I only come here when I have literally no other choice and even then I'd rather suffer than be here. After sitting here for close to two hours (and still waiting....) I have gone in, had my vitals checked, and that's it. They haven't taken a single person in since I've arrived (and the room is almost full). When I went back to get my vitals checked the rooms were empty, people were sitting at their desks, nothing was happening. I'd love an answer as to why it takes seemingly forever to check out a patient. read more

I can't believe the reviews I am reading here about MGH. Was I in the same place becauce the place I was in didn't seem like I was being treated as the Four Seasons. On Saturday I went to my pharmacist and asked her if there was anything I could take to help with the symptoms and pain I was having. She said you need to see a Doctor don't wait til Monday. So I went to MGH Medical Walk-IN-Unit on Sunday May 1, 2011. My symptoms were fever, sever pounding headaches which seemed worst than having a migraine,dizziness, stomach pain, chills, unable to swallow, pain running down my legs and unable to eat or sleep for four days. I waited at MGH for about 2 hours at which time I saw a Dr Herb Lin who I found to be rude and unprofessional. You talk about " Patients Rights And Responsibilites" If all you need is a computer to diagnose someone than I can do that because that is what Dr Lin did. (Do you think Doctors are on Facebook) I sat there while he typed away as his computer only to take a quick look at my throat then made his diagnosis. A real doctor would have check my glands, my stomach, my head, my legs. You would think with such a prompt diagnosis that there should only be a 10 minute wait as it seems Dr Lin must be getting paid by the number a patients he see's. This really puts a bad taste in my mouth. I not saying this is a bad place but at least stay away from Dr Herb Lin. read more

Do Not and i repeat do not go here ... the doctors are so rude and inconsiderate to your feelings and make you so uncomfortable everyone here seems to hate their jobs. You will wait almost 2-3 hours just for them to prescribe you something and don't even take the time to exam the problem and here you explain. This must be the worst walk in clinic possible. My doctor was extremely and looked at me as if i was some kind of idiot when i did not understand what she was talking about and i asked her more info on it. I went to the walk in clinic and they were amazing there. The Nurse who admitted me and took my information was extremely nice. I only waited approximately 20 minutes and the doctor who saw me was also so nice and she listened to everything I was concerned about. Not once did I feel rushed or that they were just telling me something to move on. They even called me back to make sure my symptoms went away. I would highly recommend this walk-in clinic if you need to go somewhere that is non-emergency. The only thing that I wasn't aware of is that you had to register with the MGH Hospital. The room was around the corner and that took maybe 10 minutes. Again, it was an easy process. read more

This place close at 8PM...however, the nurse or Doctor...or front staff..who shall remain unnamed was too LAZY!!!! I called before arrival to ensure they close at 8pm. Call was made & was reassured hours are until 8PM. However, upon arrival at 6:45PM, the front desk indicated they were closed. I asked the following: "why is this closed, when you typically close at 8PM..." The front desk replied "we typically close at 8pm, however, .the nurse is tired so she closed and is seeing her last client now...." On the verge of an allergic reaction...the only phrase i heard was.... "The nurse is tired...." is all i remember. For a second i thought to myself...i must be at a nail salon....oooh no....i was at MGH! i would expect this type of service elsewhere but here....i'm just surprised! read more

Not really an emergency? Don't really want to wait it out either? I'm with ya. That's one of the reasons I've come here. There can still be some decent wait times - longest wait I had was about 45 mins, during flu season - but it has always beat out the EW at MGH by HOURS! With some tingling in my foot and hand, I walked (a funny walk, I'm sure, cause it felt like my foot was asleep...) in to see what I could accomplish. The doctors I saw brought in other people from other parts of the hospital to see me, which took less time than I thought, and then put me into inpatient care from the walk in clinic. Whoa. The doctor's seem decent here, perhaps a bit detached, but if your sick and don't have a doctor it doesn't seem like a bad place to be seen. However the staff can be hit or miss, ranging from curt and efficient to unfriendly, uncaring, and argumentative which makes this place really hit or miss as far as a pleasant experience goes. And auguring with people whom are ill as opposed to trying to help them, really is unprofessional. read more

