AFFORDABLE, QUICK TRANSPORTATION! Although the maps can be a little confusing, the LA Metro's E Line is fairly convenient and accessible. I'd recommend Google mapping the locations of stations as they can be hidden underground and I've seen tourists easily get lost. Heck, I even struggle sometimes! The Metro's E Line fare must be paid in advance or else you won't be let onboard. It's not like other cities where you can easily slide your way in. I'd also recommend taking a friend with you for safety, it can get pretty quiet. Thankfully, I was with someone and the E Line's station was busy. I took a trip to Grand Central Market from my Moxy hotel near Crypto and only had to switch lines once. The entire trip was no more than 12 mins. read more

How would I know that soon after riding the new configuration of the E Line twice to sporting events near USC's campus and ultimately deciding that doing so is a better option than taking either an express bus or a combination of the C and J Lines from Metro's Norwalk Station, USC would drop Notre Dame as an annual football opponent, a truly cowardly move? So after getting comfortable with parking at Atlantic Station and riding the train to the Coliseum, I suddenly no longer need to do so in the near future, because you can bet I won't go to a USC game--especially at the Coliseum--if it's not against Notre Dame. The E Line is great, though. For those of you who don't know, the current E Line is a combination of the former Expo Line in almost its entirety and the Downtown-to-East L.A. portion of the former Gold Line. Metro dug some additional underground tunnels, joined the formerly separate train lines, and now you can travel from Atlantic Station in East L.A. to Downtown Santa Monica Station all on a single fare, without having to change trains. I've never traveled the entirety of the line, but I'm very familiar with the eastern portion. The E Line will become even more useful to me and my family in the future, too, because they plan to run it all the way to Whittier, across the street from the hospital where I was born. For now, it's still useful to me for King games at Staples Center. I've never actually taken it to one, but it's much less hectic to park in Atlantic Station's parking garage than it is to look for street parking downtown--I refuse to pay to park for King games--and the walk from the arena itself to Pico Station is short and direct. When you do ride this line from Atlantic through Exposition Park and back, it's really interesting just to see how many people board and off-board at seemingly random times. The train can go from full to the gills to almost empty in a few stops, only to fill back up two more stops down the line. In other words, a lot of people use the E Line for not only long hauls but to go short distances. It's truly a train line of and for the people. read more

The Metro E line also known as the Gold is an extensive connector that runs from East Los Angeles to Santa Monica. I've taken it many times before it's conversion from the former Expo/Light Blue line to concerts at Expo/USC, trips to, West Adams area, Culver City, Downtown L.A. as well as Downtown Santa Monica and Little Tokyo to name a few. It's easy, reliable and smooth. Being a light rail line that runs pretty much above ground on the surface you get some great scenic views. There are less carts than lines like the B/Red Line or D/Purple than run below, but a bit more frequency. It can fill up quite fast especially during the week and on some weekends, but never fills over capacity or like you can't get on and off with ease. And if you don't start with a seat readily available you may be able to find one that opens up before your reach your destination. The Metro Gold E - has some of the newest stops/stations/freshly renovated via Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill as well as Historic Broadway. There are some stations with parking available for commuters, but mostly on the westside and West L.A. area (Expo/Bundy, Expo/Sepulveda, Expo/Crenshaw, La Cienega/Jefferson, 17th/SMC), two stations offer parking in East L.A. also (Indiana and Maravilla). Like most metro trains its runs as early as 4:30 am but currently only until about midnight during the week, some extension on the weekends. read more

I love good public transportation and I hope our city can catch up with that! I was excited to take the Expo Line to Santa Monica to attend a cool event I got free tickets via Yelp. I like that the expo line goes outside and you can peek at other parts of the city while travelling to your destination. When we got on the train, they announced it goes to La Cienega/Jefferson, we were all confused, but we thought it was a mistake. When we stopped at that particular station we were told to get off the train since they lost electricity! So, we got off, went outside, looking for a shuttle to take us to Santa Monica. There was no shuttle and no one from Metro to guide people!!! I always said that Metro needs more people working for them to help passengers! So, folks started to call Uber, Lyft. We got a hold of somebody working for Metro who had no clue about the situation, called around and after a while told us to get back in the station, the trains were running again. But there were still people waiting downstairs, tourists, confused folks. Not the best way to handle it all. And the train also stopped at a station forever!!!! So we did get to our destination, but we were late. The Expo line is slow, so leave super early. I think it's a great way to get to certain parts of town but it needs to run better and faster. And have Metro people around to help passengers if there was an issue! Not my best experience riding the LA subway! read more

First off, kudos to the city for building this additional metro line. That being said, i had my first ride today and it fell far short of expectations. I realize the transient issue is hard to manage, but the metro has to fight to keep them off the trains or nobody else will use them. Ever again. Between the nasty smell of B.O. and stale cannabis, to the tons of bags the homeless riders take up several seats with in every car, the experience leaves a lot to be desired. Not to mention the riders who bring on bicycles preventing safe movement. The Metro needs to dispatch police to enforce the rules and regulations and laws. ALSO - there was absolutely no AC in any Metro car so everyone was suffering the entire ride. And ALMOST none of the escalators were working in any of the stations. And Finally, how the LA METRO does not have any digital boards showing when the next trains are arriving like every other major city. The bottom line is that either someone steps in to fix these issues or the METRO continues to die a slow death. read more

