I rarely write yelp reviews but these guys deserve it…read more With any service company (plumbers, contractors, etc.) you expect to be charged at a high rate, regardless if any work is done during the estimate (because you're paying for their expertise). These guys were not like that. They could've charged an exorbitant service fee for coming to my boyfriends home on a weekend for a partial power outage (within 4 hours of us calling), but when they came and realized it was an issue with the utility company, they didn't charge him anything. The quick turnaround, honesty in their work, and willingness to help others in a pinch really sets them apart. We called nearly 20 electricians that day with most asking for somewhere around $160 for 30 min plus travel time at a minimum or for us asking for an appointment next week. They took our call right away and although they seemed lax on the phone, it's clear they knew what they were doing and understood the issue we were trying to communicate. It's not even my house, but if I need anything I'm calling them first and my boyfriend will do the same. Added bonus: this is a veteran-owned business.

Clearly, I am not in a dire situation but I have been calling and calling for months now without any response, no call back, zilch. I even say that I am a former client and that they've done a ton of work for me already. The work they did was fine and I had no problems with them personally. I recently had to get some permitting issues resolved with my house (a long story that I will…read moreexplain in a future review) and one of the problems I had to deal with was that when my breaker panel was replaced in early 2010 the electrician who did the job didn't apply for a permit. I tried to just deal with the permit office myself, but it turned out that the previous electrician had a block on his license and was now unreachable so I needed a new electrician to certify my panel. Madden Electric was recommended by a couple of neighbors so I gave them a call. As I soon learned this company isn't the greatest about returning phone calls, but fortunately that's the only real issue I had with them. Once I got through to them they promptly scheduled an appointment. It was easy to schedule it at a convenient time and the electrician who came by was friendly and seemed very competent. Unfortunately my panel was not completely up to code (there was nothing unsafe about it, but the rules say it needs a secondary grounding wire that's run out to an outside rod) which meant several hundred dollars worth of work before it would pass an inspection. I wasn't happy about paying money for completely pointless work but that was the fault of the mortgage company and the city electrical code, not Madden's. The price they charged to get the work done wasn't cheap, however I know that an electrician's time is expensive and I felt their rate was fair. They took care of all the permit paperwork and scheduled an inspection. When the inspector came by my panel passed without any problems. While I wish that I hadn't had to hire them in the first place I was pleased with Madden Electric and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others for home electrical work. As I mentioned earlier the owner isn't the greatest about returning phone calls but other than that I was very happy with their work and felt that they charged reasonable prices.