My normal doctor is in Brighton, and yes I could get on the 57 bus and go there but knock on wood I don't get sick that much... If I have something I think can be solved easily with antibiotics like the 4 sinus infections I had last year from my disgusting mold infested apartment (I've moved since...yay!) - I'd go here. You do have to get a bluecard but after that all you have to do is wait in the waiting room until a dr calls you. They take your temp and blood pressure then someone calls you in and you explain your problem. You're given a general exam for what's wrong, diagnosed, pay your copay and your off. They can call in any prescription to the CVS right across the street. It's super easy to get to on the Red Line MGH stop of course. I'd definitely reccomend it for a cold or sprained ankle, anything complicated I'd go to your normal GP. read more

Dr. Goodman literally saved me - I have been battling a stomach issue for a few days. That involved a stint at MGH ER for over 14 hours. I had to leave ER because doctors were paged 5 times, but no one showed up for 5 hours. The following day I came into MGH urgent care unit highly dehydrated from stomach trouble, close to passing out. Dr. Goodman was very thorough in her review, she really took the time to listen. They gave me some electrolyte drinks that made a huge difference, did a few blood tests and made sure that I did not leave until my vitals were stable. She gave me a referral to see gastro doctor, which ER forgot to do! Best doctor I have seen in Boston! Thank you! read more

Basically what i was told was to visit as early in the week as possible and get there when they open. Monday mornings you will not wait, but later in the day it gets worse. I made the mistake of visiting on a friday afternoon, it was packed with about 40 people. I think after 1.5 hours I saw a doc (which for a walk in wasnt that bad) for a condition. He was excellent and had me go for some testing and in the end he hooked me up with the best docs at the hospital for the condition I had. Overall my visit was about 6 hours, which included testing, getting a blue card and waiting. The amount of time was my own fault and I shouldn't have waited til friday afternoon to go! read more

I have had to visit here a few times for not quite emergency, but pressing issues I cannot get a doctors appointment in time for. 1 star off as the wait is usually a few hours- but it is a walk in clinic, in a busy city, so you can't expect anything less. The receptionists are usually pretty nice. There have definitely been some grumpy ones, but that seems to be inevitable. They are really good about helping you figure out what to do for your insurance to get reimbursed. The doctors have always been really nice and accommodating. I have gotten in inaccurate diagnosis at times, but, again, that can happen anywhere. Overall- very convenient and helpful! No complaints here :) read more

Reviews of the MGH Walk-In clinic are quite polarising on here. I had read more negative reviews than positive ones, so I was approaching the doors today with a mild sense of dread. I could not have been more unfounded in my expectations. My experience was fine, and went as smooth is to be expected, given I'm an international tourist with travel insurance to get around. I went in around 8:45 this morning, hoping to beat the crowds. There were only a handful of people ahead of me. The receptionist/administrator informed me that I'd have to go to the international registrations office first to set up a patient number for my travel insurance/billing. Only a minor inconvenience, and really just makes sense given the need to chase international insurance providers etc. My only complaint thus far would be that, whilst the registrations office is around the next corner, the International registrations office is in an entirely different area which required directions to find. Perhaps if they were to perform renovations in future, they might put both registration offices next to or opposite each other. Only a very minor thing. After filling in the forms. I returned to the clinic receptionist who added my information and slipped me back in on the waiting list. There was a slight discomfort during my wait in that a patient sitting a few seats down from me was rocking, shaking and bemoaning her lack of access to her doctor yet. Not really the clinics fault, and I can't really blame them for it. They were very courteous in dealing with her increasing volume and disdain for waiting. Tolerance is quite the virtue! After maybe 5 minutes, I was taken in to a lovely nurse who took down notes of my stats, vitals, and my ailments, in preparation for the doctor. This woman was incredibly pleasant, and we had a small conversation about my holiday and what to do in Boston. There was never any rush to get me out as quickly as possible, and the nurse was both attentive and personable. After finishing my file, and our chat, I returned to the waiting room until the doctor became available. It was maybe a 10 minute wait. Perfectly fine by me. The doctor took me through, went over my file with me to confirm everything, then examined me. After a quick confirmation via a secondary doctor passing by, my ailment was confirmed. The doctor (Dr Black) explained it to me in an accessible level, and typed up detailed instructions for treatment, with a comprehensive list of suggested medicines to go with my prescription. With that, and handing over my forms to the receptionist thereafter, my medical journey came to an end. I left around 10:15am, but a large portion of that time was me filling out international insurance forms and trying to find the correct registrations office. Honestly, my experience was wonderful. I feel that, had I been a U.S. Citizen with domestic health insurance,you could easily halve my time there. Waiting and taking less than 30 mins all up to see a doctor and be treated is a very good turnaround. Back in my country, I could wait hours, and have. Just try to go early - I'm sure it would fill out quickly on weekends or at lunch hours. read more

