Woohoo! What a fantastic "find"! From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave, you're treated like family. We were greeted right away, seated, & had drink orders taken right away. We started with a 1/2 order of onion rings. Yes, my pic shows a 1/2 order! Totally crispy & delicious! I ordered the daily special (fried fish) & my husband had hamburger steak. The fish, hush puppies, & okra were perfectly fried. The Cole slaw was creamy & definitely homemade. My hubby loved his hamburger steak, gravy, & grilled veggies. Everything was cooked just right & tasted homemade. My lunch ended with a cupcake. Gotta love that! Lots of locals were eating lunch here. That's always a good sign. Been on my bucket list for awhile. Let's explain here; middle of nowhere feed store that eventually became a flourishing community hub. Gas station, cafe, and feed store. Sounds like small town Texas doesn't it? It's rare that I take the car club into an unexplored restaurant. But, there was confidence. Yelp profile? Not so much; but a recent feature on a Texas centric TV show called the Daytripper. Enough for me to take a chance on Jacoby's. Said family also has an east Austin eatery but I don't dine after five. High time I lead some cars out to Melvin, Texas. Left Bee Cave and took every curvy road I could because sports cars. Took longer to arrive than taking straight roads but we're now sitting down in the cafe. Uhhh, where are the steaks from your own private heard? Dinner menus delivered to the table. You can't stop staring at the desserts at the end of the bar. Onion rings were amazing. Don't think artful or presentation here folks; think squirt bottle of ranch. Still need more but saving for the main course. Steak was delivered and the GF cut off her personal hunk. First thoughts is to compare the dining adventure with Hilltop Cafe and Johnny Nicholas at Hilltop Cafe. If you build it they will come. I think the term "home made" is used WAY too much these days. Jacoby's nails this category. Simply prepared great steak, veggies, salad, and desserts. Staffers even protected the desserts with wrap in between servings. It was good to walk in and dine; locals dressed to a "T" because this is a special occasion restaurant for them. I bought a hat. First time in forever I'm wearing supporting carb. Great little county cafe. Attached to the feed/hardware store so you can grab supplies on your lunch break and head back to work. Grabbed a bacon cheeseburger and hand cut fries to go. Good burger, great fries. Ordered food, went back and ordered the feed and supplies I needed, picked up food and met the forklift to load everything else. Very convenient and friendly, and a good stop on a road trip if you're nearby. read more

I don't really honestly believe the food is 5 stars. Great burger. Great steak fingers. But 5 stars is a high bar. More like solid 4. But then you get a 6 star slice of strawberry cake and a cinamon roll along with welcoming service and the math averages to 5 stars. Love this place. Very friendly staff. We ordered the stuffed steak with fries and a small salad ( comes with it and I think it's the perfect size) and golden mushroom cheese burger with onion rings. My goodness, amazing food! I argue that my burger was better than the stuffed steak but you can't go wrong either way. The onion rings were top shelf. Fries were great. Left with a slice of strawberry cake and ranger cookies and both were fantastic!! read more

If you are reading this review, it's because two things are true: you are NOT a local and you're willing to drive off the main road to try something new. As a result, you are going to both enjoy the food and feel like you are entering someone's house. First the food. It was great. Everything I tried from someone else's plate was a wonderful event. The fries were PERFECT. The chicken nuggets with gravy were as good as it gets. The sweet potato fries were the way I like them: very well done without the pile of sugar. I only regret I didn't order or try someone's burger. That's why I stopped. Once I got here, I saw someone with a chicken fried steak. So of course, I get distracted easily and that's the way I went. Started off with a side salad which was very cool and fresh. The side crackers were labeled "Premium" and I have this childish joy. They WERE the best Premium crackers. Perfect & buttery. I was expecting it to be some bulk purchase discount with fake news labeling. Not. They were a highlight! I had the onion rings with the CFS and they were spot ON. Two pieces of Texas toast rounded it out well. The CFS itself was well cooked, great exterior, and flavorful. Only issue was it was too chewy to be in the stratosphere of chicken fried steaks. Second the atmosphere. When you open the door, everyone in the place will stop what they are doing and look at you. Either from curiosity because not much is going on, or because you are the "newbie" in their home town. Ignore them, flaunt yourself, and sit down to some great food. read more

Amazing food. I had the Wednesday special, two soft tacos, beans and rice, and dessert! The hamburger was tasty in the taco. They didn't skimp on food. I am sure they put 6-8 oz in each soft taco. Not greasy at all! It was 100% beef, no fillers! Then it came time for dessert! There were so many great choices and our waitress said she had made them. I choose German chocolate cake and it was very moist and delicious! It was rich and a good sized slice so I shared with my sister and brother. My sister had the hamburger steak and it was really delicious, too. All of the food was fantastic. The restaurant was clean and bustling with business! We bought some ranger cookies as we checked out. They were delicious, too! They were fresh from the oven! Melvin is very small, but the restaurant is a must! Excellent breakfast in the middle of nowhere. If we hadn't seen the episode of The Day Tripper that featured Jacoby's we would have never known about it. I had the ham and cheese omelette, hash browns and toast. Salsa is fresh and made in house. The Mr has The Cowboy": Three eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. Next time we're traveling through we will stop for lunch and try a burger or steak. They raise their own beef. read more

