Gave this place a second try during happy hour and didn't change my mind. Service was decent. We were at the bar area this time. Again liked the decor, they need to curate it down a little. Music and better lighting would elevate it so much. We got two different menus and got confused but apparently one was the old menu. Drinks... 6/10. My mangoneada needed more mango and tajin, it needed more flavor. My friends thought their drinks were also just ok as well. One had to ask for more hot sauce for her michelada, they only had tapatío. She said it was bland. Foods also just ok. The birria tacos were the best part, def would order again. Tortilla didn't split, good portion and the consomé was good. Cheese dip tasted like velveta. Nachos with beef were decent. Fried ice cream was not good. I've had this dish many times and it was stale and didn't taste fried. Idk if the cereal was stale or the ice cream was so frozen but it was not good. The salsa that comes with the chips is more of a tomato based and we weren't offered other salsas. We asked and got two others but the flavor was just not there. Paid about 60 bucks with tip for two happy hour items, a mangonada and dessert. Again, if the flavors were there, it would be worth and I would be back. It's such a unique space, easy to get to, plenty of parking, beautiful art in the center portion, they are so close to getting it right. read more

Casa Guadalajara was a decent, solid breakfast stop overall, but a few things kept it from being a standout experience. The building has some character with murals and heavy wood furniture, and the older structure is kind of neat, but the atmosphere felt pretty average more than anything special. We ordered the huevos rancheros and chilaquiles. Both came in good sized portions with tortillas and tasted perfectly fine , just nothing that really wowed us. Good, dependable Mexican food, but not especially memorable. Service was attentive and friendly, and it wasn't crowded on a Saturday morning, which we appreciated. The biggest issue, though, was the smell. There was a strong odor the whole time. Smelled kind of like a mix of heavy cleaner (think Fabuloso) and sewer ... and it was hard to ignore. Unfortunately, the bathroom smelled even worse. It definitely took away from the overall experience. Still a decent spot for a casual meal, but the smell made it tough to fully enjoy it. I don't think I'll be getting in the car to drive to go there, but I'm not opposed to a second chance visit. read more

Rolled up deep as always.. 28 people. We did have a small wait. Meanwhile we paid a visit to bar area to enjoy some michies! Buffet style with some menu items!. So much food! I loved it! Enchiladas, ribs, eggs, bacon, sausage, mole, menudo, fruit, drinks, and dessert o my so much deliciousness flan, pan, ice cream. Let me mention a Senora is making fresh tortillas on the spot!! In a town full of taco joints, Mi Guadalajara stands out as a delicious sit down, full service Mexican restaurant. My dear friend and I arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 1:15. There's plenty of parking, some shaded (which is a welcomed treat in this heat and strong sun!). Mi Guadalajara is large, airy, bright, and colorful. You could easily host a festive, private event there. From breakfast specials to weekday happy hour deals and Taco Tuesday specials, there's always something going on. My friend settled on Tony's quesadilla and I settled on flautas (choice of beef or chicken- I chose beef), both from the appetizer menu. They have an extensive margarita menu- small and large sizes. Something to note- chips and salsa are complimentary, including the first refill. After that, expect to pay. All in all, we had a nice time. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more! They even have a fun faux Ivy wall inside with the restaurant logo, a perfect opportunity for photos with friends and family. This is great place for a celebration dinner. I used to come here often for their Sunday brunch before covid and they had to stop doing it. I was so happy to hear they had finally brought it back recently! I still haven't gone back for the brunch but I did go to a family dinner here on a Sunday evening. We had a party of 20 and the service was excellent. Our server handled our table perfectly by himself. The decor inside was cute for the holidays. They had lights and a big tree in the middle of the restaurant along with gift wrapped pictures all around. The food was okay. My tamale was really dry even with the enchilada sauce that came on top of it. The beans were very good. I tried the chile verde and my bite was good. I think everyone was happy with their meals. This restaurant has some nice decor reminds me of the restaurants you would find in Old Town. The staff is all very friendly and provides good service. The food I would say is a step up, but similar to what you would find at El Torito or other Mexican restaurant chains. They have tacos, enchiladas, burritos, combo plates, soups, etc. a nice variety to choose. They provide you with warm chips and very mild salsa as an appetizer while you wait for your meal. Our server was Melissa and she was super attentive and always had our drink cups filled. We ordered: - Large menudo, this had a good amount of meat, but I wish it had more hominy. The broth had good flavor, but was missing salt and some heat. It's served with tortillas, limes, onions, and cilantro. - Two combo plate, we choose a wet burrito with shredded beef and chicken enchilada. It's also served with refried beans and rice. The beans had good flavor and the rice was ok. The wet burrito was a good portion. - Cucumber lime agua Fresca was delicious and very refreshing, served with pieces of fresh cucumbers. Mi Guadalajara is now featuring an outstanding Sunday Brunch Buffet! Since they're my favorite Mexican restaurant in Esco, I was excited to check it out and everything was excellent. I was really impressed with the thoughtful balance of Mexican and American favorites, serving both breakfast and lunch type dishes. It's quite the varied spread that would satisfy just about anyone. I particularly enjoyed their Mexican shrimp cocktail, house-made tortillas, omelets, pork adobada and a penne pasta dish with diced ham tossed in a flavorful Mexican-style cream sauce. There's also a nice selection of sweets and desserts. Brunch is served every Sunday from 9am - 2pm and very reasonably priced for all you can eat. Mi Guadalajara could almost be one of those restaurants you see in a classic movie, complete with its round rotunda, cultural murals and time period furniture. We tried the fish ceviche platter which was more of a family style portion. It came with cucumbers in addition to tortillas along with orange slices sprinkled with Tajin that partly soaked up the lime. Also had to try the combo steak and chicken fajitas which came with fluffy rice, beans and tortillas. The kids got carne asada tacos and a burger kids meal. But the stars of the show were their own versions of kids margaritas in strawberry and guava which made our kids happy. The restaurant is easy to find along one of the main roads in Downtown Escondido and there's ample parking all around. And there's a photo wall in the front for photo ops. read more

