Patty with our drinks

Another awesome experience at Mextreme. Eddy, our server, was phenomenal. Always attentive to our needs and really his service was excellent. Of course, the reason we always come to Mextreme is the food. The food is delicious (carnitas, enchiladas, and Molcajetes). Don't forget those Margaritas and I had a double shot with chaser.

Food was not bad. Fajitas were decent. Mole enchiladas were a but sweeter than I would like. Bu We sat outside. It wasnt that crowded. Service was attentive and pleasant. A lively atmosphere. An overall nice experience.

【Background】 Sunday, April 27, 2025, ~8:15 PM After flying into Cancun and checking into my hotel, I was hungry for my first meal in Mexico. There weren't too many options near me, but I had Mextreme saved from an article on The Infatuation [1], and a post on the Cancun subreddit also recommended it. So my friends and I decided to visit for dinner. The reviews weren't kidding about the ambiance being (M)extremely lively. The restaurant has outdoor seating with colorful furniture and string lights hanging overhead. Loud music played in the background. Employees walked around the tables, offering huge sombreros for customers to wear while eating. If a table orders drinks, an employee will come out and balance them on their head. The restaurant really focuses on the entertainment factor, and it seemed to be working since it was pretty busy with a good number of customers. 【Food】 Menu: https://en.mextrememexico.com/menu/ I ordered: * Mextreme nachos ($219 MXN) We got nachos for the table. (We ordered this before we found out they bring out complimentary chips and salsa.) The crispy tortilla chips were layered with an assortment of traditional toppings like cheese, beans, guacamole, and jalapeños. Keep in mind that this order doesn't come with any meat protein. Flavorwise, the nachos were typical, but at least the portion was pretty big. * Tikin Xic fillet ($259 MXN) While scanning the menu, I noticed they actually offered Tikin Xic, and I had to try it since it's a pretty famous Yucatan dish [2]. The white fish filet is marinated with achiote and traditional regional spices before being roasted on the grill. It was served with soft bell peppers and tomatoes on top. Sides included a lightly salted mixture of broccoli, carrots, and Mexican squash along with a small mound of rice. I'm not sure if this restaurant prepares the Tikin Xic in the most authentic manner, but the fish was flaky and flavorful, and the vegetables added a nice, healthy feel to the meal. * Daiquiri, mango (forgot to write down the price) If you like sweet drinks, then you'll like the mango daiquiri. The drink wasn't strong, and I could barely taste the alcohol, but I enjoyed the mango flavor and the tajin rim. My friends mentioned their drinks were not strong either, so order a beer if you want something with guaranteed alcohol content. Overall, the food and drinks were good. Mextreme had pretty good prices for the Zona Hotelera. For a party of 4, the total pre-tip cost was $1777 MXN ( ~$91 USD), which was relatively affordable since we each ordered an entree, a water, and a drink and shared the nachos. The dishes would've definitely cost more in America (at least in California). 【Service】 The staff were friendly, especially when trying to persuade random passengers walking by to come into the restaurant. Our waiter was quick in taking our order. However, service went downhill after that since the food and drinks took forever to come out. We all ended up ordering drinks, and it was a bit of a weird experience since they played "Gangnam Style" by Psy while an employee came out and balanced the drinks on his head. I wouldn't say this incident was due to racism but maybe just ignorance since we're not even Korean. The slow service combined with that unusual experience did not leave a good impression. 【Tips】 Be careful of their scam. Since I was paying with my credit card, our waiter brought out a card reader. He automatically gave himself a 15% tip and had the audacity to say that tip wasn't included even though we could clearly see the receipt already had $266.55 MXN next to "Propina." Other Yelp reviews also mentioned the same thing happened to them, so be careful and double-check your receipt to make sure you don't tip twice. ---------- [1] https://www.theinfatuation.com/cancun/guides/best-restaurants-cancun-mexico [2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tikin_Xic

Chicken mole

Solid Mexican food. Great staff. Went here on vacation and sat on patio w my wife. The fresh chips went well w the spicy smoky dip and avocado dip. We ordered chicken mole and molcajete. The chicken mole was too chocolate forward for me as was blend of sweet and savory. could have been correct but not for my taste. The molcajete was a unique serving technique but then just grilled bits in it. We liked the chicken, onion, etc. overall an ok dish. Staff was playful and fun. Is a good bright place to eat if you are near.

