Having never been to Mexican Fiesta, I was really glad to have won free tickets from Yelp! We went on a Sunday - and it was packed. Lines everywhere, all stages full, and no one was upset that they had to wait! The lines also moved really quickly and efficiently. This festival is one well oiled machine! The highlights for me - the half chicken plate from Girabaldi I believe? Succulent chicken, roasted onion and peppers, tortillas, rice and beans all for $10. This will easily feed 2 and that's a steal, IMO. Also up there was the corn in a cup. Authentic style of course, with mayo, spicy seasoning and cheese. The line was quite long for this - and waiting was totally worth it! I also had an excellent time watching the various dancers and bands. It was great to see the variety of children to adults all involved. Mexican Fiesta is one giant celebration. It is a family friendly event - full of culture, authentic food and pride. I can't wait to come back next year!

I haven't been to Fiesta Mexicana or Mexican Fiesta since I was a kid. I was excited to win tickets at the Harley Elite event. Boo to the poor signage. We parked by the Lake park parking (over by the Marcus Amphitheater) where parking was free. We get to the front gate and there was nothing there but an message over the loud speaker saying go to mid gate. We walked the entire length of the festival to get there. The ticket windows were packed. We ended up buying two more tickets from a guy selling them for $5.00 each. There is a mandatory bag check which I am fine with. I kinda cringed when they said "no large bags" I wasn't going back to the car. We got in and the front of the venue was decorated with Dia De Los Muertos skeletons. And there was a shopping "village" right when you got in the gate. And another one a short distance. There were more Mexican things than I saw in my whole time in downtown Cozumel. I talked for a minute to a man from Jalisco about his paper mache' Dia de los Muertos figures. Food: Margaritas were $7.00 which you had to purchase tickets for. I opted for the Puerto Rican food which was fried pork rice and beans for $12.00. My kids had juego de Mango and a snow cone at $4.00 each. Entertainment was all over the different stages and they even had traditional dance. We even saw a processional parade. I felt more comfortable brining my kids to this fest than Summerfest. It seemed like less drunks and more activities for kids.

Mexican Fiesta....it's been too long! Colorfully dressed dancers, Dia de Los Muertos figures, music, art, crafts and...freebies? Why yes! The whole freakin' fiesta is full of booth after booth giving away free stuff! We walked out of this festival with t-shirts from David Gruber Law Offices, flavored popcorn and cupcake pops from Classy Girl Cupcakes, turkey leg shaped stress balls from the USDA, free can koozies from La Preferida, free nachos from Goya and many other assorted items. The best, though, was the free selfie sticks and ear buds from Verizon. Hubs even won a $50 Target gift card from an insurance company! We ordered a plate of tacos and a burrito from the La Perla booth. I had been warned that they weren't worth it, but I wanted to try them for myself. The detractors were right. I ordered no lettuce and my tacos came loaded with the stuff. The lines were so long and I already had quite a wait for the food, so I just took the food to a picnic table and scraped off as much as I could. Of course, by the time I finished, my food was cold and, add to that, flavorless, so, while edible, not up to par for ANY food vendor. Hubs was not impressed with his burrito, either (lacking in flavor). I ordered a soda when I got the food, but I noticed people walking around with pineapples with an umbrella and straw sticking out of them. It turns out those were Pina Coladas and were something like $12-$14 each. We were on our way out of the festival at that point, so no booze cup made out of fruit for me! :( The music was all on the traditional side (Mariachi and Tejano).....it would have been nice to hear more variety, but maybe that happens at night...we were there during the afternoon. Nevertheless, it was upbeat and people were dancing. At one point, we stumbled upon a group performing a traditional (read native) dance to the sound of drums. There were a variety of things to purchase rather than the kid-centric crap one usually sees at other ethnic fairs and festivals. In addition to the religious iconography and peasant blouses and jewelry, there was rustic styled decor, artists selling their paintings, tooled leather purses and wallets and a couple other artisans actually making items to order, right in front of the customer. Representatives from ancestry.com and familysearch.org were also there to assist visitors in beginning their family tree search. I haven't been to Mexican Fiesta for years, but I think that it is time to get this festival back into the rotation. Thanks to Yelp for the complimentary tickets and for reopening my eyes to yet another of this city's great venues! 125/2015

We went over to Mexican Fiesta around 4:00, and snagged a free street spot up on Prospect Ave, glad to be able to just pop down the stairs and end at the main entrance. This would have been great if the main entrance had been open. There was no signage indicating that only the furthest entrance was open. At that end there was only one person behind the window selling tickets, so the line was insanely long. Luckily we already had tickets *thanks yelp!* and were able to bypass what would have been a huge headache. There were tons more vendors than at summerfest, selling candles, clothing items, snacks and other traditional mexican goodies. I was shocked that there were SO MANY PEOPLE! I know the area was more condensed than summerfest, but WOW was it packed. The food was insanely expensive - like MORE than summerfest. For a plate of 'pork chunks' and puerto rican rice it was $14.25!!! They made you buy tickets ONLY for the alcohol which was annoying. The margaritas were only blended, and they offered a few other types of beer like Miller Lite. I thought it was a really cool cultural event, but pricing was way too high and it seemed rather disorganized. I would still consider returning next year.

