Made to order omlette during easter brunch
    Anthony G.

Since it opened, I have eaten and drank at R Place Stone Grill with either colleagues or family. The restaurant is comfortable, whether you are eating at the bar or at a table. It also has a beautiful outdoor seating area, which i would recommend to use during the spring-summer months. They also do have outdoor heaters, but I despise the cold too much to brave it out when it gets cold. There are constantly events done here, special menus are a thing... i would recommend always to take a look at their facebook page to see what they are up to. They serve delicious brunches, especially during holidays. I attended during both Easter and Mother's Day. All you can eat for about $25 is great, especially considering how great the food tastes and the selection. Their speciality though is dinner, and to be more clear, they are masters of steak. This place is easily in my top 5 steak places I have ever eaten in, and considering I love steak... that should tell you something. I've had the Texas Ribeye, the Sirloin and the Surf and Turf... magnificent! I love being able to cook the steak, just how I like it on a hot stone. It's one of the big things, that makes this place truly special! It all comes seasoned and ready for cooking. All you have to do, is cook it how you desire on that hot stone. It's so satisfying! Both cooking it and eating it! The smell when it cooks, the sound of the sizzle, it makes your stomach and palate appreciate the meal more. The anticipation that your senses create in you as you cook the steak, greatly increases the pleasure when you finally take a bite. You can also add things to your steak for a very small up-charge. My favorite is the Kentucky Bourbon Glaze as it makes the steak exquisite! Now, If you are not willing to try cooking your entree in the hot stone yourself, the kitchen is more than happy to make it for you. A number or co-workers did that. Although, they voiced their regret, when they saw me cook my own. They loved their steak, but they saw how much fun I was having. They also serve fish, chicken, burgers and other entrees. I've heard great things about the burgers from colleagues and my brother when I ate with them. It is on my list for future consumption. My mother and I've had the half roasted sous vide chicken. The chicken was absolutely incredible. It was perfectly seasoned and juicy. The service is excellent. The waitstaff is so attentive and personable! Everyone who works there from the front of the house staff, kitchen, managers, and owner are just so nice! I know I am making this place sound almost too good to be true, but this place is truly good. If there was anything I wish this amazing place would do would be the following: 1) Expand. They get a lot of business, and it can be a bit packed during the special holiday brunches. 2) Add shrimp as a main menu item. I really enjoyed the shrimp when I ordered the surf and turf. Sometimes you just want shrimp, because having that with a large steak is just too much. Also some others just prefer seafood over steak. If you already sell the shrimp on the side, why not also make it a main? These are just minor points, because this place is just wonderful! If you live in Van Wert and have not tried this place, you're crazy. If you live nearby whether it's Celina, Saint Marys, Lima, Convoy, New Haven or Fort Wayne, it's worth the drive!

I started with a gummy bear cocktail, which was just like drinking a strawberry Jolly Rancher. Then my date & I were served toasted ravioli as our appetizer... they were perfect! Crispy on the outside, soft & tasy on the inside. The marinara complimented the ricotta and breaded pasta well. For my meal, I had some yummy fried shrimp with cocktail sauce. I was very pleased. My curly fried potato wedges (don't call them curly fries!) were crisp on the outside & soft inside. I really enjoyed them. My side of fruit & side salad with balsamic vinaigrette were fine, neither great nor terrible. My fiancé had some delicious chili, though it was cold when served. Out waitress obliged our request to reheat it & when it came back out, it was just right. The cornbread was moist, sweet, and "cakey." I'm from North Carolina &, let me just say, the cornbread was some of the best I've had in ages. The chicken sandwich was good. We ordered some cinnamon caramel pretzel bites (like cinnamon sugar balls) to go & I can attest that they didn't last long the next day when they were warmed up. Overall, this was a nice meal in a quaint Ohio downtown. Should we return to Lima, we'll stop in at 318 again!

