During the "pandemic" as many of us know - no clinic in local area were accepting new animals - I was thrilled to hear Fulton Animal Hospital could get my baby kitty in for neuter surgery. I was in dire need for this surgery as I've been hunting down a place to take him for months! Ha! All services have been expected so far - prices are not nearly as costly as surrounding quotes I've gotten either! It seemed like they were short staffed but they appeared to have it together, considering the times we are in. A week later she called me while I was at work saying she had spoken with my landlord and that my apartment did not allow pets. I was quite confused because I had never heard of the woman she had spoken to, and I had asked her to put my application on hold and was now midway into adopting a dog elsewhere. I tried to calmly get to the bottom of the miscommunication, reminding her that I had sent her written proof of my pet policy over email, and that this was not my landlord she had spoken to. I suggested maybe it was a wrong number, or a new employee at the leasing office. She snapped at me "Would you just be quiet and let me talk!" At this point I told her to withdraw any of my information from her system, and never contact me again. I called my landlord and she said she had never spoken to Linda. This strange miscommunication should never have happened, as I had already requested my application be put on hold. It also could easily have been resolved if Linda had listened to me and conducted herself with professionalism. I am so happy I will be picking up my dog tomorrow from a more professional shelter. For these reasons I can unfortunately not recommend this shelter. But please, adopt (elsewhere) don't shop!

Linda and Ed are marvelous, honest, and very hard working and really care with a massive heart about what they do. They are strict about requirements to adopt from them. That is only because they want to do their very best to make sure any adopted dog is in the safest hands possible and that potential adopters are fully prepared and able to take the best care possible of any dog they may adopt. It is a lot about the dog and minimizing return to shelter situations. They really do dig deep into potential adopters, again this to make sure any adopted dog will be safe. Linda and Ed have made Gerties Small Dog Rescue their life, they have an excellent track record and are well respected in the community as well as within animal and rescue circles.

The owner is very kind and my animals received great treatment. The kennels were always clean and all the other dogs appeared well cared for. The owner even understood my occasional phone call to check up on their welfare during their stay.

There is absolutely no way that I could suggest this kennel with a good mind. I called to inquire…read moreabout the kennel and decided they seemed friendly enough on the phone and the price was right, so I would stop by for a visit. I was absolutely horrified at my findings. It was March of 2014 and the temperature that day was 19 degrees F. No one was there when I arrived, so I decided to walk along side and check out the kennels. Behind the boarding facility were three typical puppy mill-type cages - above the ground with a small wooden box for the dog to sleep in. In each cage was a beagle. No food, no water. Yes, there were water bowls that were frozen solid and obviously scratched at in an attempt to quench their thirst. All three dogs were shivering and the cages were filled with feces and frozen urine. Underneath the cages were more feces that had at one point fallen through. Absolutely despicable and unexcuseable. Note that the kennel also is a "professional breeder" of hunting dogs. I left, disgusted and made a few phone calls to find out where I would need to report these people to the authorities. I decided to go back and take pictures so that I could send them to the local Humane Society and whoever else may need them. When I went back, I walked even further to find about a dozen more dogs chained to wooden dog houses, again, with no shelter from the weather, no food bowls and only one empty water bowl which was completely out of reach for any of the animals. I thought, could this get any worse? I met the state police who promised to pay the kennel a visit and to call me with his findings. In the interim, I contacted a friend who knew the owner and was told that he worked at the local prison. Hmmm. Shortly after I got a call from the policeman who said that he found that the dogs were all taken care of and that the owner worked overnight and had not yet gotten out to feed and water the dogs that day...at 11 am. He went on to say that the dogs were given food and water earlier that morning after his shift and that the water had frozen in the interim. Absolutely no way could that have happened seeing the bowls for myself and that they had obviously been scratched at for days. The policeman said that he went into the owners home and he had paintings and pictures of his dogs throughout his house and was told that he took his hunting dogs out all of the time hunting with him and that he played with them each day. My opinion, a good example of the "Good Ole' Boys Club". If he cares for his breeding dogs this way, should you trust him with yours? Absolutely not and I'll tell you why. I spoke with my vet about my encounter and she said that they have had multiple dogs in their office for removal of porcupine quills because he has taken boarded dogs out with him to hunt in the woods behind his home. Imagine coming to pick up your pet to find that. Obviously, I chose to go elsewhere as I hope you do to. Please also consider this when looking for a hunting dog. Check your local animal shelters, Humane Society and breed-specific rescues. There are many options. Often times you can put your name on a waiting list at your local shelter or Humane Society for a specific breed and they will call you when one comes in. You can save a life for much less money and help in shutting down puppy mills that abuse animals for a dollar. As you can see I now live in New Hampshire. At the time, we were living in New York and I drove and hour and a half to visit this place. I just recently came across the pictures again and had to write a review to inform others that may be interested in boarding at Tug Hill Kennels.

She is sensitive to prescription vet diets but will tolerate a non-prescription urinary tract diet we give her: when she can eat. Our family brought her to several vets who made various efforts to help her, such as a prescription stomach medicine that helps with nausea and stimulates appetite, to no avail. Because, our fur-baby is also sensitive to certain traditional meds and methods. Dr. Cortes immediately pinpointed what Jemima needed, a series of injections to be repeated periodically as needed. Her appetite is terrific afterward, and it has lasted sometimes for 4 months. In addition: this is a human being who loves animals. Animals are his life. He lives, breathes and interacts with them as though they were his own. They are. His knowledge is matched with his keen instincts and skilled decision-making. I highly recommend him, yes, even to people who may have to travel some extra miles to get to him. Well worth the effort.

My older dog has issues with boarding when I'm not there and this is the only place that she is comfortable with me leaving and will walk right in without issue... no hunger strike or anything.. she just enjoys the people and being there so its okay that Mom has to leave for a while. DDR is able to accommodate lots of dogs of different sizes and with different needs. My girls always stay double occupancy and I've seen other's do the same as well as lots of single occupancy spots.When staying here, your dogs are never just left in a cage.. they are loved, socialized and get to spend time interacting with other dogs and people who truly care about them. I would and have absolutely encouraged people to board at DDR, you won't be disappointed.