Stopped by last night for a quick bite after church. First thing to note about this place is the parking! Parking is super ample and allows for lots of vehicles. You won't have trouble at all! As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted and sat almost immediately. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night. The inside is super cute with artsy textured murals all around us. Our waiter, Maylyn, was super sweet and gave great service. I ordered the one entree combo dish, choosing the enchilada with rice and beans (all combos come with that). I had the option of red or green salsa and went with green, absolutely delightful. The tomatillo green sauce was to die for. The beans were just so palatable and delicious. My husband ordered the menudo, which came in a big bowl with toppings and a choice of flour or corn tortillas. We both really enjoyed our meals. As soon as we sat down, a sweet busser lady brought out complimentary chips and salsa. She was super attentive and replenished our salsa and chips twice. I really like this place. Big fan since the 80's. I particularly love the bacon wrapped shrimp. The margaritas are absolutely PERFECT. Yeah, the problem is with the new building's acoustics - somehow the design of the building makes for a very noisy environment. That's unfortunate. Their combo chicken/steak Molcajete is my all time favorite. I wish my photo did it better justice because it's truly so good and I've yet to find anywhere else locally that even comes close. I can't really speak to other menu items, but from what I've gathered from family and friends, everything else is just "good". The restaurant itself is very nice; centrally located in Escondido and very lively and authentic feeling. They have Mariachi on Friday nights so just a heads up that it can get a bit loud! Service is always efficient and I typically put my name in online before coming in to help with wait time. Will continue to return here for the Molcajete! read more

I very much enjoyed the food here. The ambiance was very interesting, with lots of 3D artwork lining the vauled ceilings depicted in colorful nude women as an homage to the Mexican culture. The food was 10/10. We ordered so much food, and there was plenty left over. It is a bit on the pricey side, but the quality was quite good. My brother's burrito was incredibly stuffed, and about 4 inches in diameter, the ceviche was a pile of shrimp, and the flan was very well made. I really liked the way they cooked the shrimp - it was not rubbery or too soft. The quesadillas were stuffed with cheese and ever so slightly crispy on the outside, but not dry. The staff were on top of getting our orders out, as well as checking in on us regularly to make sure we were happy with our food and drink. I will be coming again! read more

We have been going to Mi Guadalajara for decades, back to when they were in a little house. It used to be a favorite, but sadly we had our last meal there today. They must be under new ownership or just cost cutting. Hard tacos are pre made shells like Taco Bell and not cooked in house like any good Mexican restaurant. The chips were delivered in a small basket that was only 1/4 full. When we asked for more, we were told that we would be charged for a third basket.