As our weekend wound down, we all decided we wanted to go out for a special dinner. The suggestion came to check out Ron Lahody's Trust Your Butcher Steakhouse. It's about four blocks, easily within walking distance for most and with street parking around for those not able to walk that distance, from the Courtyard and I have to admit I was in for something a bit more premium. Lahody grew up around the meat business, though entered it a bit later after some time in the Marines, graduating from Ball State, working in the family business, and then spending 22 years in home remodeling. Finally, he opened Lahody meats in 2008 and then years later made it to the actual steakhouse business. Lahody still owns Lahody Meats in Muncie, recently opened a steakhouse in Anderson, and yet this spot is the original. As a wheelchair user, I was definitely looking for something wheelchair friendly. Downtown Muncie tends to be older and you can never be certain. I'd gone wheeling around the area the day before and was pretty sure this would be safe. We made our reservation for the end of our work day and then headed over to the steakhouse. I instantly fell in love with the place. It's intimate yet finely decorated. It has the traditional steakhouse vibe with a wood, warm environment, a nicely done bar area, and a couple spots that were clearly made for accessibility. We were placed in one of those booth/tables - small yet nicely sized and none of us ever felt over-cramped. I sat at the end of the booth while my friends took the inside seats. Our server, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, was wonderful from beginning to end. The young woman was very friendly and helpful. Service was nicely paced, attentive, and never intrusive. It's worth noting that while you can eat somewhat modestly here, and they do have specials, this really is a higher-end steakhouse designed for premium dining. We ordered a couple appetizers at $15 each - candied bacon and green tomatoes. I had never tried candied bacon and kind of fell in love with it. My two peers enjoyed the green tomatoes. My peers enjoyed alcohol, a couple brews each with a solid variety available, and I enjoyed my usual unsweetened iced tea. We all ordered steaks, a definite rarity for me. One peer went for filet mignon. Myself and the other for a New York Strip. You get two sides with a steak. I saw they had roasted potatoes, an absolute favorite of mine, and I doubled an order for my two sides. Lahody himself was in-house. He's an older gent, silver-haired yet impeccably dressed. He was introducing himself to customers and sitting at the end of the bar when I left. When he thanked you for coming, the gratitude felt sincere. Service? Top-notch. Accessibility? I didn't visit the restroom, however, everything was accessible and comfortable. The steak? Oh my, I haven't had a steak this good in a long time. It was cooked as ordered and prepared beautifully. The roasted potatoes were nicely seasoned and simply sublime. This was a definite splurge for me, however, as we were celebrating finishing up a non-profit film it felt like a beautiful way to celebrate with friends in an environment where I felt welcome. There's no question I'll return.

Sharing for safety (not my story, but absolutely credible):…read more Last night . . . I just worked a 12.5-hour shift in the ER. Im in Van Wert, Ohio. I'm two hours from home, so I'm staying in a hotel. Exhausted, I decide to grab a bite and a beer before heading back. I went to this local sports bar, walk in, and take a seat at the bar. Before I can even sit down, heads turn, people staring from the left side of the bar. And in my head, I already thinking: "Here we fucking go." But I keep my cool. I ask this the lady to the left if anyone's sitting in the open chair, she says no, so I sit. I'm browsing the tap list, trying to decompress. Not even 30 seconds go by before I hear the same lady say "Trump." A group of about six or seven people are with her are chatting. Then I hear a woman murmur, "Ehh, no. I'd never let him touch me." Seconds later, a man responds, "Well, scoot closer to me then." And just like that, the woman shifts her chair away from me. I'm still trying to act unfazed, looking at the TV playing the Cubs game, playing on my phone, interacting only with the bartender. Then again, from my left, more Trump talk. Someone on the screen is wearing a red MAGA hat. The woman says, "I wonder how they feel about him wearing that hat there." A man replies, "He shouldn't give a fuck what anybody says." She whispers, "We probably shouldn't say this stuff too loud around here. Someone might get offended." He answers, "That's his problem." At this point, I can't even concentrate on the menu. All I can think about is how I've been showing up here, caring for this same community, doing my best in their only ER, and this is how they really think of people who look like me. I'm nearly done with my beer when the couple beside me asks for their check. They stand to leave, say goodbye to the group beside them, and that's when I hear it: "Don't forget your niggers." My heart stopped. Blood rushed to my face. Time froze. Do I say something? Throw my beer? Walk out? Fight? It felt like an eternity, but it was less than a second. My head doesn't turnn towards them. I just keep looking up at the TV. Someone murmured what sounded like a correction and then louder: "I said his Nickers!" And they all laughed like it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard. I sat there, stunned, feeling every emotion at once rage, humiliation, fear, heartbreak. I knew I had to leave. The bartender came back, asked if I was ready to order food. I told her I'd just take the check. I paid. Got up. Walked toward the door. TVs were blasting. Music playing. Noise everywhere. And just as I pushed the door open, someone shouted clear as day: "NIGGER." I stutter stepped, tucked my head down, and I walked to my car in utter disbelief. I sobbed. Sobbed from frustration. From rage. From sadness. From exhaustion. From fear. How is this the world I live in? No one in that whole town knows me. But because of the color of my skin, they felt entitled to break me down. Humiliate me. Push me. Provoke me. Try to turn me into a headline. And you know what? Not a single person in that bar stood up. Said a word. Spoke out. Not the waitress. Not another patron. No one said a thing. And the crazy part? I still had my scrubs on. Not that racists care what you do for a living. But it's just so ironic to me. One day, I might be the nurse keeping them or someone they love alive. And they couldn't care less about my life. So again I ask, Are we great yet?
