We were heading home from Evansville and picked Booneville. There were a few places on the square. I happened to find parking at Commanders so we picked them. What a great choice! We sat at the bar and I asked the bartender what he recommended. He said the cheesesteak and burgers. That's what we ordered. No regrets. Absolutely delicious. It looks high end on the inside but not that way at all. Very comfortable. Engaging bartender. Check them out.

If you love good food and history, this place will not disappoint. What an awesome find while road tripping one evening! As far as good, the Indiana Tenderloin sandwich is a treat. A huge pork tenderloin on a nice hoagie bun and all the fixin's tasted wonderful. It practically melted in my mouth and was so flavorful. The blueberry cheesecake was one of the best cheesecakes I have ever tasted and is made from scratch from the owner's family friend. Service was great and staff was amazing. Saw a local coming in and the bartender motioned to them and began their drink if choice from memory. It reminded me of the Cheers theme song about a place where "everyone knows your name." The atmosphere was of people who seemed to be close friends and neighbors and treated us as new friends when we walked in. The namesake of the restaurant and uncle of the owner (and Boonsville native) is the late U.S. Navy Captain Ralph Weyerbacher, the father of the navy's rigid airships created and utilized shortly after WWI. He created them from memory after studying the German Zeppelin. He commanded the USS SHENANDOAH (ZR 1) which was the flagship for the prototypes made for the Navy. Although they were never really utilized in warfare, it was a forerunner of the modern-day Naval Aviation. Being retired Navy, this was a particularly memorable experience. It was enjoyable to see the pride this community takes in its native children. Ee thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely find a reason to make the trip back to Boonville to eat here again! You MUST come in and enjoy a moment in your day with these great folks in a great community. We loved it here.

Absolute best spot to eat in Newburgh/Boonville area. Great family owned restaurant where no one is a stranger. Fantastic Old Fashioned and other cocktails. Don't sleep on Commanders!

Food was great but the service was a little slow. The decor was homie and pleasant. Definitely looking forward to going back another time.

The food, service, and ambiance were all amazing! My very hard to impress 7 year old said this was the best grilled cheese he's ever had.

We dined here about a week ago. The fried chicken was delicious & juicy. Can't wait to go again.

Their hours are limited but their food is awesome! Fried chicken and huge salads are my favorite. I try to stop here at least once a month.

Best fried mushrooms around here but service was slow and no one willing to fill in, too busy talking.

This is as good as it gets on the small-town ice cream circuit. I began going here as a teenager,…read moreback when it was still "Tastee-Freez"; it was THE reason to make the trek to Boonville and the quality was unbeatable for the price. I no longer live in the Evansville area and have visited plenty of other über-Americana ice cream shops in the years since, yet I still feel this is the best I've come across. Whenever I visit Evansville, I'm once again all too willing to make a detour for TF. The Hoosier Experience™ just isn't complete until you've had real talk and a peanut butter milkshake with friends at a TF picnic table, as the sun sets and mosquitos bum-rush you from all sides. Ahhh, to be young again...

2026 UPDATE BELOW: I…read morewas here in 2023 and they weren't ringing up my order, they were just telling me that it came to $5.50 for a large chocolate & vanilla twist cone. The sign said the price was just over $3.. something like $3.25 or $3.29... but when I asked how they came up with $5.50, the lady said "you're forgetting about tax"... I said, you're charging 60 or 70% tax??? I said, no thanks... Seems like someone might have been trying to pocket something... Anyway, a few weeks later, I was here again and that was only because I was riding with someone else. I ordered the same thing and it came to $4.19... if that was tax, then they are charging at least 25% tax. Came back a couple of weeks later and got the exact same thing... they charged me less than $3.50. Never went back again. 2026 UPDATE: So, I did go back when in town visiting relatives. Got a medium cone this time. It was $3.49 and no one tried to overcharge me with an outrageous "tax" - was charged about $3.75. BUT... the "medium" cone was like a small or 'kiddie' cone. It was a very small cone with hardly any ice cream. When I asked to verify that they gave me the right size, they said it was a medium. The people behind me had several kids who got "small" cones; all of their cones were at least triple the size of what I was served.
