When in Brady, I would recommend this place. The ambience is very casual indoor eating with a large menu. The Food from what I tasted: I ordered chicken fried chicken w baked potato and side salad. I loved the chicken as it was juicy but the breading just broke off. I also tried the frog legs, very good!! The fried mushrooms are excellent! A must try. Also pictured is half of key lime pie. I am not a super fan of key lime but this one I finished it! It wasn't tooo limey. I also had a bite of the sirloin and it was juicy as well and also tasted the blackened salmon, great flavor! read more

Has a good experience our first time here. Portions were plentiful, service throughout our meal from ordering to departure was spot on. Food was cooked right. Would have been nice to have the food a little more seasoned vs on the bland side and we might could have pushed it up to five stars (Green beans tasted fresh out of the can) Overall, no real complaints and we would eat here again. read more

Five stars in a rural Texas town? Yep, and here's why: Boondocks has a large menu of seafood and beef. Seafood in the literal Heart of Texas? Absolutely. Farmed and trucked in? Yes. Excellently prepared with great flavor and careful technique? Absolutely. We started with the fried mushrooms - something we don't eat often but a treat done right. The breading was light and crispy, the mushrooms hot but not nuclear, and the flavor with just enough salt and spice. The accompanying ranch dressing was buttermilk ranch and had that deep buttermilk twang. I had the blackened Mahi-Mahi, my partner had the blackened Salmon. They were both perfectly fork tender, juicy and seasoned without being "nothing but spice." The accompanying (Cajun) brown rice paired well. It was a Saturday afternoon and the place was PACKED for lunch - full of locals. This speaks highly to the consistent service, excellent food and variety for everyone. And today they really solidified my loyalty... so, there's a song that REALLY sends me into rigors because there's no other song that creates a more aggressive ear worm! Normally when cruising back and for from Midland to the Hill Country, I stop at a little place in Llano (bet you can guess which one) but I wanted something different today and rolled the dice on this place. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, which came with fries. The fries are fine, but this burger is a real show-stopper. It's an 8 ounce patty, fresh veggies, cheese, and bacon so think that Sir Mix-A-Lot could write a song about it. They pile that on a scratch made bun toasted till the interior is crunchy while the exterior is fluffy and pillowy. Honestly, this is in my burger top ten. Greatness. read more

It's always a good sign when there are local regulars in the joint!! Pretty underwhelming from the outside. Easy to miss driving by. Dirt parking lot. Etc We arrived about 5 minutes before closing, but you would never know that from the friendly & welcoming service we received!! The menu is big. There are lots of choices! I ended up keeping things simple with a burger & fries. Everything is cooked to order so it took a few minutes. In the meantime, we got our drinks which are self service. I'm not sure why I didn't expect too much, but I was really impressed with my meal. The fries were hand cut, the bun was super fresh, and the burger was big and juicy. No frozen, fast food here!! They, also, have a complimentary self serve pinto bean bar with raw onion, jalapeños, & hot sauces!! An unexpected, but appreciated extra!! Boondocks has catered our annual reunion for years. By far, this is some of the tastiest fish I have ever eaten. What makes them special is that they come out on a catering job and cook the fish on-site, so it is served fresh! The same with the French Frys and hush puppies...all hot. Give Boondocks a try! We were just passing through and stopped there for late lunch. You order from the boards and they bring your food to the table, so it's kind of a hybrid between fast food and sit down eating. We had steak bites and shrimp po'boy. Both were delicious. Boondocks is amazing. The owner told me they have "it" figured out and I totally agree. We ate there three times in about two weeks. We had catfish the first time and it was amazing. We had salads the second time and they were huge and amazing. We should have split one. The last time we visited them it was very cold and they had chicken and sausage gumbo and it was stupid amazing. They give you so much that it actually provided my wife and I two meals.
