This place is an invaluable resource in Lakewood because our old homes often have special needs and the staff here are familiar with all the quirks, oddities and non-standard issues we run into with a 100+ y/o house. Just try finding a radiator key at one of the big home centers. Actually, don't - because they won't have any. Go to Lakewood Hardware instead. They're always quick to help as soon as you walk in the store (which I appreciate because I feel uncomfortable blindly looking around for something in a hardware store). Sometimes I know exactly what I need but have no idea where to find it. Other times, I just know I have a particular problem without a clue what to do about it, and I can rely on them to help me figure out how to solve it. read more

Went in to buy new florescent light bulbs that I know NOTHING about! The staff were so nice and FAST , they looked at the bulb I brought in and ensured that I was buying the correct type. Lakewood Hardware knows exactly what you need when you walk in the door. Let me know if the staff at the big box stores remember your name when you walk in. These guys and gals know their stuff, and they freely pass on that knowledge. Think about it: most of the homes in this city are about 100 years old or older. We recently had one storm window break and a couple others off the track on my family's old house in Lakewood. We initially looked on Home Advisor referral service for a handyman but couldn't even get anybody to answer our calls, maybe because it was a small job. I also kept getting online referrals to a big glass replacement chain who I did not want to use because I'd used them before for an auto glass replacement and their process, which involved several call centers in different states and a local referral, was really weird and involved. In desperation we called Lakewood Hardware. They were friendly on the phone, and referred us to a local handyman who was able to remove the broken window, take it to Lakewood Hardware for a glass replacement, and then get it and the other windows back on the proper track, all at a reasonable price. This whole process did take a a few weeks of coordinating schedules, but bottom line is Lakewood Hardware helped us where other referral services didn't, the guy they sent us to returned phone calls, and the window situation is now resolved. I would use Lakewood Hardware's services again. read more

Staff knows Lakewood housing and yards and are happy to help guide you through any project. They carry Benjamin Moore paint. I thought paint was paint until I used this stuff - for exterior work it can revitalize and strengthen old, neglected wood. I save money shopping here because I only buy what I need for the job and get exactly what I need to do it right. They also help with crafty artistic projects and you can see by how they do the windows and displays that they pay attention to detail. read more

Every time I go there something doesn't work or they don't have it none of my keys made worked garden hose I bought had a slit in it several areas Go to Home Depot worth the extra drive asked for some plumbing valves for a toilet gave me a sink valve was in such a hurry forgot to look at it never returned anything was so aggravated my brand new garden hose look like a sprinkler system they could do a lot better to be local and convenient read more

Had a Rustoleum product that I couldn't find at Lowes, Home Depot, or Walmart. I called ahead and they checked to make sure it was in stock. When I came to pick it up, they gave me a recommendation on an alternative that they did not have in stock but then told me where to get it and for the approximate cost. They took their time to explain the pro's and con's to both the Rustoleum product and their recommended product. I appreciate the time they gave me and their honesty! read more

I realize that with a move towards online ordering (where people are even ordering their toilet paper to be delivered to their door), it's hard to find good stores with good customer service like they have right around town. I love Lakewood Hardware because they are a classic feel with everything you need. I look forward to each visit because I know I won't need to run around to find a washer or screw. Lakewood Hardware is usually my first choice over the big box stores. All of the staff are friendly and helpful with locating unusual replacement parts, nuts and bolts, etc. The parking situation isn't the best, but I can't remember ever being unable to find a place to park. Helpful and attentive staff make selections easy BUT recently a staffer charged me and gave me a paid receipt for an item to be worked on. When I returned to retrieve it, I was informed the original receipt was wrong and I had to pay almost three times that amount. A consumer should not be held responsible for the mistakes of staff. I would have appreciated at least an accommodation for my financial inconvenience. So it's back to HD, though I try to support neighborhood businesses. read more