Day three of commuting to/from Culver City to DTLA has been easy, breezy, chill. Well, except maybe the confusion with commuters departing from the 7th & Metro station in DTLA. I can see how confusing the BLUE line is to the EXPO line, which is TURQUOISE. Of the MANY colors out there, the Expo had to share the same track with similar shade of blue?! Why not yellow? Anyways, with a stressful workweek - the last thing I need is to commute in the horrid traffic. The Expo line commute has me chillaxin, listening to my playlist, while viewing the Los Angeles city streets. It's about damn time this city upped their public transportation. read more

A green Los Angeles! My friends and I took the new Metro Expo Line twice this past week from the La Cienega / Jefferson Station. I like the expo line because it takes you from Culver City to Downtown Los Angeles in less than thirty minutes. They are currently working on extending the line from Santa Monica to DTLA so it would be even better! It's pretty easy to connect to the other lines from the Expo Line, but the connections aren't until you reach either Jefferson/USC or 7th Street Metro Center in DTLA. What I like about the Expo Line is that it's new (although the rail running on it is old and dirty... I found a roach on the seat in front of me!), I like that it takes you to all the great spots where you need to be: The California Science Center, The Rose Garden, The Natural History Museum, USC, Staples Center, and The LA Convention Center to name a few. The first time I took the Expo Line, I transferred to another line just one stop away to visit DTLA Artwalk! Each time I have been on it, there weren't too many people on it. BTW, you need to purchase a Tap Card to get on to the Metro Rail line ($1) and each trip is $1.50! read more

Though the scenery when going westbound to (what will be) Culver City is not the greatest, I really, really cannot complain, especially since this Metro Line stops right at my school! The La Cienega stop is a short walk from Target and the Culver City stop is a new destination that gives carless USC students a whole new area of Los Angeles to explore!! Affordable, quick and easy. Yay! Finally a westside extension of the metro rail! I can't wait til they finish 'part 2' extending to Santa Monica. Along with the review. The parking lot is free but has anorexic parking spots. If I were to park my truck I would for sure get dents and scratches. The only thing that did bother me was the elevator, takes forever and does not connect to the parking lot, obviously because the rail is double sided. The rails usually take the max 10 mins during rush hour but whenever I take it, I wait about 5 mins. There's not much of seating. Usually some people taking it, but whenever I get on towards downtown LA. There's never really much people using this rail since it stops at La Cienega, if the extension to Santa Monica were to open I'm sure this would be busy like the red line and purple line. read more

Metro E Line - La Brea/Exposition - Public Transportation Near Me - Los Angeles, California

The Expo Line has completely revolutionized the way I approach intra-LA travel! Getting from Santa Monica to almost anywhere else in town by car is always a crap shoot. You get good at listening to podcasts, texting while driving (terrible, I know), contributing to rush hour, and sucking up gas. Heading to Downtown on a Friday night? Add crazy parking fees as the cherry on top. Our discovery of the Expo Line gets rid of the hassle and--in a weird way--makes Los Angeles feel much smaller. Christina Y. and I went to Downtown's Mo-Chica with a couple of other friends in mid-February. I probably irritated the hell out everyone with constant geeking out over how convenient this was and exhortations like "I can't believe we're in LA!" and "This feels like Boston!" I hit the Metro again last weekend with a buddy, this time with bikes in tow. We spent a lazy Sunday experiencing the Arts District in ways that just would have been much more difficult via car. The one thing to note is that you won't be saving all that much time unless you're traveling during peak freeway gridlock hours. It takes about 50 minutes to get from the Culver City stop to Downtown's 7th St. The upside, of course, is that you get all that time to do things you can't do in the car: read, text safely, tap dance, whatever. read more

Arriving back at Culver City Station from downtown, we had our hands full with the Chinese food and Cherries, so we took a pass on going to See's Candy Factory, it was also just past 5 p.m. anyway. We needed to change to either the Metro #33 local or #733 Express west to Overland on Venice Blvd. Unfortunately, you have to walk from the rail station about 1 1/2 blocks north and cross the always very busy Blvd. There are still no signs to guide you out of the station to the Metro bus stops, east or west bound. While on the platform there are signs with arrows directing you towards the three different bus companies serving the station, even better would be schedule boards for the 10 bus routes serving this station on the platform and ground level. Went on opening day of the Expo Line and I am thus far quite happy with the service. I don't live near the corridor, but I will say that I am pleased to see that riders on the West Side now have an easier time getting Downtown. Heads up to riders who go beyond USC, the ride is a bit slow going up Flower St. In the end, however, it is definitely quicker than taking the bus on the street. Love the Expo Line! Now you can get from the Westside to Staples in less than 30 minutes at the Pico station. Just be careful when you're at the Pico station trying to catch the next train out - both the Blue line and Expo line use the same platform. read more

