My family has driven by Mi Ranchito for years always meaning to one day eat there. Its always full of people every day. So we were wondering if its good. We finally tried it back in March. We had a very good experience. My one big gripe about the place is the ambience. The restaurant is maze like, and depending on where you're sat, your experience will greatly differ. If your sat in the front room, looks nice and pretty comfortable. We were sat in the back, not so nice, not so comfortable and the music was a bit loud. The on the house chips and salsa were good, and we ordered a spinach dip to start. The dip was weird. It was soupy, very liquid in consistency. We did not like it at all. My brother ordered the shrimp sizzling skillet for his main. No joke, if was sizzling all right. My brother absolutely enjoyed it! He has not had a good sizzling skillet like that one in years and he was supremely happy! I ordered the choripolo, which i also enjoyed. The chicken and chorizo were so flavorful, i cleaned that plate! My mom had an enchilada and a taco, she also liked quite a lot. Our server was attentive. So no issues with service. They need to make the dining experience a bit more consistent and certainly improve on that spinach dip. Either than that, it's a great place for a good meal! read more

This has to be the busiest restaurant in Van Wert on a Saturday night. I was on my way home from Ottawa and stopped in to order a meal to go. I ordered a vegetarian combo of chimichanga, enchilada, beans, and rice, with a side of guacamole. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The guac was fresh and creamy. The salsa was a perfect texture, with a little heat, and very good. Chips were warm and fresh. This is a convenient location if you are driving on US 30. Fast service, large portions, good food, and reasonable prices. If you are a frequent traveler along US 30 (like me) you know there are few restaurant options besides fast food. This restaurant is a very convenient location, just off the exit. I call ahead to order, pick it up, and I'm back on the road quicker than going through any fast food drive-thru. Healthy options available too. Vegetarian fajitas were excellent with sautéed broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Very flavorful, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Beans, rice, chopped fresh vegetables, sour cream, and a large scoop of freshly guac were served with the fajitas. Chips were fresh and salsa had good flavor with a spicy kick. read more

Great service and delicious food. This place is great. Service was excellent. José was very attentive without being obnoxious. I had the chicken steak and shrimp fajitas. There was a healthy portion of grilled tomatoes, peppers, and onions. I love the veggies. Barbie had a beef chimichanga with some beef tacos. She only ate one taco because she got full on the chimichanga. Just a side note, we always taste each other's food. The chimichanga was superb. If we are ever back in area, we will eat there again. read more

I've been in town for a couple of weeks and after visiting and eating at different places, I keep coming back here. I've been 4 times thus far and all the dishes I've had have been very tasty. I had the tacos de carnitas, which were very generous and the meat was great! In normally ask for a hotter salsa and it complements them very well. I also had the shrimp cocktail (cóctel de camarones) and it was spicy...but I like hot food. It was good to me but maybe for others might be a bit hot. Tacos de asada were also very good. They came with a side of tasty beans. Like any Mexican restaurant, they give you chips and salsa when you arrive. The only problem? They only have Pepsi products. Mexican tacos taste much better with Coke in a glass bottle...my personal and humble opinion. They also have a good variety of Mexican beer...all of them bottled. The staff professional, friendly, courteous. Things I liked and disliked. The frozen margarita, Mexican rice, refried beans, chips and salsa were awesome. The main course item's enchiladas, tamales were a 1 out of 5. I'm certain I could get both better out of a can. Tamales are always served wrapped with corn husks. It's how you know they are freshly made. The place was clean, table space was cluttered. Decor and traditional birthday songs were fantastic. Stopped by on the way home from Michigan. So delicious. Service was prompt and attentive. Many options of seating, food, and drinks. The tables and chairs are cut out into ornate designs and the walls are full of murals. I got the tacos al pastor. So tasty. They have great lunch specials as well. read more

Enjoyed a quick dinner while driving through Van Wert. Service was very friendly and helpful. Food arrived very quickly after enjoying some chips and salsa. We loved that the salsa came in a sharing style bottle that you could pour into individual cups to dip. We shared a dinner for 2. I can't remember or pronounce what it was called but we each received 3 tortillas and all the sides (beans/rice/lettuce/guac/sour cream/salsa), then shared a large skillet of shrimp, chicken, steak, veggies, and chorizo. We both loved it and left with plenty of leftovers. Definitely a good place to stop if you're passing through this town on a road trip! read more

This is a busy little place! We had chimichanga dinners that were so good and fresh. The tomato sauce on the beans was new to us and we'd just as soon left that off, but it didn't ruin the meal by any means. The quacamole was very good too! Took my daughter here after a little shopping. The staff were very attentive, the food was full of flavor, and the restaurant was clean. I ordered the chimichanga and my daughter ordered a quesadilla. We also got a side of guacamole to share with our chips. Everything was delicious! The only thing I would change is to add more cilantro to the guac, but that is obvious a personal preference. We will definitely be back. Typical Am-Mex restaurant with colorful drawings on walls & chairs; a large place noisy with dozens of conversations. I ordered pollo poblano, their specialty. The chicken was about the size and thickness of the tortilla, three of the latter were included. The meat was covered in greasy onions & string beans. There was the usual refried beans, Spanish rice and chips. The salsa was in a bottle with a small bowl to pour it in--thin sauce. I was excited to try this place after learning that they have 60oz margaritas! UM WHAT? AWESOME! And they really were delicious (& strong). The food was pretty good too. Our server was very nice and a little flirty. I'm one of those weird ppl who tip better if you playfully flirt. It shows your engaged with the table, and not there to throw food on the table and get you out. The ground beef has a definite not made daily flavor. It's like boiled. No flavor. None. Sour cream is extra. ?!?! Garnish on burritos such as lettuce tomato onion and sour cream must be requested. Red sauce drowns some of the menu items. It soon turns a chimichanga​ into a sloppy mess. You have to say go easy or have it on side. Stopped in for a late dinner on Friday night while in town to visit family. Even though it was close to closing, they greeted us warmly and never rushed us during our meal.. To start, chips were good and warm, salsa was average, chunky and mild. There was a nice selection of Mexican beers, but I just ordered a bud light which arrived nice and cold. We ordered the cheese dip, enchiladas suiza, chicken quesadilla and a taco. The cheese dip was good with a little kick, my only complaint was that it was a little thin. The stand out were the enchiladas, the pork had good flavor with nice crispy bits and it covered what tasted like fresh corn tortillas filled with cheese and covered with a a nice green tomatillo sauce that was a little bit spicy. It was served with standard beans and rice. The portions were large and prices made for a good value. I don't get into the "real" Mexican debate, this was good food and friendly service, and I would come back next time I am in town. read more

If you are looking for mexican food, you will be sorry you came here. Mi Ranchito is a watered down version of Mexican food. Very Bland (no spice) and very very basic. I ordered the Chili Relleno and got on my plate some taco bell looking meat with some type of crusty dough like substance broiled on top of it. The only thing they have going for them are the prices, very cheap. Id rate it one star above Taco Bell. read more

In town for a job me and my co worker stopped by for a few drinks the margaritas were priced really well and tasted great but the service was really slow even though we sat at the bar they had 2 rather large birthday parties going on. We went out for a cig and left our phone with our unfinished drinks when we came back they were gone I would come back one more time just because the bartender was sincere and gave us our drinks for free the food look really good read more

Its ok, there is a better option in town. Great service, food is ok, the salsa is hit or miss....depends on the batch I guess. It gets very busy on the weekends due to the proximity of the restaurant to I-30, so get there early (before 6pm), or you may have to wait for a short while.