I see why people line up and wait for open seating. You wouldn't guess a feed store has such great food but this place is fantastic. Service can be slow but you can see the team working hard and suddenly those few minutes wasn't so long. Love the vibe of the quaint only diner style restaurant. Had an incredible lunch today and had a great visit with owner of this family-owned and operated restaurant. All had cheese burgers with fried okra, onions and hand cut fries. Beef is incredible quality. The Jacoby family raises cattle, and the Feed that goes into the beef. Owner is vertically integrated and meticulously monitors entire process of meat from calf to table. And it shows. And all is prepared and served by people who are truly enjoying themselves. What a joyful experience. PS- don't miss out on the feed store behind the restaurant. Just moved here from Los Angeles to Brady. Ive been eating at home after being sadly disappointed by the Restaurants and Cafe spots. Desperately I got on Yelp this morning and Im glad I did. I looked at the pictures of Jacoby's on Yelp and couldnt believe my eyes. We ordered omletes. The Bacon was the best Ive ever had. Well worth every penny. We had a great server and even bought 2 lbs of Bacon to cook at home. The other places in Brady are awful. This place is hands down the only place to eat. Best burger and strawberry cake in TX. We drove all the way from Austin to enjoy this family cafe. The music was worth the drive alone.

I wouldn't label this Tex-mex. just TEXAS food. We ordered the pickle chips and onion rings. BEST batter I've had in a long time. Thick and crispy and served with ranch dressing... In a squirt bottle!!! For entree we ordered chicken fried steak, steak fingers and cheeseburger. Delicious cream gravy atop the chicken fried steak, well seasoned, not to salty and great flavorful beef. Same with the steak fingers. Unlike other places where the steak is hidden beneath ungodly amounts of batter it was well portioned. I thought the beef of the burger had a bit too much pepper, but I know some of my fellow Texans like it that way. Despite that. It was a dang good burger. Service was great, friendly and attentive. I'm not out here regularly, but next time I'm in town I'll be sure to stop in. read more

While this Cafe was off our normal path to Austin we decided to make the right turn in Brady and head on out to Melvin for lunch. Boy was that the right turn to make! We had been told good things about the food at Jacoby's from those we trust and they were spot on. Great iced tea, crisp salad, fresh and hot fries, and a great stuffed hamburger steak. Good selection of wines as well. I enjoyed a glass of Brennan Vineyards Cabernet (first choice was Brennan Vineyards Dark Horse but they were out at the time!) with my lunch. Service was great as was the conversation with Mr Jacoby. We are already looking forward to a return trip with friends for the dinner offerings and even more to a visit to their new project in Austin (see Jacoby's Austin). A stop at Jacoby's was a great way to start out our 14 hour (Brownwood to Melvin, Melvin to Mason, Mason to Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg to Austin, Austin to Lampasas, Lampasas to Brownwood) Saturday road trip! read more

This was SUCH a good find. A little off the beaten path but well worth the drive. Great food and great people.

Amazing! I had to meet the husband in the middle of nowhere to swap kids for deer camp and I stumbled across this place. You walk in and it smells so good and looks super cozy and inviting. The menu isn't massive but every choice you make is a good one. I had the chicken fried steak and it was tender, juicy, huge and so full of flavor. I loved the gravy it was served with and the fries were hot and crispy and seasoned just right. My kids got burgers and inhaled them in record time and asked for more. My husband had the stuffed hamburger steak and was mad at me for never thinking to make something as miraculous as it. Needless to say, we are sad we live over 5 hours away but every deer season we will be back and we might just make a long Texas day trip to eat some fantastic food! read more

This is what farm to table is all about! We finally made it to the Valentine dinner service and it was amazing. Choice of beef or pork tenderloin, a nicely chilled shrimp cocktail for starters. The choice of salad included a crisp lettuce wedge with amazingly fragrant and delicious bleu cheese crumbles. We chose the perfectly cooked beef accompAnied by delicious mashed new potatoes and the best bacon-wrapped asparagus on the planet. We have eaten at Jacoby`s about 10 times in the last 4 months and every time has been fantastic. We've had breakfast, the bacon is incredible and everything was cooked perfectly. Their hamburger steak is great, be sure you try the stuffed hamburger steak. The chicken fried steak is also awesome, but I see most people eating their hamburgers. After you have one, you'll see why. I'm told that their beef is farm raised and steroid free, not fattened up in some feed lot like the beef you buy in stores. In fact, I bought 10 pounds of hamburger from them last week when I found out you could buy fresh beef from them. I think I'll go back tomorrow and eat there again! read more
