I had booked online reservations 7 days in advance, clicking on the 'Book A Table' button on the Afternoon tea link on the Willcox Inn website which took me to Resy Open Table page. The times showing supposedly for afternoon tea was 12, 12:30 and 12:45, so I chose 12:45 and typed in the note box specifying that this is for Afternoon Tea. It gave me the reservation time and sent an email confirming. I then CALLED Willcox Inn to confirm the date, time, number in party for AFTERNOON TEA, telling the lady who took my call that I was calling to confirm afternoon tea time for 4. The lady confirmed she had me down and repeated the details. So two sources confirmed an afternoon tea request, online and human. When I arrived at the dining room of the Willcox today at 12:05pm, early, I was told they only serve tea after 3pm. I was very upset, especially when it was the restaurant's fault for NOT specifying on the afternoon tea page that tea was only available after 3pm. We were told there was nothing they could do and they apologized. My friends and I had traveled from Evans, GA, forty-five minutes away to be told 'sorry, no tea', after I had confirmation from two sources. To make matters worse, we were told there were no tea foods, no scones, no tea sandwiches that could be served to us at 12:30 when everything would be available a few hours later at 3pm. The chef even came to our table to coldly state she could not prepare any scones as she had to feed other diners. The very least a manager could have offered to guests who had traveled distance and were denied what they were given confirmation for, was to comp a meal, and provide an explanation of errors on their website. I will never return to this establishment because they simply do not care about their customers. With today's use of social media, everyone is a reviewer. And this restaurant failed in providing good customer service, and failed in attempting to correct inaccuracies due to their negligence in advertising correct times for afternoon tea. Anyone who booked afternoon tea through this page should have their reservations honored, despite the restaurant's negligence. I do not recommend this restaurant.

The main complaint is nothing that they can correct - the park is located directly on US-1 and on a hill. There is a good amount of highway noise during the daylight hours, particularly from the trucks using their transmissions as brakes. Loud. So, the day we are set to arrive, the "manager" (I will get to that whole thing later) informs us that there will be no breakfast provided all weekend. Huh? Isn't this advertised as a Bed & Breakfast??? First red flag. Upon arriving, we pull up to an empty, abandoned looking house. When I say empty, there was NO ONE on site. No guests, no staff and not a single car in the parking lot. Very telling. We enter (via unlocking the door with text instructions) and put our personal items in our room. We were a bit surprised to see other "guests" in our room in the form of small bugs crawling on the wall. Being the ever optimist, I tried to think positive and told myself the staff would be arriving later. Not as such. We decide to go to Aiken to have a happy hour drink and return to the inn after that. When we got back it was pitch black outside and the inn had no lights on outside or inside. Creepy. So we walked around the huge place turning on lights so we could find our way upstairs. This was straight out of a horror movie. I was going to relax and watch tv while my partner got ready to go out to dinner. I attempted to turn on the tv, which was a whole 15 inches, and it didn't work. So, I called management, not on site and not local apparently, and they asked me to check the cable box. Excuse me? At almost $400 a night, one would expect a working appliance. This manager informed me there was no handyman and said there were instruction booklets by the tv for me to read and figure it out. Seriously? At this point it was almost comical just how bad this was. By now, we had enough and left and stayed somewhere else for the weekend, which was the same price as Annie's but beautiful, fun and actually had human beings present and good food also! To add insult to injury, the owner contacted us 2 weeks later as we requested a full refund and assured us that our money would be returned. That was about 4 weeks ago and not a penny has been refunded. She has been giving us the runaround. At this point, we realize that we aren't going to get any type of refund from her. What a disappointment from what is supposed to be Southern charm and hospitality. Beware!

The grounds and accommodations are absolutely beautiful. The host were so friendly and accommodating. On the first day they asked when we would like breakfast and had a great breakfast ready each morning before we set out on the day's adventures. It is also so well located. It is in a small rural community; however, we were in downtown Aiken in about 15 minutes. Greenville and Charleston are both about two hours away and easy day trips. Augusta is about 30 minutes away and Columbia is a little further in the opposite direction. So much is within reach while staying is such a tranquil location. This place is a must if you are looking to book a place to stay in the Aiken area!