Wow! I went to this festival for the first time and I must say what a fun and very traditional experience! The starring acts were great! The random performers were awesome. 7 or more stages with live acts going on at one time, you were never bored here and so many activities to do. I even bought some great looking traditional Mexican Earrings! This event was very well organized and worth my $13 entry fee. Food was a bit much but it helped raise money for the school system. Will definitely come again next year and was worth my 1.5 hr. drive from Chicago!

The main music stages have good local acts in a variety of styles, such as Negative Positive, Browns Crew, GuhGuhGoldDuhDuh (haha) throughout the day. I got some great tacos, and Elotes Mexican Street Corn. There is a lot of good food vendors here. Brady Street Festival is really great for the bars on Brady- as they set up shop w/slushies, liquor drinks, Mai Tais and the like, and the bars are bustling. But aye, there's the rub- our crowd of music dancers and watchers of De La Buena got physically plowed by people who by 7pm were already...plowed! This small fest is nice that it's not that crowded, and has a mix of Italian cultural elements, with normal entertainment options. I enjoyed getting caught up in a parade with the UW marching band, Festa dignitaries in old cars, some Firenze drill team, and oversized puppets. There's lots of wine here, but few good beer options. Food options are limited and fairly pricey. I had a good but small entree of lasagna w/vodka sauce from diCarlo's, and also some excellent roast corn. Of the better non-Italian entertainment, the Heart cover band Dog 'n' Butterfly was excellent, and Gin Blossoms weren't bad, as their set overlapped an excellent fireworks display that could be heard for miles and miles, apparently.

We enjoyed listening to a few other bands as we walked around. The Latin music day was fun - loved the energy, and people were really enjoying it. Bonus points for having an NA beer option available and easier to locate this year! Lots of great food and drink options available, as always. The very high prices for food and beverages are a bit of a bummer. At least dropping the price of bottled water would be a nice move. Since we know what to expect with prices, we tend to just eat before and then enjoy on something fun vs have our whole meal there, and avoid the super pricey drinks. Our favorite things to do every year are to take stroll by the lakefront, ride the sky glider, enjoy a "famous" Saz's sampler platter together, and of course catch lots of live music. We tend to splurge and park in a well-lit lot close by so it's easy in and easy out, but we've also taken the Connect bus from Tosa in the past. The bar and restaurant shuttles are a great option we will probably explore next year. Downloading the app is great to check out stage schedules and find your favorite eats. We used it for our tickets this year as well. We felt like the grounds were clean, bathrooms were clean and lines weren't too long, and security kept the entry lines moving quickly, and we had a great experience the nights we attended. I go back and forth on my excitement to attend, because being so large, there can certainly be unruly crowds, wildly long lines, and a bit of chaos. But hey I guess that's any festival! This year we decided to get tickets to a concert at the Amphitheater and walk the grounds beforehand. Honestly overall it was a fantastic night! We were with a group of nine people on a Friday night, and surprisingly it was easy to get through the crowds. We really enjoyed checking out this years vendors scattered about, stopping at various small stages to see the acts, and of course indulging in food and drink. Are prices astronomical, however? Beyond. Definitely be prepared to spend plenty of money - a simple canned beer or slice of pizza will set ya back. I was impressed with how quick the entrance process was on this visit. I feel like the staff was on point keeping things swift, safe, and easy. Parking on the other hand is always a tough one, so highly rec taking a shuttle from a local bar/restaurant (which is what we did). The easiest and cheapest option for sure! It's honestly great to see the tourism this fest brings to Milwaukee, and all of the local love it shares. Definitely puts our wonderful city on the map.

Parking was a wild time, as they were directing people to an entirely different lot down the way, so it was a bit of hike to get to the entrance. I was tipped off the downland the Bavarian's app ahead of time, which got me $5 off my entry (and it was free from my little kiddo in tow). If you're looking for all the great German beer, German music, and German cuisine, this is your place! It's so fun to see how many attendees dress to theme in their lederhosens, dirndls, and hats. Some of the staff dress up as well, and of course those preforming on stage! We came to find out this isn't the greatest fest to take young kids, as the crowds are big, the lines are long, and the music (be it so fun and festive), is really loud. I'm sure we would have stayed longer if it was an adult-only trip. In any case, the food and drink are fare price. I'm now regretting not ordering the traditional pretzel and sausage options, but splitting a tasty platter of tenders and fries with my son hit the spot. Being pregnant, I'm not drinking, but friends we were with has nothing but great things to say about their German pints. The beer steins are of course an option which is a fun touch. Hot tip: if you can book a table reservation ahead of time, do so! That's what we did and it was a good call since this place is poppin. Happy official Fall! Enjoy!