Had dinner with friends. Not a lot of people but sure was alot of fun.!! Food was so good. Serves was great. Lots of laugh

Good vibes, food was great! Loud music with a singer. Definitely coming back. I highly recommend the skillet plate with everything

Cochinita pibil

Food was excellent which made up for a few hiccups in service but ils all good! Fun atmosphere, friendly people, food is fantastic and well priced. Don't let the tourist vibe fool you the food is legit! Great cochinita pibil and waiter does an amazing stunt balancing multiple full marg glasses on his head and delivers them tableside. Manager extremely personable. Grab a big sombrero from the chair a Margarita from the bar and enjoy your vacation dinner here!

Sombrero Hour! All drinks are served on someone's head!

INCREDIBLE!!! Everything about this place was a 5/5! The servers, food, drinks, atmosphere were all amazing. They have a big menu, great drinks, engaging servers and ambiance and everyone is beyond friendly, helpful and welcoming. Would do anything to go back!

Tourist trap? Kind of..... Great food? Absolutely. The BEST fried shrimp tacos I've ever had. Crisp and a bit sweet. Not overly greasy. Get the house habanero sauce on the side and you'll be glad you did. Great experience overall.

Food was amazing, vibe was fun and light. If I return to Mexico I will definitely surely return. Service was great, food was quick.

Table side guac...the new 2023 standard!

The epitome of touristy (along with every other restaurant in this area). Not the most authentic but they still try. Great space for large parties- the patio is HUGE. We came in a party of 5 after dinner for snacks and drinks. Music was loud (great music selection playing 90s & 2000s hits). If you're looking for a quiet sit down dinner- this is not for you. More like dinner before the night galavanting begins. If you order a margarita they'll provide entertainment for you by carrying it on their heads and making you dance for them when they arrive at your table. Who doesn't live a little entertainment right?! We only came in for a few snacks and drinks so I can't speak for the entrees. We got the table side guacamole, pastor tacos, chicken tacos & nachos. I was super excited about the table side guacamole but my suggestions is to skip. Le sigh. Absolutely no flavor. Fresh ingredients? Yes. No lime juice, seasoning, nada. Tomatoes, onions & cilantro can only get you so far... The chips were nothing special which made the nachos just meh. Nachos came out cold so that wasn't ideal. Pastor tacos had flavor but no wow factor. Also skip the chicken tacos. Margaritas were okay. We got mango & strawberry with a tajin rim. The syrup ratio to tequila just didn't do it for us. WAY too sweet. Le sigh again. We really wanted to love this place. We loved the ambiance and the aesthetics and would come back for a drink on the patio but that's it. Their menu is huge. Several pages. Kind of overwhelming honestly. But silver linings- hopefully there's something for everyone?!

TLDR: Fun ambience, good food, good drinks Tried Mextreme and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. They have a unique way of serving their Margheritas. The nachos were decently good and drinks could do with some more alcohol seems watered down

This place is full or colors, the staff is nice and the food comes out SO fast. It's a fun place to eat outdoors in, in the middle of all the action. I was happy they had a vegetarian aztec soup and some vegetarian options (quesadilla with poblano peppers). Negative: the music was SOOOOOOO loud and 95% of it was american songs... why?! This place is made for american tourists thats for sure.

Dinner in the cancun strip…read more We decided to pick Porfirio's for the evening from all of the restaurants outside of the all inclusive resorts. I took some notes and this is what I thought of the dishes. Xoajacan Imoladas - The mole is perfection. The flautas, superb. Everything in this plate is a symphony of what I would expect from Xoajaca. 9.5/10 Barbacoa Bonemarrow - Barcacoa is on point. The Marrow is Sublime. Together with the accompaniments is superb. I dream of Marrow everyday. This is a 10/10 Yellow fin Tosatadas - Superb!!! One of the best tostadas I have ever had. The microgreens, the sauce and the square Tostada works well all together. 8.8/10 Salmon - Cooked perfectly. The corn is a great accompaniment. The fish is impeccably seasoned. This dish is heaven sent with a 9.8/10 Grilled Octopus - Grilled perfectly, I can tell by the texture. The mash is superb, they used margarine instead of butter and I absolutely love the contrast from the traditional mash. 9.8/10 Mexican Rice - Its pretty good. It does have a nice seafoodish finish. The pepper was actually spicy. Nice and pleasant rice dish. 8/10 Charred Avocado Salad - Grilled avocado is a bit of a wash. It did make it look good on the plate. The dressing is a little weak. Needs a little more zip, some citrus or vinegar would give this salad some justice. Its a little uninspired 7/10 Service is impeccable and attentive and the atmosphere is lovely.

