everything, even his water, I was convinced he too would be as meticulous and mindful about his driving. Thankfully, my inclination regarding the driver was on point. He turned out to be a very safe and conscientious driver. I enjoyed a very beautiful, scenic, (still new to the area) and safe ride. They are helpful and informative. They actually go above and beyond to keep passengers safe and get to your destination in a timely manner. This line takes you from UCLA all the way to the beach. I've ridden this line probably like a hundred times and had no problems with any of the people on the bus...they are quite friendly too! I also take my car every now and then and I have to say that the bus system is somewhat faster than driving your own car even during peak hours!
