I met him immediately upon entering the store, as he was sitting right near the door. His name is Dr. Pickles and he is just as lovely as the shop he calls home. The shop itself is well organized and has so many niche categories to browse and appreciate. As the shop's name suggests, they have ample signage outlining the rules and guidelines for trading with them. As a bonus, the shop (and Dr. Pickles!) are active on Instagram sharing the latest that's up with the shop. I am absolutely planning on returning to this shop during my next trip to Philadelphia.

I also grabbed some interesting vintage-y postcards that they have up by the register, and look forward to sending those out to friends and family. The store seems to never end, twisting through room after room and also an upstairs section. The labelling system is the perfect mix of chaos and clarity, which I know doesn't really make sense. I didn't leave enough time to properly look through every section, but I can guarantee that you will find something to pique your interest if that's what you come in for. A great way to spend 30 minutes if you're exploring the neighborhood or in need of some additions to your bookshelf!

The service was wonderful, and I found a book I couldn't resist taking home with me. Since their books are a third of the original retail price of the book, you can find some great deals while also supporting the Chestnut Hill Library when you shop at Hilltop! I walked out with a couple great books to add to my collection, and will be back soon to pick up some more! My favorite thing about this store is that they offer hard to find books for a great price. They have an extensive Pennsylvania section which includes biographies about many of of the small colleges dotting the southeast part of the state, and a large amount of genealogical books as well. I was strapped for time and didn't get a chance to explore the entire store, but the sections I perused left me with a great feeling about the place. The lady who helped me check out was extremely friendly as well. Have already recommended this store to a couple friends and family, and I will personally be making the trip back out as soon as next week. Highly recommend!

The owners of THIS store have been in the book business for a while. Both put in years at a large chain bookstore. They've used that experience to create a store people WANT to shop. They are extremely knowledgeable on many topics, and very friendly. The store, like many used bookstores, is a work in progress. The difference is the people, and the staff are amazing!

She said they charge half of the original price. No way were these paperbacks pushing $20 new. I declined to purchase. I looked up the prices when I got home and NEW the books were in the $7-8 range.
