Came to celebrate my niece and I's birthday. This was her choice. Although beautiful inside, it's really dark. If you don't like eating in the dark, may not be for you unless you come early. It took 20 minutes to get water we order three lychee martinis 2 came out the 3rd took over 30 minutes after the first 2 came out they kept saying that there's a lot of people here because a buy out then why accept reservations very unacceptable. So many damn excuses and gave only 3 pieces of pita bread for a spread of humus. The ambiance but that's about it and the food was pretty but not waiting over an hour for it good. Service was top notch but you are really paying a hefty price for the ambience and entertainment. Only go there when there is live music such as the pop saxophonist (who was incredible). This was the only place we went to eat outside of our resort. We all really enjoyed the ambiance and upbeat vibe. There was great music playing and plenty of people dancing. All the servers were nice and made you feel a part of the culture, adding to the atmosphere. The food also looked of the highest quality. It is on the expensive side so expect to pay a good bit for your meal. You get complimentary bread, olives, onion dip, and peppers stuffed with feta while you wait on your food. It was a perfect meal starter! I ordered the lamb burger which i loveddd! It was a huge burger which I appreciate for the price! The Greek hummus spread on the bun was a delicious touch! The burger itself was a 10/10, I took off a bit for the side potatoes, they were lackluster compared to the burger. The red scarlet cocktail was one of the best drinks I have ever had! I highly recommend. Every hour ish they have a live instrumental performance with dimmed lights. This restaurant is open from 1pm - 3am which is great if you want to grab a late dinner and stick around to hang out for the night! Really enjoyed myself and the food! Be prepared for a loud and involved show like experience if you decide to stop by! Taboo was a must visit on my list while in Cancun for dinner and I'm so glad we did. To preface, this place is pricey so prepare yourself for the prices. I'm the type of person who will spend a pretty penny on food so it wasn't terrible but if you're paying for multiple people don't be surprised when that bill is $200+ Now honestly, I'd say the menu isn't ass extensive as I'd like. I would've preferred some of the entrees to come with more sides. For example, sides with the seafood such as the branzino would've made me more inclined to order. Instead, I settled for the lamb burger. This burger was sooooo good. I am not a burger person at all but it was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the tzakiki sauce that they added on top really emphasized the Mediterranean vibe of the dish. It came with a side of potatoes which were decent, a bit over seasoned in my opinion. Me and my friend added sweet potatoes to share per the waiters suggestion. The sweet potato was extremely big (2 full sized potatoes) so I honestly think you could split it comfortable amongst at most three people. Now I think the main reason why people come here is for the atmosphere. The live violinist, dancing, and fireworks definitely elevated the experience but it can be a bit much if you're trying to sit and talk to people all night. Typical dim lighting that you find in high class restaurants which I'm not really a fan of because I like to see my food but it wasn't horrible. Overall, I do see myself coming back. Absolutely amazing experience. 10/10. The fish tacos were probably the best I've ever had (shh don't tell my abuela). I'd say this restaurant is for the people that want a delicious dinner, beautiful ambiance, WITH entertainment. On this particular night, we got a violin player who did her rendition of Now We Are Free from Gladiator. One of my favorite movies of all time, such a beautiful song and she killed it! Stay away if you don't like being overly stimulated or looking to save money. It's not excessively expensive but you can easily spend $400 (like me) and not even realize it. Which leads me to another point... My only gripe, is if you're not careful they will keep serving you bottled water which ended up being around $7 a bottle. If I didn't read this complaint beforehand and told them to stop then the bill could've gotten out of hand. I had to do the same thing with the wine. They poured me and my girlfriend an extra glass after I told the waiter I was done and they still charged me for it (even though I sent them back). Should've just drank it at that point (it was a $22 glass). But I've learned that's just how Cancun is. They will squeeze tourists if you're not careful. So keep that in mind. read more

