Love the decor, ambiance, and the way records are stacked with plenty of room to peruse without colliding with other LP seekers. Found two records for the right price and wish I had more time as they had record players and cassette players as well. Will need one in the future. Maybe next time. Make my way up from Miami. Great place for great music at a great price!

Owned by one of the kindest, most conscientious music fans and female store owners in Michigan. An encounter with Heather Frarey is like talking to an old freind from high school. She is personable and connects on every level. She along with her pal Bill, stocks this store with so much love and charm. But don't let it fool you. She's a rocker. A punk. An adult contemporary lover. That's the BEST kind of fan. The store grows by leaps and bounds yearly. And her VERY affordable USED selections are unmatched by other records stores. They are all in excellent condition. Nothing she wouldn't own for herself. I have bought and sold many records at the Record Lounge. Always at a fair price. Let me say that again: She BUYS used records at a great price. By the dozens or hundreds. That fact is, I could never spend ENOUGH time there on my visits. If you like them on FB you will see almost daily videos of new arrivals. They are very good at responding to their messages and will welcome you with great service. Even BETTER, she sells stereos. Not the random new stuff but has a great array of SOLID older units restored and cared for by a great friend of hers. It's more than you'd expect from an independent. But THAT is the reason why she succeeds. The store has more employees than I have met yet, but I plan for a reunion soon. So I will be in to scour the Monkees records, talk about ELO and come home with more than I went in for and THAT is the hallmark of a great business and record store.

This seems like a reasonable used vinyl store. I was with some friends while visiting Ann Arbor and…read moreafter a nearby lunch, one in our party wanted to find a specific singer's album that would include some of his hit songs. The singer died in 1964, so these seem to be rare albums to get as he was not a big name. He looked through some stacks and the rest of us looked also. I ran into several albums I used to have, but had moved on from them, when our turntable broke in the early 90s when CDs became the standard. We never bothered to replace the turntable. Now most of what I play is through digital sources, not in my house. The store was clean and well organized and the pricing variable. It was busy with staff available. But none of us found what our friend was looking for, so we then moved on to other options. I did look online later and found a source available by internet purchase but at a price I do not think our friend would pay. I think he will find it difficult to make this random purchase in person.

The couple running the place have been there for over 40 years. Some of the stock has probably been there for nearly as long. There's a veneer of neglect about the place in the best way possible. It's (dis)organized into piles and boxes on top of their older inventory, and they can direct you to the newer piles, or to older piles where you might find some stray cache of a particular genre. Or just start digging. Some of the inventory is pretty overpriced - especially the Beatles and Stones and other classics. But a lot isn't - at all. They have an eclectic selection of newer releases, reggae, psychedelica, local music, electronica, and who knows what else. Prices on this lesser known stuff are often more than fair. The atmosphere is laid back - it's like hanging out in your grandparents' basement. Some of the people who come in have been coming in a LONG time. An older fellow came in looking to haggle for a record and was told off for an insulting offer, responding with a "I've been coming to this store since the day it opened." This is a true neighborhood record store and something you just won't find anywhere else in this era of discogs and ebay pricing. Just go and support these people. They really appreciate it.
