TL;DR This place has 4.8 stars on Google maps, do you understand how hard that is?! - it's worth every star. Food (5/5) - So varied for a food truck it's kind of insane - tacos, torta, burritos, burrito bowls, plates etc We ordered 3 tacos ($4 per taco, literally what else can you get for $4 in NYC?!), each were served in a double layer of tortillas. Get everything on them, it's a sublime experience. 1) Bistec / Steak - really well seasoned, nearly melt-in-your-mouth, not rubbery at all, which is what usually is the problem when getting steak anything from food trucks. A little smoky, as expected. You cannot get this on grubhub if you order from them, so get it at the food truck if you can! 2) Pastor / Pineapple marinade pork - best seasoning. Pork was juicy, chunks of pineapple in the pico de gallo, the avocado sauce was a nice touch balancing out the spice. 3) Pollo / chicken - light and savoury because the marinade is citrus and garlic - trust me you can taste both these elements. This is also not available on grubhub! Go get it! Service (5/5) - Amazing. Made to order, tacos were too hot to hold. Price (5/5) - what a steal? Covid - Customary vaccine card check, tables are fairly spaced out. Some outdoor seating available. Staff are fairly respectful of distancing (as much as is possible) and masking. If you live nearby, this should be your lunch spot. If you don't live nearby, this should be how you end the night. Made my week! read more

Quality Mexican food from a food truck was not something I expected to come across in NYC, as coming from San Diego, Mexican food is life. But this truck hit me like woah. That's right. Hit me like woah. A group of us were looking for places to eat on a Sunday night after 7pm. Most places were closed and this truck was still serving up customers. A friend recommended it and we agreed. Although an unassuming taco truck on the outside, the pulse of this truck really is in their food. It's phenomenal and I don't use that word lightly or ever when it comes to food. But the quality of my fish burrito that night was top-notch. Their was an X-factor in their spices and seasoning that made the burrito memorable. Even now, when I'm back in San Diego, I wish I could find a place who made food like the gals in this truck. My favorite veggie burrito around. I used to work across the street and this was my lunch every day. Their salsas are incredible!

While it appears Mex 'N Roll is primarily based in Brooklyn, I have noticed that there is a cart set up very close to where I live in Chelsea nowadays (at 24th and 6th). I decided to give it a try a couple days back, as I was in need of a quick bite and didn't want to wait on Seamless to get food when I had to be somewhere else. That said, don't expect a quick meal - I was surprised to see that frozen carnitas had to be pulled out and grilled for probably somewhere between 7-10 minutes before the burrito bowl I had ordered could be prepared. The amount of food is pretty generous, and for $8, it's not a bad deal compared to what some other food trucks can come out to. That said, I found the food to be a bit lacking overall. There was a bit of a language issue, so I did not end up with any seasoning at all, even though I had only asked for no sour cream. While I did find the carnitas to have solid flavor, there was a lot of fat on it, and I think cooking it from a frozen state made it an extremely greasy bunch of meat - only because my stomach, which usually has no issues with mild Mexican food, did not handle it well. The rice and beans were standard issue, and the side salad, which was topped with a solitary thin slice of avocado (not enough IMO) and some chopped-up tomatoes added veggies but without enough flavor or acidity that you might expect from a pico de gallo or some other salsa. While it tasted fine and filled me up cheaply, I'm not sure I'd hit this up relative to other Mexican street food spots I have encountered within NYC. Perhaps since I came at the end of the day, it wasn't quite the experience I would have hoped for. That said, it's hard to say I wouldn't hit a fast casual chain like Dos Toros first before coming here again. read more

Picked up a carnitas burrito on my way home tonight. It tasted pretty good, but there were no beans in it. Their menu calls for beans. Instead there was extra rice... rice and more rice. It was insubstantial and left me hungry afterward. Not exactly efficient to take it back, either. Is it really necessary to ask "before I order this, do you have the ingredients to make it?" The person who takes the order also makes the food while you stand six feet away, and you don't pay until it's ready. At any point they could say, "Hey, we're out of this... do you want something else?" instead of passing you a bag they know you won't open until after you've walked away. Boo. read more