I was INCREDIBLY disappointed with my service at the MGH walk in unit. They charge obscene fees (way higher than other urgent care units) - one 'clinic visit - hospital' fee and a separate 'clinical visit - physician' fee before services are even applied (each charge well over $100). They ran additional tests on me without my permission that had NO relation to the problem I went in for or diagnosis. I went in with a Urinary Tract Infection (which I knew that I had before going) and was given a $90 pregnancy test, which I was not worried about. I have very good insurance and was forced to pay $300 for this visit. Additionally, the physician I saw was wildly incompetent and clueless. This place is highway robbery. DO NOT GO HERE unless you're prepared to pay exorbitant fees for extremely poor medical care. read more

I've lived in the Greater Boston area for 4 years now while going to Pharmacy school, with my PCP in Maine. I usually don't get very sick or can tough it out until a vacation or long weekend and return to my normal doc. My usual visits to the walk-in are OK at best. However, one Friday evening I experienced pain in my chest. Figuring that I am only 21 and there couldn't be anything terribly wrong, I decided that if it still hurt by Monday/Tuesday morning, I would be the first person at the walk - in. So Tuesday morning rolls around, I'm 4th person in line at the clinic. I get called in with the nurse and explain my symptoms, one of them being difficult to breathe and pain (no past history of asthma or anything like that). She jabs at my chest with her nails (more like talons) asking if it hurt. Um, yes? She mutters something about "probably pulled a muscle" and tells me to wait. I wait until 1020 (after being there since 840 - don't ask how since there were so few people there) before I see one of the three doctors there. She reads off the symptoms the nurse wrote down, most of them being wrong and/or missing and says it's probably muscle pain and she would prescribe a pain killer. After a quick check-up, it seemed like I was about to be sent on my way with nothing more than an Rx for pain killers and no satisfactory explanation. I started insisting on at least ONE test, trying to describe my pain in more detail - major one being pain while breathing. I ended up getting an EKG and a D-Dimer blood test. Around 230 (yes, really) the results came back, both abnormal, and I was sent to the E.R. Long story short(ish), I had a pulmonary embolism (clot in my lungs), which wasn't diagnosed until 7 PM (11 hours after my initial arrival at the walk-in) and was admitted for the rest of the week. The doctor in the respitory wing told me I was very lucky to be alive and that some people drop dead instantly from a p.e. BOTTOM LINE - If you think ANYTHING could be wrong with you besides maybe the flu/ a cold, DON'T go to the walk-in! It sucks to have to advocate for your own well-being. If I hadn't done so, I'd probably be dead right now. And even though they clearly state that those with "more serious" symptoms will be seen promptly, this isn't true (I think that not being able to breathe correctly is "more serious"). I think the only thing saving this from a 1-star rating is the fact the doctor in the walk-in had remembered me from a year earlier. read more

Just straight up don't go here. You will need to actually be bleeding from the eyes to have them see you in less than 3 hours, by which point you would have wanted to go to the ER instead. I had bronchitis and my tonsils were so swollen I could barely breath. I arrived at 5pm only to be turned away as they were "too busy" to see me before they closed at 8pm. Are you joking? There were maybe 3 people in the waiting room. No offer of any other option or the slightest hint of sympathy. I hope MGH gets their shit together as they are clearly not doing their jobs right. The front desk b**** got a mouthful from me as I walked out and I'm sure she still slept well that night knowing full well that she ruins everyone's day. read more

