I decided to use Metro moving after seeing so many positive reviews. Initially things went well - 4 movers, arrived on time.. and began the job. We rented the biggest truck they had....and when it was about 3/4 full, the movers decided the "truck was full" and they were going to take over what they had to the new place to unload and come back for the remainder. However, once unloading our furniture - they determined it was too late to go back and get the remainder. They'd have to come back the following day. I wasn't thrilled with this news but was sympathetic due to the immense August heat. I tipped the 4 guys $100. , which the head mover stuck in his pocket. I was aware that sometimes tips doesn't materialize to all workers, but the remainder were already in the truck and I felt it was thier business not mine. Day 2 - Only 2 guys showed up out of 4 movers. These men were small. One man was a return from the previous day and from the moment he stepped in the house he began talking about how they survived on tips. I let it go at first,... but it was constant... along with complaining at the weight of our furniture. At one point, they told me that they'd have to come back a 3rd day to get the remaining armoire off the truck b/c it was just too heavy. It was at this point,... I told them that a 3rd day of moving was unacceptable, not happening and that my husband would go out there and help them get it in the house. More complaining - the drama was unbelievable. After helping them w/the armoire the complaining continued and my husband finally asked them what was the issue? We had tipped them generously yesterday and their salary issues weren't our problem. It was then, the guy from the previous day stated they were told we hadn't tipped. Furious at this news, the workers and my husband called the office and it was revealed that yes, we had tipped them $100. but "they didn't have change" so they didn't distribute the money... but they were going to. I could have believed the story had the men at least been told about the tip. But they weren't and that was sketchy and left them unmotivated and working as slow as possible. I called the office manager the followiing day about the now $1800. it cost us to move a mile away. The second day was of course $600 b/c it took them so long to load and unload. Griping that much slows down productivity. I told the office manager that I would like a partial refund b/c the slowness and unwillingness of the guys to work cost us a lot of extra money. The manager said she'd talk with the owner and get back to me about a partial refund. Again, that was in August. I never heard from the office manager or anyone again from Metro Movers. Be very aware if you decide to use this shiesty company. Very aware. And have extra money laying around to pay for the additional days your move can take. And if you tip - tip in front of everyone because it otherwise goes in management's pockets. Shiesty. Shameful and unprofessional. read more

Here we go again... another move. You'd think I'd be a pro at this by now... Cost of three guys plus a 26 foot truck? 120/hr. Cost of three moving guys searching for and rescuing your mischievous escape artist cat who is not allowed outdoors: Priceless. It can't get any better than this. 10 Yelp stars, OK? TEN!!!!!!! I'm thoroughly impressed with the quality, care and overall friendliness of the movers (two of whom remembered me from last year when I hired them to unload my Uhaul). So yet again, I'll say they accomplish what you want movers to do: get your stuff safely and quickly from one place to the next. That alone is worth the five stars. But, Metro Moving goes above and beyond your typical customer satisfaction. My eldercat, Iphy, has not been allowed out since her days of lounging in my Brooklyn backyard. I just haven't lived anywhere that had a secure enough fence or walls, and i know she's an escape artist (she once scaled a 15 foot brick wall). And she cannot hold her own against the fierce gang of felines that own tha' streets. So yesterday, she took the opportunity to sneak out as the guys were lifting and moving the cumbersome washer/dryer out the back door. Minutes later, we realize she's under the house. And so, all three moving guys are on the hunt under the house with a flashlight, but somehow yet again, she's gone. So we go on a hunt throughout the neighbors' yards and crawlspaces and then, luckily, one of them spotted her two yards behind. I couldn't see her, but he swore it was her. Another guy volunteered to climb over the fence and retrieve her, only she had disappeared again. Are you feeling my frustration too? It seemed doubtful that I was going to be able to move, because I wasn't leaving without my cat! Thanks to the movers' awesomeness and refusal to give up, a cranky Iphy was finally placed in my arms. Seriously. All one can do (besides making sure a generous gratuity was given to all) is spread the word. Hence, Yelp. This is *the* moving company to use in New Orleans. As to your reply, Anthony, I wasn't making a big deal about the scratches on the dresser. But, whether or not your company packed it should not have an effect of if the movers drag it up stairs or clear the stairs. As to the TV, if I knew the tvs were coming up screen toward the body, I would have draped a towel over it so it didn't get wet. As it was, I turned around and they were already in the apartment with the tvs. I felt I gave a pretty decent review to your company, my main dissatisfaction being getting here late, getting here really worn out from a previous (pack and unpack) job, and losing one of the movers mid-move. It was my first time hiring movers, having moved myself with friends and relatives 5 or 6 times over 30+ years without incident. The main thing I learned is to not be 2nd on the list for movers. I would hire you guys again, for a pack and unpack, and your guys were polite and good workers. read more

