So this is Tex-Mex and/or some Jalisco Mexican, sort of, made for the farmers and ranchers that live around Brady. That said, it's good, and there's plenty of it. Of the mexican/tex-mex options in Brady, this is probably my favorite. It's one of the few places I'll order the shrimp because they're big and fresh, a great value after a long day - especially in the winter. No place has great queso or salsa - I'd love to find a place with really good pico (vs. salsa), so it's all pretty much the same... but their entrees really shine here and are fresh-crafted in the kitchen. Used to come here frequently about 12 years ago, was driving through town when I saw it and had to pull over for nostalgia purposes. They only allow 8 people maximum to be seated, so if you have a big group you'll need to go elsewhere. Ordered to go, but the restaurant was clean and it's comfortable inside! Their food tastes the same as it did years ago, so they are indeed consistent! I ordered chips & queso and an enchilada dinner. Chips were a bit tough and their queso is more so creamy with a good bit of flavor. I'd say the queso flavor resembles chili powder. Their enchiladas are on the smaller side, rice was a bit dry, but I enjoyed their beans! I'd say this is a decent meal if you're craving Mexican food, but it also somewhat resembled a frozen dinner flavor wise. It was exactly what I was looking for in the moment! read more

Decided to try an eat in place instead of fast food. Pros: -nice inside and decor -appeared clean, but didn't see the restroom -pico is great has cilantro -seasoned chips -steak fajita meat is yummy taste like it's marinated -guacamole was good taste homemade -ground beef in crispy taco was ok -fajitas had a char on them, but in a good way not burnt Cons: -staff was not that friendly and did not smile -water is tap -queso is watery and not pleasant -rice is dry -tortillas aren't homemade The Enchiladas were not the best, but they weren't bad either, wouldn't order again. Surprisingly better than most small town Mexican restaurants. Service was just the best it could be. Beer was flawless and icy with a little salt and lime. The Mexican combo plate had a little if everything included. I'm usually a creamy or cheesy enchilada guy, but each of these were just delicious! Passing through Brady with my stomach on E, Mi Familia appeared to be the best that this town had to offer. The restaurant didn't look bad and had a decent layout, with a bar and two seating areas. The cantina/bullfighter/Aztec decor was typical but implied forethought and a good deal of effort to make this restaurant succeed. That I appreciated. What I didn't appreciate was the dirtiness of the place. For one, the place smelled bad as soon as I stepped in the door. I worked as a janitor for several years (yes, seriously), and I know the acrid rotting smell of using an old mop to mop the floors. Combined with the dirty-looking K-Mart tile used on the floor, I about walked out. Then we were seated next to a window seat, that had these huge long-dead moths trapped against the glass, not to mention other bugs and grime. Gross. To top it off, there was what looked like soil collected in the bottom of my water. Needless to say, I didn't walk out because I was starving. Also being a vegetarian in Texas has taught me a lesson in humility. About all I could scrape together sans meat from the menu was three rice tacos. Basically, Spanish rice in three taco shells. The lettuce, tomato, and cheese were lightly sprinkled on top of the tacos, making it look like a literal "taco salad" when served and made filling the tacos with the cheese but not the heated-to-gummy-grossness lettuce nearly impossible. I do have to say that the waitress was very nice. The cashier, however, seemed upset and would not make eye contact with us as we paid, which was even more disturbing, as I think she was the restaurant's manager. read more

We have been staying in Brady for over a month now and we're very hesitant to try this Mexican restaurant because of the reviews. A buddy of ours tried it out and said it was mediocre and the queso was bad. We finally decided tonight to give it a try. We went around 9pm so there was only one other couple eating. So the service was great. I did receive refills just fine unlike other reviewers. My boyfriend said his beer was better than the bar and grills beer. