Pilates has completely changed my body. A year ago on a visit to my Grandmother, she showed me…read morethat she could do a plank for at least one minute. She was 86 and I was 38...I couldn't manage 30 seconds. I had taken Pilates with Deb 8 years ago after I had my first child when she was located in Rockford. I realized that was exactly what I needed to get my body back in shape. Deb is an amazing instructor and definitely pushes you but not too far, as she is always cognizant of your movement and body position. Less than a year later, I have lost 35 pounds and gained so much muscle, flexibility, energy and clarity that I feel as good as I did in my early 20's. Everyone should be doing Pilates and a great place to go is the Pilates Advantage!

The studio was nice and clean but Deb the owner wasn't very welcoming. You had to purchase private…read morelessons first, which I was fine with since I had never taken Pilates and one on one is always nice. The lessons were okay but Deb didn't make me feel comfortable enough to ask questions, she seemed stressed and agitated for all three lessons. But I stuck with it and bought more classes because it was close to my job and because I had heard so many good thing about how beneficial Pilates is. The last straw for me was when I asked a question as we were doing an exercise and Deb literally SNAPPED AT ME in front of the other three females!!!! I was so embarrassed. And the reason I was having issues was because the tension of the machine wasn't right- once Deb realized it she fixed it but with a slight attitude. Even the three others in class kind of looked uncomfortable that she had gotten so pissed off for no obvious reason. If your a newcomer to Pilates I wouldn't suggest this place. Pilates isn't cheap and its not worth it if THE OWNER doesn't want to help you to learn!! I'll stick with Core Power Yoga!

Going to class at Balanced Barre has become as fundamental to my weekend routine as say... eating…read moreor sleeping. That is how phenomenal this place is. Barre fitness at it's core is a combination of yoga, pilates, and strength training that utilizes the ballet barre to assist with alignment as you sculpt and tone your entire body. An amazing workout that is accessible to people of all ability levels! I'm obsessed. Now on to the specifics that make Balanced Barre so special. It was recently opened last November by Tina, who has been teaching pilates for a long time and has wanted to have her own place for a very long time. Tina is one of the best fitness instructors I have ever had and that means a lot considering I have taken classes from upwards of 50 different instructors. The seriousness with which she approaches each class is so impressive, and she takes time to do adjustments on each student to make sure we are doing all of the postures right. Her taste in music is great and she does all of the reps along with us for the entire class, which is something you learn to deeply appreciate once you have either (a) taught a fitness class yourself or (b) taken class from an instructor that consistently sits there and guides, but doesn't actually do the moves. PLEASE do yourself a favor and try this style of movement and this particular studio. You'll be hooked - I promise!

What a great workout! I bought a package to BB after a yelp event a few months ago. I have been…read moreable to try the Barre Amped class and the one with cardio. The cardio class was defiantly harder but they both really push you. It was nice to go to a class that was different than the standard yoga or gym strength training. I shake every time so I know it is working. The atmosphere is great as well. All of the instructors keep the class upbeat and have great music pumping. The classes are never too crowded and there is no judgment. Scheduling is amazing with BB. Buying packages and signing up for classes is extremely convenient and easy. I've even been able to bring some friends and have them use some of my sessions. Overall I do think the classes are pretty affordable and the packages make it even more affordable. Give Balanced Barre a shot and you won't be upset! The only difficult part is getting to class on time. I can never make it to the 5:45 sessions so I stick to the weekends.