It was the worst hospital experience I've ever had. The nurse I got was super vicious and condescending. Not only was she unwilling to help and listen but the attitude and tone of voice she gave me were so condescending. She raised her voice, almost on the verge of yelling, all in front of other patients in the waiting area as well. Maybe she is not a good representative of the place, and I hate to think someone so hateful and vicious could be a nurse. read more

MGH Walk-In Clinic is run by a bunch of elitist snobs who don't care about patients or service. Only money and bureaucracy. Gold standard! Keep that up and you'll be INfamous. Next time ask everyone walking in if they've been there before so they don't wait an hour for nothing and then have to wait 30 minutes to register and then get back in the general line to wait another hour. Unless you're urgently ill or injured, don't put up with that crap. Zero stars if it was possible! read more

I was referred here by my clinic (which is partnered with Mass General), since the clinic's radiology department was down. It was presented to me as if it was for urgent care purposes. Also, If you Google urgent care Mass General, the walk-in clinic pops up with a Google title labeling it as urgent care. It is not urgent care and you will be charged outpatient prices. Basically, it would have been cheaper for me to go to the Emergency Room than to go to this Walk-In clinic that didn't help at all. Not great help and ended up with an insane bill. Make sure you know that they will only be able to bill under "outpatient" services, which will most likely end up costing you a lot more. read more

The future of health care.... Rude, zero concern about customer service, truly pathetic. Waited over 3 hours to be seen by a doctor. Also, although they were open until 4:00 they "closed" early at around 1:30 so be weary of their actual hours. If they are "busy" they make you wait and close early, unlike most business that actually care about their customers and may actually staff appropriately. read more

Went to the MGH Walk-in unit yesterday and was really pleased with my experience. Yes, it can take a while (overall I only waited about 45 minutes to be seen by the doctor), but any walk-in clinic will have a wait. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly kind and helpful. The nurse, Amy, was really sweet and made me feel comfortable and taken care of. I was seen by Dr. Jayne Doherty who thoroughly listened to all of my symptoms and took the time to explain what our plan of action could be. My normal doctor is in Connecticut and I didn't quite want to make a visit to my colleges health services. I arrived, took a card to be called by reception, and took a seat. When I was called to reception I was asked for my "Blue Card" which I didn't have. The receptionist sent me to patient registration but first wrote my name down on the waiting list. I spent about 30-40 minutes waiting to see a receptionist (the only one) who was very nice and did all the data entry for my information. After this I returned to the walk-in unit and was again told to take a seat after the receptionist was amazed how long it took me to be entered into the system. A few minutes later I was brought into a nurse who took my blood pressure, pulse, temp, etc. She issued me a mask (since I was coughing) and then sent me back out to the waiting room. At this point I thought I had been pushed to the back of the queue and would be stuck waiting for at least two hours all because I wasn't in their system yet. It turns out that they did have the courtesy, something for which I was very grateful to keep my spot in line and keep my third wait in the waiting room short. I was brought in to see a very nice doctor who asked me a few simple questions as to what was going on and what brought me to them today. I explained everything that was going on and she checked me out, gave me a prescription to relieve my coughing and sent me on my way. She was a little detached however for a doctor seeing this many people a day I probably would be too. All in all I had a positive experience here and would recommend going if you need to see a doctor and have no where else to turn. Another upside is that they accept all major insurances! read more

The clinic opens at 8:30 but the doctors aren't showing up until 9:30. You have to wait an hour before they even arrive and then they have to settle in. Meanwhile a line is building and they will see you in the order of importance. This is not a cash clinic. People here have insurance and the only reason many people go here is because their personal doctors are booked. The lack of thoughtfulness on the doctors and hospitals end is just plain sad. I show up to my job on time and so should they. They should especially be mindful because people who are ill depend on them. I wonder who holds them accountable. They get an F in my book. 1) I received good care for a simple common ailment 2) was convenient for me because I stopped by during my work day to check in (I work at MGH) then went back to my office, and later the front desk staff called me to come back down once a provider was available to see me. 3) MAJOR DRAWBACK for me, I came to learn, is that this clinic submits their bills to insurance companies as an "outpatient hospital visit" (isn't that kind of an oxymoron?...) instead of an urgent care visit. So, while my insurance plan covers 100% of urgent care visits, it doesn't cover 100% of "outpatient hospital" and I ended up having to pay almost $200 out of pocket towards my deductible. I wish I had known this; I would have been better off going to someplace like a minute clinic instead. I guess ultimately this may be a reflection of my health insurance plan (which seemed like good plan with a well known company)...but am still giving two stars to warn others to check with their plan before going here! read more