I've taken the Expo line several times and I love it. It runs every 12 minutes, pretty much all day. The employees are pretty helpful in directing you in the right directions since the Blue and Expo line are similar colors and run on the same track leaving the 7th/Metro station. Now I can stay in DTLA as late as I need to without having to worrying about figuring out the bus schedule going back to Culver City. read more

With the unfortunate luck that our new location has no parking lot, but the Metro Station near by I decided to start taking the Metro more often. I've been ridding the Expoline since it opened in Culver City and I'm a bit concerned about my future rides. Metro needs to have real people to help monitor the cars. I had the most uncomfortable ride with somone who was blasting his rap music, with signs that show no music. I asked him if he could turn it down and he glared at me and said why? I said I had sensitive hearing and it hurt. Next a homeless guy with all his things came and sat near and I couldn't believe how bad he smelled. Next stop, I moved to another car. The last time I rode the Blue Line to Long Beach I decided I couldn't do that again, it was really uncomfortable with excessive noise from music and rude people. Possibly a person (conductor) would help keep it sane. read more

I was excited to hear the Expo Line finally opened. I scanned line's time table and it says it leaves every TEN MINUTES give or take... If i take the 7:47 AM or 7:59 AM from the La Cienega/Jefferson station, I'll be in Downtown LA BEFORE 8:30 AM! LIARS! I know it's a new line. Why tell us it's open. This is a soft opening, they're working out their kinks. I've been late to work EVERY DAY I've taken the Expo Line. I may save on gas and parking but I'm late for work, I'm not relaxed as you claimed I would be when I reach my destination. The real world doesn't take "Expo Line Issues" as an excuse. Shame on you Metro. I want my tax dollars back. read more

This is awesome. The train was on time, clean (as was the station), and the announcements were clear and loud enough to be heard and understood. The ride was smooth and is only 14 minutes from my entrance to my exit. My two issues: 1) There is no "round trip" ticket option. This forces you to either buy a day pass for $5.00 or to buy your return trip when you come back. The problem with the former is that each way is only $1.50, so why pay $5.00? Buying the return on the way back is fine unless you are running late and need to just hop on the train. Overall, though, this a great addition to the Los Angeles transportation scene and I'm glad it's open and working well. read more

Finally! LA has a way metro that takes us to Staples Center, DTLA, Little Tokyo, K-town, Pasadena, Hollywood from Westside and avoids traffic. Santa Monica will be connected est 2016. Lots of colorful characters though. Last time I rode somebody lit up a doobie right behind me, although he gleefully apologized to those around him who may have been offended. But the train is quick and reliable and gets you through traffic on time. read more

This is an ideal Southern California train station. Amenities nearby include: covered park-and-ride structure, Starbucks, a bike path, See's Candy. The tracks are modern and smooth. Neat view from the overpass. The only downside is during cold/windy/rainy weather there is not much shelter. read more

I use this train when I feel like going to downtown. It only takes half an hour. Much better than driving and having to worry about gas. This line also connects you to USC and the museums in the area. read more

The Metro is awesome. Since it's opening I have had the pleasure to ride it almost every weekend. Downtown is now more accessible than ever. The Natural History Museum, Coliseum, Exposition Park Rose Garden ,USC, and now the Space Shuttle at the Science Center. It's easy, and cheap. read more

it is supper slow from culver city to dtla takes 45 min no wonder that we don't have a good public transit for me it takes less time even in traffic to get to my work rather than getting metro line I don't get it with all technology and gadget stuff how they can not figure out how to sync all traffic lights that the train should not stop at intersection and goes smoothly anyways i will give a shoot about month later to see if they did any progress to fixing the delays some times stops at station for 10 min I don't get it read more

I ride metro rail from Pasadena to Culver City and return daily which has been a benefit saving gas and avoiding traffic, although There are issues. First the total time arriving in culver city is about one hour in the morning, but twice as long in the afternoon. The Expo line is required to stop for traffic lights after passing USC traveling to the metro LA station. Traffic lights should be timed to favor trains instead of cars. On the Expo Line there sounds a high pitched buzzer when doors close which is very annoying. I will most likely continue to ride metro rail hoping these improvements are considered. read more

I took the Expo Line train from the 7th St. station downtown LA (transferring from the red line) with my 8 yo son on Sunday. Both the blue line and expo line leave from the same platform at the 7th street station (even though the sign says platform 2). When the train came, we didn't know if it was the blue line or expo line. And we weren't crazy or stupid for not knowing either because we saw many people running around, jumping on and off the train trying to figure out which train it was. There was NO signage...how dumb! Well, we found a sheriff who let us know it was the Expo line...we jumped on just in time and traveled to the Expo station, which is right in front of the California Science Center - our destination. It's an easy walk across the street to the Science Center and we were there...much better than driving and parking!! We paid $5 each for my 8 yo and me for all-day train tickets (you can also get one way, one train tix for $1.50) Since we needed to transfer from the red line to the expo line, we got the all day tickets to save a little money. The train is really nice and clean....for now....but give it a few months and it will have graffiti just like the others. read more