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce after asking our waitress what the most requested items were. Let me tell you, these enchiladas were damn good. They were 100% better than I was expecting them to be. And if you've ever found a Mexican restaurant that you love and compare it to the rest like I do you know that comparing certain foods may be bias. I've had some of the best sour cream enchilada in Georgetown TX at dos salsas so nothing really beats their food. But I will say that these enchiladas got really close. Best thing is that the sour cream was not curdled like a lot of places have. If you don't know what to order, just get the sour cream enchiladas. You won't be disappointed. It was late, about an hour before closing, and with the exception to the "other server" who checked in on me after being served food/drink and refilled my beverage, the employees here couldn't have been more uninterested in serving me and making me feel welcome. Tonight the young woman who waited on us never brought chips & salsa...I saw some being taken to another table after their food was delivered...but not us. We got one iced tea, no refills. Stopped here for lunch on Sunday since our usual bbq place was closed for Memorial Day weekend, glad we did. The food was real good & the service was even better but my favorite thing was the hot sauce, or should I say not hot sauce. Most places have hot sauce that is to hot for this wimp & if it is mild enough for me it just tastes like tomatoes but not here, it is very mild but has a ton of flavor. First, this review is not about the quality of the food but more on the location and the service. I went there for dinner, when I got sat down I ordered a beer. It took a few minutes until I was served, but the lady was not my waitress and she didn't stay long enough to take my order. It took what seemed an eternity before my server came to see if i was ready to order (was probably 10+minutes). by that time I had looked through the menu and I was not really impressed or attracted by anything. After a long day of work/school, what's better than some chips and salsa and a margarita? We stopped in for just that. After already eating dinner and going back to our hotel, we stopped in for some dessert, a drink, and some salsa and guac. The server seemed a little awkward, and kept checking back to make sure our order was correct. The margaritas were pretty good, not the best, but good. The salsa was spicy and the chips had a dusting of spices (chili powder?) which made it extra spicy. The portion of guacamole you get was very small for the price you pay. Let me tell you Mi Familia is up there with my most favorite Mexican Restaurants!! I played in a golf tournament and I was starving! I was not when I left. The restaurant was clean and the server was pleasant. My party and I showed up at a very slow time (after lunch and before dinner) and there were about 4 other tables busy. The menu is standard food and nothing new or specially made. I ordered the cheese enchilada plate and it came out tasting just like my grandmother would make! The cheese enchiladas had chopped onion inside nice and crisp just like they are supposed to have. The beans were perfection. As we left we noticed the staff was all sitting together eating there dinner and this didn't turn me off a bit! If it's good enough to feed them it's good enough for patrons. It would be FIVE STARS, but I have to drop them one for the initial impression. "We ain't from around here" as we were on our annual 4th of July road-trip from south of Denver to the Hill Country. Walked in around 8pm on a Thursday. Waited and waited at the hostess stand. It was obvious there was only one waitress and finally after 10 minutes another woman advised us they were short staffed. After 20 minutes we were properly greeted and walked to our table. The waitress was working hard, but took the time to talk with us and immediately made us think it was worth the wait. Modelo in the big glass with salt and lime calmed me down even more. The steak fajitas and steak burritos were excellent. So tender and seasoned perfectly. Everything came out in a timely fashion which we couldn't believe. So I guess they short the front of house, but the kitchen was fully staffed, made it right, and was quick about it. Your run of the mill Tex Mex joint. I stopped on the way through to San Angelo after passing this restaurant probably 100 times on my trips home from Austin. The feel of Mi Familia is comfortable with it's Mexican art and relaxed service. Fajitas are a good way to test a Mexican restaurants chops and theirs underwhelmed. There was a strange glaze on the meat, the sides were bland and the tortillas were stiff. Also, what reason would you have to add a whole lemon to a fajita plate? They are very cheap if you think you have been overcharged (which happens often) you are in for a fight to get your check corrected. The food has always been mediocre, service about the same (no one smiles, no one is happy to see you, no one knows the meaning of customer service or hospitality!) - and then to top it off, when you go to pay your check the cashier is so put out.
