Total enjoyment. That describes my experience at the oldest continuous running tavern in Kentucky. The folks that work, there are extremely pleasant and capable. The tavern has an ambience that you expect for one of that age. This place is the real thing. A neighborhood spot that people of all ages can drop in and have some really good food at a decent price. They have a window that you can order ahead and pick up. I thoroughly enjoyed my cold beer and pork tenderloin sandwich. The slaw was delicious and different. My friend had the Coney dog. She absolutely loved it and said she dreamed about it the next week. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. read more

Wow, there was such a change from the first visit. The Metzger's ale tasted old and had the dusky background taste of pond water, and I didn't finish it (strange for me). The food was okay. Not to be too picky, but the menus are well worn and greasy, as were the table, chairs, and sticky floor. The service was a bit surprised at a lunch rush, and the guys doing the cooking needed a hairnet and in lounge wear, appeared to be in the throes of an epiphany that a long-term position as a short-order cook is not tenable. The small things are catching up with them, and they may need to take a day and reassess some shortcomings. I'm optimistic that they will succeed, attention to detail and process development in the first year is crucial. read more

When we lived here years ago this was the go to place for chili. Now...it tasted like canned chili. And it was so thick my spoon stood up. Yuck!!! Service was good though and it still had the same friendly atmosphere. read more

Just moved here from south Louisiana and I'm trying everything local that's not served back home. I went for lunch and tried the fried bologna sandwich and Cajun fries. I'm still learning what is "Cajun" up here, but the sandwich was really tasty. I would have never ordered this back home, but definitely wasn't disappointed. Now I want to go back and try several other things on the menu. Cozy little place that fills up quickly for lunch. Love the building, from the outside painted brick to the inside with the down-home feel. The staff was great. I wasn't even sure who was our person because they were all helping each other out. We stopped in on a road trip and ate picnic style in the parking lot. Kids had grilled cheese, husband had fried bologna, and I had the grilled chicken sandwich. I loved adding my own toppings- the ghost pepper bacon jam was right up my alley. Fries were fresh, the beer cheese was outstanding, and everyone enjoyed their sandwich. Only reason I knocked off a star was the state of the bathroom... that said, if I'd partaken in the tavern aspect, I doubt I would have minded. read more

I love this place. It's got grit. Yes, they only have one bathroom, but everyone is courteous. I always sit at the bar. I almost always make a friend with whoever is sitting next to me. It's laid back and chill. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. It gets busy at lunch time, so plan on hanging out a while. The burgers are excellent, and it's fun watching your order being cooked right in front of you. Fries and tots are crispy and hot. Fried fish was very good! You can't go wrong with the white bean soup, especially when it's cool out. And the Metzger's Lager goes great with the burger. The only thing that's a miss is the coleslaw. I like the idea that it's a fresh slaw of cabbage and kale, but the dressing is added when you order, (slaw needs to marinate) so it's more like a sad salad. That doesn't stop me from going back! I guess I need to try the fried Cajun bologna sandwich next. read more

A "must" stop for us every time we pass by. Fish sandwich, burgers, and fried bologna are SO good. Bean soup is better than mama's. Service is friendly and spot-on. read more

Absolutely amazing little Tavern in Downtown Henderson, KY. The atmosphere is awesome. The building is quaint, but the flavor in their food is so large! We came for breakfast and I HIGHLY recommend the BYOB (build your own biscuit). I used a bun 'cuz I could stop piling on the options. The ghost pepper bacon jam will set your soul free. Moe runs a great establishment and this bar has been a spot my family has visited for 3 generations now.

Wow, hadn't been here in a couple of years. Has it changed! Apparently had a redo in January. Used to be a "good old boys bar". Now it's a cute little tavern with great bar food! They have bean soup like your grandmother used to make. They are still famous for their "dip dog". Both the bun and dogs are dipped in a wonderful sauce. We also had a fried bologna sandwich that was great, with a toasted bun. They have three kinds of fried bologna sandwiches, Cajun, smoked, and regular. We had the regular. We went at lunchtime and it was completely full. The wait staff was fast and very friendly. Our waitress, Maydra, was excellent. Will definitely make this a regular lunch stop when in Henderson. read more