Crew of three handled my second move with grace and flair. They had no issue with doggies or kiddos- and were quick to choose the correct side (the lady's) to prevent any argument that could have arisen. This was quite easily the simplest move I have ever had (thanks to a Lil to planning) and definitely because paying (skilled) people to carry heavy things is the smarterer option. My movers were super professional and hugely courteous. They didn't mind me stopping them to dust and there was never a moment when handling my dainties where I had a flutter of caution. They were also surprised when I offered them lunch. I'd hire again- you should too. read more

We used them to move in August 2017. The move had two stops but it ended up being a much longer day than it should've been. They should've had another person, particularly since it was a very hot day in August. That said the move day mostly went off without a hitch. Except that they damaged my dining room table and one of the chairs because they were extremely careless with how they wrapped the furniture. Yes, a wooden table needs a furniture pad. This should not surprise anyone. The owner (Dana) was pretty responsive about this. For a while. Then it sort of dropped off her radar and I didn't hear from her for weeks. Now it's been three months and they haven't fixed the damage or compensated me for it. I feel like I'm annoying her when I call. Today was the last straw. Someone was supposed to show up and no one did. No phone call either. No explanation. I would not recommend using these folks until they can figure out how to deal with problems afterwards. My wife and I were moving to New Orleans, and really didn't feel like unloading our stuff into our new house. We called up Metro Moving on Monday, and they were more than happy to send guys out to unload the trailer on Wednesday. The office manager I spoke with was super nice and friendly. We had a blowout on the trailer coming off the Causeway on the day of the move, and were going to be running about 30 minutes late. I called up Metro, they were completely understanding, and said they would let the guys know to hold off for a little while. These movers were worth every penny. They were polite, courteous and on time. They treated every item we had as if it were theirs and never stopped working the entire time. They were done unloading our entire two bedroom house within two hours, which is roughly the time we were quoted. They even went through the trouble of wrapping our doorframe with a pad so it didn't get dinged or scratched, which I thought was great. Not one scratch was left on the hardwood floors either! These guys were great from start to finish. The lady who took my information on the phone was pleasant and professional. Since I was moving from one apartment unit to another in the same complex, we weren't sure if they were going to need to bring their truck. They actually stopped by the apartment building the day before I moved to figure out the logistics. Moving day came and the guys showed up exactly on time and well prepared. They were friendly and professional. They moved my furniture without a hitch and even reassembled it. I decided that I would hire someone to move me the short 8 miles up the road rather than enlist the help of the Marines at work. I thought it would be easier and much more reliable. I was right. They were on time and very efficient. They came equipped and asked questions about what was going in their truck and what wasn't the whole time. I didn't have too much stuff. The whole move including the commute and time I had to waste in the office at my new place, amounted to three hours. They were conscience about saving me money. This really pleased me. So many companies try to get everything they can out of you. I will totally recommend them to others in the future. I chose Metro to move me and my daughter (from one apartment in Metairie to another in Metairie) based on Yelp reviews. In my fantasy, they were going to be just as good as the movers I had in Seattle who literally ran any time they were not carrying something -- including upstairs, downstairs and up the truck ramp. The lady on the phone was very nice and informative. I agreed to the terms and requested four men. Four would cost a little more, but I believed it would get done a lot faster, which is worth the cost. At first, my goal was to have them move only the big items and for that two hours seemed doable. Then I decided I simply could not haul all those boxes up stairs, so figured in another hour. Give or take, three hours was the goal. Pros: The guys were on time, they were well-mannered, polite, friendly and likable. They were very careful and took extra care with furniture I pointed out that was very fragile for sentimental reasons. Nothing was broken. Nothing was scratched. Cons: Overall, they were incredibly slow and did not seem at all concerned with the time. Moving furniture is hard work -- even harder when trying to conserve minutes for the customer. These men worked at just above a leisurely pace, with zero