I arrived on Monday morning, so there were a few people here. A couple of minutes - and I was receiving care. The interval between seeing a nurse and a doctor was somewhat 20-30 minutes, and it was OK, considering I was waiting for my test to be analyzed. The receptionist, nurses and the doctor were all nice, friendly and helpful. The financial staff looked a bit tired, but they were helpful also. However, the unit is busier after 11 a.m., so try to arrive early. (For me, the hardest part was to find the place - it is in the Wang building. Take elevator to 1st floor, turn left - and you are there). read more

Other than the minor confusion of having to go to the registration desk to get a blue card, my visit was perfect. I waited less than a minute to see a triage nurse then less than a meeting to see the dr. Everyone was courteous and I felt the advice I got was appropriate. Note that I suspect that the fast service I got was due to the serious nature of my condition. That said, I was unaware how serious it was until the dr told me as much. read more

I arrived at the walk-in clinic at 10am on a Sunday (they open at 9:30am). At 2:30pm (4 hours and 30 minutes later) I hadn't been seen by a doctor, so I left. They do not see patients in the order they arrive, they preference patients by severity of visit. I was extremely frustrated with their system and lack of clarity. I felt as if I wasted my Sunday. Shouldn't patients with urgent needs be directed to the ER? I will not return and I will not recommend this walk-in clinic to any of my friends or family. read more

Awful, awful place. Don't let the association with MGH fool you, this is no better than any other seedy urgent care place that caters to low-income types. You will sit in a waiting room filled to the brim with miserable people and wait **forever** (3.5 hours for me) to see a doctor. Not surprisingly, all of the staff is incredibly rushed, and will very quickly get sour with you if you volunteer one iota more about your medical case than they care to hear. Not surprisingly, the actual medical service I received was piss-poor. I'll post back with details. Luckily I have really good insurance right now, so the coverage/copay dueling match with the front office lady only lasted a couple of minutes. Others behind me weren't so lucky. I came all the way into Boston for this place, but it belongs in downtown Detroit between the plasma donation office and the methodone clinic. read more

It's not a good sign when there are long, detailed instructions posted by the receptionist's window for the three-step sign-in process. Think: Poorly-run emergency room without the trauma victims or any sense of urgency. The people working there were pretty polite, but the system they're working under sucks. I waited 2 hours after having only 3 people ahead of me, and finally gave up. No one could explain why everything was taking so long. It's just a grim, tedious, inefficiently run place; there are other walk-ins elsewhere that would be worth trying before going here. read more

Since I already had the MGH blue card the first time I used the Walk-in, I did not have to go through the procedure to obtain one. The receptionist saw me in only minutes, after which I took a seat in the very comfortable waiting room of the clinic. I have never waited longer than 15 minutes to see the triage nurse, nor more than an hour to see the doctor. I cannot fault the care I have received at the clinic, which I have used for flu, sinus infections, sprained ankle, etc. - all things that are better seen right away and no waiting for an appointment with my PCP. They can diagnose a problem, write a prescription, advise followup (including seeing your PCP for followup when they deem it necessary (seldom in my case). They accept almost every insurance, and are part of the Partners organization which is connected to other hospitals and services. I have recommended the clinic to friends and all but one have had positive experiences. The one who complained was upset that it took more than an hour to go through the whole process (get the blue card, wait your turn) before seeing the doctor. I continue to recommend this service to person who need to see a doctor NOW but are not in an emergency situation. The longest wait at the Walk-in clinic is hours shorter than the wait in the Emergency Room. read more