I've been here twice for birthday celebrations and it's always a party!! 1. You notice the decor first. It's gorgeous! It's an entire vibe. They have two levels of seating. When you come in, it's all tables and 2-3 steps below it's a mix of tables and couches. Loungey restaurant if that's a thing. 2. The 2nd thing you notice is that your waiter has a helper that helps to make things smoother. They help with bringing food out, utensils if you need it, get the waiter when needed, etc. It was very helpful. They were both awesome and made us feel taken care of. 3. Third is the food. So, disclaimer, I'm a beef and chicken eater. So, being at a place that's mostly seafood isn't the best, but I always make it work. On the table seafood croquettes, Nigerian shrimp, hummus plate, patatas bravas, tuna tartare, beef w/ arugula & tzatziki sauce ( idr the name) and drinks. I will say the seafood eaters ate it all up and seemed happy. The one beef item on the table was tasty and had spice to it that was cut by the sauce. 4. Lastly is the shisha. After dinner, we enjoyed more cocktails while we had our watermelon mint shisha. The DJ and the live music from the sax and violin just topped off the night. Our main course of ribeye and strip steak was cold. In addition, it was the worst cut of beef I've ever had. If you ever been to Steak 48, Vic & Anthony's or Eddie V's you will understand. I had TWO margaritas and a shot, and I was still completely sober. Weakest drinks ever. But that's not even the worst part. When we asked for the check, out of nowhere, like SEVEN waiters surrounded our table. Super weird and uncomfortable. Then, when it was time to tip, the waiter straight-up ASKED us how much we were tipping. We said 10%, and this guy had the audacity to question us--"Why? Wasn't the service good?" EXCUSE ME?! Tipping is OPTIONAL, and no one should be pressured into it. I don't know if they saw we were from LA and thought they could scam us, but this was beyond rude. I communicated it to my server which then he brought the manager. I knew once I said something to my server that something was going to go wrong bc his demeanor changed. I explained the same thing to the manager and his first response was "l'll take it off ur bill but ur server will have to pay for it" when I responded "oh no" he then said "ya well someone has to pay for it".... Soooo outta pocket and disgusting for him to try n guilt trip me into paying for it and putting it on the server... this is an upscale restaurant that can survive missing out on a few unpaid plates.. Now the drink I got was also disgusting. I seen coconut as one of the flavors but I did not expect coconut pulp and for it to be served in one. My sisters drink tasted like perfume.. also the reviews don't lie when they say the drinks don't get u drunk. I'm an extreme light weight so I was surprised I didn't feel a buzz. Might be taboo to say but Taboo Cancún was disappointing. Booked a reservation for an evening meal after recommended by a friend. As a whole, I found Taboo overhyped in terms of food, atmosphere, value, and service; and I would recommend seeking other options for a nice meal out. Food: I started with a cocktail from the fire category of the menu- don't recall the name but believe it consisted of vodka, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and some type of pepper/spice infusion. Decent flavor profile, but not that strong of a cocktail. We decided to share the rack of lamb and a pasta dish- the vodka rigatoni. Before our food came, we were pleasantly surprised by a small complimentary tapas board with pita, seasoned butter, olives, sun dried tomatoes, etc. A nice tasty surprise! However, the timing was off as we received this board and our food also arrived within 5 minutes. The lamb was cooked as ordered, and came with 6-8 small "lollipops" or ribs. Flavor was unremarkable but had decent seasoning. Biggest complaint was meat did not easy come off bone by knife or teeth. One or two of the lollipops were completely inedible because of gristle or other material along the bone/between ribs. Rigatoni dish was also average in terms of portion size, flavor, and pasta. Pasta appeared to be store-bought and was semi rubbery. Vodka sauce had good balanced flavor profile and salvaged the dish. Ambiance: The restaurant is "trendy" and attempting to capture an upscale, Vegas club/modern restaurant atmosphere. Personally, found it to be tacky, superficial, and even obnoxious. Loud music by live DJ. It seems the inflated prices were mostly accounting for the ambiance, but from my experience, it's not worth it. Restaurant was warm but comfortable. We had an issue with one of the large