sense of urgency, the entire day -- yes, I said entire day. Couple of examples: It took at least 10 minutes to figure out how to get a couch over a standard stair railing. The front door had to be removed to get the fridge in. The hinge pins didn't want to budge and they did not have any tools to get the job done. It seems like movers would expect the possibility of having to remove doors. I kid you not, it took 30 minutes and a borrowed hammer just to remove the hinge pins and get moving again. There is a standard $70 fuel surcharge. I agreed to it, but I felt like I was robbed when I figured out from their home base, to my first apartment, second apartment and back to home base was not more than 7 miles total. There were roughly 17 or so pieces of medium to heavy furniture between me and my daughter, lots of boxes and a good bit of miscellaneous stuff. I mentally adjusted the timing and thought it may take 4 to 4 1/2 hours instead of 3. When all was said and done, it took these guys SEVEN hours. Between the fuel, the hourly rate of $160, the tax, and what ended up having to be a modest tip, I kissed 14 HUNDRED dollars good-bye on a job that I believe could have been done a lot faster and for several hundred dollars less. Bottom line: They are great guys. They are very careful. If time and money are not relevant to your move, I highly recommend Metro. If both of those things do matter to you, I think you can find other movers who work faster and harder to keep the customer's cost to a minimum. read more

I utilized the packing service and movers and I couldn't be happier with this company and both the services I received. The guys just moved me and my dust bunnies today. They're prompt, professional, extremely thorough, and very courteous. They didn't even take any breaks and made sure I was happy with every step. They also didn't judge me on my dust, which I appreciate. :-) I highly recommend this company if you care about your household items and want a thorough job by professionals. Also- they didn't just unload my stuff and say "Okay! Pay up, peace out!" No, they set up everything like it was supposed to be, even arranged my porch furniture. I have used Metro twice - the first time in 2012, and the second time just yesterday. Both times they were excellent! They took great care of my things, were pleasant and professional. Everything went without a hitch. The crew who moved me yesterday worked fast but were also very careful and thoughtful - I never worried for a second about how they handled the furniture/art/mirrors. To say that the last month of the home buying process was stressful would be one of the biggest understatements ever made. Thank God I went to Yelp to find movers! Metro Movers are a great company. I feel like I had a relationship with Dana when it was all over. Due to my closing date changes, my moving date also kept changing (I think it was three or four times!) Dana was always very patient with me and tried to find an available date closest to the one I wanted or needed. They used a three man moving crew who worked diligently throughout the day. They were very friendly and good problem solvers with some of my bigger items that were a pain to get up to the third floor. They offered to put the bed frames together and unwrap the bigger items. OMG!!!!!! These guys rock. They took care of everything. I had my boxes packed so after loading them they were ready for the extremely heavy armoires. Not a scratch anywhere. Then when they were moving into the new place they asked were each and every item went. Lowerline St is very tight with cars. They had NO issues with the truck. They were very friendly, and helpful. They even had a good sense of humor which I needed to ease the stress. I will NEVER use anyone else. There prices are on point. I bow to the excellence that is Metro Movers. Moving is tough. When I moved to Florida a couple of months ago, I was dreading packing and moving all of my stuff. I called Metro to get an estimate and spoke with Dana in the office, and right away, I knew this was the company for me. Dana gave me so much helpful advice about the fastest way to pack my things, and even told me they offer a service to pack my stuff for me! Unbelievable! Even though I ended up packing a lot on my own, her advice about how to pack properly in order to have a fast move was priceless. When the movers arrived ahead of schedule by a couple of minutes, I was pleasantly surprised. These guys were top of the line. They were efficient. This is of utter importance in a service like moving where the rate is hourly. They were clean and well spoken, all of them were college graduates or in college. They clearly knew what they were doing and were faster than I thought. They loaded up my three bedroom home in less than two hours!!!! It was amazing. I had a terrific experience with these guys. I booked several weeks in advance, and the woman at the office, Dana, was exceedingly helpful in setting up a time for my fiancée and I to move. Long story short, we moved from separate apartments into the same apartment the day after New Year's. The crew was terrific; they showed up on time, and they were fast and professional. Considering you pay by the hour, I might have expected them to ride the clock, but they finished packing up more quickly than they said they would, and if not for the fact they had to hoist a king size mattress onto a second floor balcony to get it in our new place, they would have finished in less than two hours.
