Totally in love with this place. As soon as I touched down in CDMX, I started searching for a good seafood restaurant, even though the city is inland-- I knew there had to be great seafood in the city given the size and the fact that it's the capital. I was right. I looked at a few pics from Mi Compa Chava and made a beeline to the restaurant after dropping my bags off. Unfortunately, the scallop dish that I really wanted was not available. However, everything else that I had did not disappoint. We feasted. We had everything from fried fish to oysters on the half shell to ceviche to grilled shrimp. The grilled shrimp were the best shrimp that I've ever had probably in life. The serving was humongous and the flavors were out of this world. While this place is on the pricey side compared to other Mexico City restaurants, it is affordable for seafood and for the quality of seafood when compared to US based restaurants. If you want a break from street tacos, come here. Be aware, however, that there is usually a wait for tables. read more

We squeezed in Mi Compa Chava for a light second dinner and let me tell you it was the best decision ever! This is a place you want to go to for fresh seafood in a relaxing ambiance with fast service! Beware that they get lines and they are long but this place is so worth it! We had the following items here: * tuna tostada - this was fresh and absolutely deliicious - all the flavors went perfectly well together and I would definitely order as many of these as your stomach can fit! * shrimp taco - this was wrapped in crispy cheese and had the most flavorful fresh shrimp ever. Wow! We came here for lunch and it totally exceeded my expectations! We didn't have a reservation so we timed it for when they opened. We arrived a couple of minutes early and there was already a line but luckily we were seated right away. About 30 min later a wait had already started. We weren't sure what to order so based on the recommendation of our waiter we got the shrimp aguachile verde, octopus/fish tostada, fish quesabirria, and grilled shrimp. While we were deciding to order they sent out a complimentary fish fried taco for each of us as well as a cup of seafood broth. Both were lovely and really nice touches. First we got the aguachile and tostada. Both were super yummy, the aguachile was tangy with raw shrimp and cucumber/red onions to accompany it. I also loved the octopus/fish tostada topped with avocado and with a layer of mayo spread. It really felt substantial and even one was pretty filling. My partner enjoyed the fish quesabirria which was rich and comforting. Good for those who don't enjoy raw seafood as much. Finally the grilled shrimp or camarones sarandeados! This was really the highlight with such a nice char flavor, the shrimp was tender, fresh and super satisfying. It was served with a creamy mayo based sauce but it didn't need it at all as there was no much goodness in the shrimp. Mi Compa Chava is a really delicious spot for seafood. The biggest downside is that they don't take reservations! So expect to wait for a table. That said, I think it was worth the wait. We got the ceviche and shrimp tostada, both of which were super tasty and fresh. The portion size of the ceviche was significantly larger than I was expecting too! We also ordered the fish of the day which was extremely good. It's an entire fish that comes with beans, rice, avocado, etc. so keep that in mind when ordering. This is an absolute must if you visit Mexico City. If you go around 4:30/5:00 your wait will be less but is 100% worth the wait. Everything we ordered I would order again and try all the other items on the menu. The fried fish was seasoned and cooked to perfection, the addition of the spicy mayo dipping sauce just took it over the edge. Other favorites were the grilled shrimp - the char!, the tostada on the chireron , and the one that looked like a seafood sundae (sweet, spicy sauce). Also get a margarita. I know I sound super basic getting a margarita in Mexico, but it is soooooo good. Not too sweet, acidic, boozy- it is what all margaritas dream to be! Touring the city I stumbled upon this place that had previously been mentioned as a"must eat" location in CDMX by a local friend. The location was packed with patrons for lunch, and for good reason, it's excellent!!! It's a small yet busy restaurant in the city serving seafood at great prices. The smell in the air is of the sea, mixed with the aroma of the fried battered fish. When I travel I make sure the places I eat are clean, safe, and tasty and these checked all those boxes. They start you off with a small cup of of consommé to get the taste buds flowing. Their menu filled with options from Fried fish, shrimps, crustaceans all of them which would beg to be ordered with how appealing it all meshed in their menu. We went to eat here during the weekend. The wait was 1.40 minutes, I would recommend going during the weekday since we noticed a huge difference in people waiting then. I want to note- we were present the weekend of the niners football. Honestly, I also think they need to turn the tables a bit quicker, while we waited we saw a party of 3, no food with only 1 person with a drink sit around for the entirety of our wait. We ordered based off the suggestions of our waiter. He was pleasant, patient and knowledgeable. They start with a consume and a small taco, which is great after the wait. We skipped on the black aguachile although I do hear it's good. The aguachile is good, I do feel like I have had better. My favorite- The tuna tostada was really delicious, especially if you enjoy sushi. Reminds me of sashimi or carpaccio slices, soy sauce base. It's big, so make sure to enjoy at the beginning. Fish taco was fresh, bigger pieces that made it difficult to take bites. A bit underseasoned. My favorite is the shrimp. They are perfectly grilled, easily stripped off the shell. The dipping sauce pairs great. We were impressed and wished we had room for more of this dish. Overall, it was great to try. I do not think I'd return if I had to wait that long. read more

Came for dinner and it is a very casual and laidback vibe!! The portion sizes are definitely shareable so order a few things for the table and eat family style! The ceviche is all seafood (shrimp, octopus, fish, and scallops)...it has a lil bit of a kick but not too much. GET HERE EARLY, THERE WILL BE A LINE. I arrived with my friends around 11:30 AM and there was already 8 people in line. I believe they opened around 12 PM. The wait wasn't too bad. The weather was nice and there was plenty of shade. The restaurant was physically open with the staff having breakfast. It was nice to see the layout of the place. The front framed the entrance and what would be big windows but without the glass. It was inviting. It was the first place we ate at since arriving in town. What we ordered: 1. Aguachile Negro de Camron 2. Chicharron de Pescado (but they sold out) 3. Tostada de Sierra Estilo Colima 4. Camarones Zarandeados 5. Torre de Mariscos Everything was fresh and delicious! The service was great! The only downside was that we were the 3rd group to be seated. We placed our order for the Chicharron de Pescado (one of their popular dishes), a minute later..they told us they were sold out. I feel like that our waiter should have known that since the place that opened. The place just opened and they already sold out? It was annoying but the rest of the food made up for it. This place is incredible! We had two of our FAVORITE dishes in CDMX (of many favorites). Quesadilla Birria was incredible! And the Compra Camaron (or something that sounded that like, it is essentially like grilled cheese around shrimp) we saw on Instagram. DID NOT DISAPPOINT. We ordered a third item which was also great, but these two are what we are coming back for! We went to the Mi Compa Chava in Coyoacan--which doesn't seem to be listed in Yelp. Food was great and I would definitely give it a five stars except for the bad taste left in my mouth from noticing that three of the four closest tables had ordered the same shrimp as we did. Different wait staff had recommended the most expensive dish on the menu! The one table without the same shrimp dish were definitely regulars. Sad because friends had do highly recommended this location and the grilled shrimp were good though not as interesting as the other dishes. And again at least twice as much as almost everything else on the menu. read more
