Dean is a true gentlemen and one of the hardest working guys in Cleveland. His knowledge is encyclopedic, and he truly cares about his clientele and the lumber inside of the neighborhood trees. The finest hardwoods at an unbelievable price. I once stuffed my car to the brim with Hickory, Cherry, Box Elder, Cottonwood, Black Walnut etc for 75$. When I drove away I was shocked how much I got. Dean truly cares and he works his bones off to make friends with you and give you a crazy good deal on some beautiful hardwood that you CANNOT buy in stores. Make a friend, support true Clevelanders and go meet Dean. A hidden gem; and if I could give a Yelp review gold star to one person of all the places I have reviewed, I'd give it to Dean Heidelberg of Metro Hardwoods. Dean perfectly illustrates that mix of inspiration, humility, and stubborn insistence on making the most of what's around that makes Cleveland a magical place for me. He's a unique guy. I think he works 72-hour shifts or some madness. He's likeable and trustworthy, and he clearly cares about his craft. The warehouse is similar to so many Cleveland places: it's a big boxy building with an unwelcoming, squeaky-hinged door that opens into a vast storeroom of logs, lumber, and dreams-in-progress stacked from floor to distant ceiling. Off to the side is a climate-controlled room where the dried and cut boards are stored, and where Dean's handiwork shines. None of the trees in Dean's warehouse were chopped down for lumber, but he's claimed them in the spirit of the rough city and turned them into something of value. Run your hand over the smooth grains and question our society's decision to label one thing waste and another commodity. Then, open your wallet just wide enough to buy a thick slab of mable that'll make a beautiful countertop, table, or whatever you can imagine. read more

This place is glorious. They take trees that would otherwise be reduced to chips and turn them into fantastic slabs/boards. Dean, the saw master, really likes interesting grains in wood. He's also great to talk with. He also sells his work for seriously reasonable prices. Go and check it out. I had no idea how huge the place is and how much super quality lumber they make until stepping foot in the saw mill. Again, amazing prices too. read more

Could not fulfill my order due to facility problems and advised me to find another source. Therefore, I cannot recommend this place to anyone who wants a job done in a timely and efficient manner. Didn't respond to my voicemail and emails after meeting with Dean in person and placing an order. Their prices were reasonable... and that's why they get one star. But you can't sell a product that you are unable to produce. Stay away from this place and avoid the stress. read more