Anyway: the food, presentation of the dishes itself, and the overall vibe: 4/5. My favorite dish was definitely the steak. The bone marrow is better off being plain without all the stuff they put on top. The steak itself was perfectly cooked & seasoned. I should've took more pictures of the food but whatever- the mango tuna thing with avocado was delicious. Very mango forward. Great alongside some salsa as well. The octopus: OK enough, slightly overcooked. Chewy. Chicharron guac was yum. Our server was so sweet in the beginning but had an attitude after getting tipped 25% LOL other than that, great experience :)

It's huge, as far as presentation it's not very fancy, it was tasty but as large as it was you'd think it had more alcohol to offset the size. But it did not. My wife ordered the aguachile with octopus. I ordered the Tuna Burger, and we got the steak quesadillas as an appetizer. My wife said she would give her aguachile a 3.8 out of 5. I thought the tuna burger was very tasty. Basically they took a tuna steak and put it between a hamburger bun. I can't really compare it to a regular meat burger. But on a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 7. It came only with lettuce and tomato, but it had flavor enough. The quesadilla's were good, but nothing special, I'd say they were comparable to any you get at an average Mexican restaurant in the states. We came here because of the high ratings. Many of the dishes have strange ingredients that the regular gringo hasn't heard of, which makes this even more exotic! I consider myself a mexican food expert, to some degree, and they're serving dishes that are so inventive, so wild, so fresh, so delicious! The dining area is split between a covered outside area, and seating on the grass overlooking the lagoon. Be careful, there's alligators in there! The service was fantastic- the waiter was patient, spoke English, and made excellent recommendations. I got fish with peppers, octopus ceviche, and some mezcal, followed by a honey and anise Mayan drink. All of which were delicious! My dining companion had a strange pepper with some fish- also nom! Coming here was like a history cuisine lesson, mixed with delicious food, wonderful scenery and a pleasant meal! My favorite part of this place is the artwork when you come in. There is a separate steakhouse on the property that costs extra, but honestly, MB did a great job and even has steak options that made me question whether I'd need to pay extra at all. This is one of the few places where there is actually a dress code. They seemed a little relaxed about enforcing it, but generally you're looking at collared shirts, pants, and closed-toe shoes for men, while women should avoid beachwear and flip-flops. The meal started with fresh bread rolls and what I believe was a strawberry butter, which was surprisingly good. I also tried the habanero cream soup. A lot of people recommended it, both online and around the resort, but for me it was just okay. It had a nice little kick and came in a bread bowl, but it wasn't the standout I expected. My marinated salmon course was good, although it arrived a little cooler than I would have preferred. For the main course, I ordered the stuffed chicken with shrimp, while my girlfriend ordered the veal cheek, and we also split the filet mignon. The stuffed chicken was excellent, but like most restaurants at Live Aqua, the portions were on the smaller side. Thankfully we added the filet mignon, because that ended up being the star of the night. It was fantastic, and if we had stayed longer, I probably would have come back just to order the steak again. For dessert, we tried the brownie with white chocolate, the hibiscus soup, and the lemon pie. The brownie was decent but pretty standard. The desserts were good overall, but the main courses were really what made the meal memorable. Service was good, although it had the same issue we noticed throughout much of the resort. The staff was friendly and attentive enough, but there were stretches where it felt like you were waiting around for someone to check in or refill a drink. One thing I wish they would change is the timing of the live piano music. They have a pianist from 6 to 9, but many of the resort activities and events happen between 7 and 9. We ended up dining around 9, and by then the piano was finished. Since the restaurant stays open much later, it would have been nice to still have that live music and atmosphere during later dinner reservations. Even with a few small complaints, MB delivered one of the best overall dining experiences we had at the resort. The atmosphere felt elevated, the filet mignon was excellent, and it was one of the places I'd make sure to visit again on a future trip.