fans blowing directly at our table- would make more sense to air circulation without such forceful speed or pointed indirectly to encourage air circulation without blowing people out and cooling food. Had to ask twice before someone shut off the fan. Very dimly lit- thus why no pictures of food captured. The bachelorette party influencers' table was like police spot light in the darkened dining area. Hanging lights adorned with burlap material was amusing to me- made this expensive and "upscale" restaurant feel like a potato cellar in my opinion. We also had the unfortunate table placement next to the bar and main ordering system. Having 2-6 grown men hovering around within feet of your table while they wait to place orders or pick up drinks doesn't do much for aiding ambiance. Service: Our experience with service wasn't great- see comments in food and ambiance sections explain so reasoning on that. Personally found service at Taboo to be strange- parts were slow and parts were uniquely aggressive. Lots of hovering and activity but most actions were not meaningful or obtrusive. For example, staff was quick to take plates and wipe the table etc., but one time I picked up my cocktail to drink it and a server picked up and took the coaster which my drink was sitting on and wiped the table where it was sitting. Later, some other server brought a new coaster after seeing my drink without one. There was also the bringing around the raw cuts of meat and example of a lobster to the table to show us before we ordered. Unusual. Didn't matter to me, but an over zealous vegan would have stormed out. Our waiter did his best at upselling, assured us the rack of lamb was too small to share. He opted not to ask where we were visiting from or try to make small talk until bringing the check. Maybe innocent but came off tacky and obvious. We noted we were ready to pay by credit card and he saw aid he would be back with payment machine. We had waited 10-15 minutes and still had not been able to pay, so we ultimately asked another server if he could process our check. However, the most bizarre interaction was with a manager? who stopped by our table after we finished the entrees. He asked about our experience and we said it was average. Maybe something was lost in translation or in the loud music, but he said thank you for visiting and walked away instead of asking what was wrong. Another strange thing while we were waiting for the check, staff cleared our table and prepared the side bench- adjacent and beneath our table with place setting for the next guests. See picture. My wife and I ate here on Valentine's Day '25 and didn't really know what to expect. Wow, what a place! The atmosphere was electric with music, fire, a setting sun, and people celebrating throughout. The service was excellent with attentive and engaging staff in all positions. We accepted the waiter's recommendations and were not disappointed. The food was spectacular. We booked our lounge area and bottles in advance and thought we were all set until arriving and being informed that there were additional fees associated with entry which totally caught us off guard. On the flip side, the place is beautiful. Plenty of photo opps. They have pools between lounge areas that you have access to. They aren't huge in size or deep but a cute addition. The DJ takes request and is on fire. For food, we had hummus dip(2*), tzatziki dip(5*) and the salmon tacos(5**) must try with the aioli sauce. read more

We have had many great food experiences in Cancun, but this was the best. The service was top notch, the view spectacular, the food was amazing, and you definitely get what you pay for here. It was entertaining and an experience like no other. It was a great place to go while in Cancun but I can't say I would go again. My friends and I were in Cancun for the weekend! We visited Taboo 2 of the 3 nights! It was definitely a vibe when it comes to the ambiance and celebrations. If you're into hookah this is it and the service was top notch! First night we came OMG everything was perfect! The drink the appetizers. I had the lobster soup, asparagus and go big or go home shrimp that was grilled. My and my party was stuffed! We couldn't even finish all. We went back a second night after such an amazing experience the first night and they missed missed. We sat by the water this time. Originally they were trying to sit us in the same spot but we wanted a different section (bad decision). Waiter couldn't figure out our drink. Complimentary food came slow. Our big grilled tiger shrimp was burnt and our bill was $250 for 3 drinks and 2 orders of tiger shrimp. We only went back because we loved the ones at Taboo Tulum so much.
