Started off they sent me to coach, even though I had a sleeper car. My attendee took my lunch order, and a half an hour after it was exposed to be delivered, I pushed the Attendant call button, after another 15 minute wait, I walked to the dining car, where 2 employees were chatting;) how nice. I asked if there was a problem with my order of just plain old grilled cheese? Apparently it had been made and was ready on time, just waiting for my attendant to bring it to me..... hum, the bag had the time and my room # on it, so I picked it up and was told I should wait for him to bring it to me, which I ignored;) When I was getting off at my stop, inch trash had never been picked up. Mind you I paid $350 extra for the upgrade. So not worth it just FYI. They are severely lacking in customer service, seems to be a foreign language to its employees;) Food and ride were nice though;) read more

The Amtrak location here in Miami is like near Hialeah. It's an old building from the late 1970s. The Metrorail and Tri-Rail stations are 0.5 miles away, like a short 11 minute walk. However, you have to walk thru a residential and commercial neighborhood which floods during heavy rain. The neighborhood is safe. BTW the Amtrak station's parking lot floods during heavy rain storms, so make sure to park your car near the building. They are currently upgrading the outside of the front entrance including a sidewalk which leads outside the compound. The station is old but well maintained. They have some new lounge chairs with charging stations. The Amtrak staff was wonderful, professional and friendly. They have some well stocked vending machines but make sure to eat before you get there. read more

I would not recommend any female to use Amtrak. They discriminate women. conductors are very rude. they don't let women seat by themself and put some random men next to women while men occupied two seats in couch by themself. Thats not normal at all. I had a trip on 97 train from NY to Miami on 2 October. Our train was delayed for 6 hours !! Natalie conductor was very rude to many passangers whatever you asked her. There were some empty seats annd when I ansjed her to let me seat there she said firm no. I dont understand what is going on I paid money to be tread as a slave. Btw seats were empty till the end of our trip but she refused to let me seat there. After this bad experience I definetly refuse to use Amtrak again. read more

I grew up taking trains. I rode New York Central when I was a child. I'm a huge fan of Amtrak for the last 50 years. I recently had a 40 hour ride from Miami to NYC then to Rochester. I stay in the large sleeper. The ride, the room, the meals, and especially the service was beyond excellent. The Amtrak crew working the train were the most professional people from anywhere. They were an absolute pleasure to take this trip with. They were so accommodating, intelligent, knowledgeable, and phenomenal at what they do. In the Sleeper Car, Rodney and Preston Ross were outstanding. Harrison made the Dining Car experience truly wonderful. On the return trip, Martyn & Patrick were also incredible. These crews speak volumes for Amtrak. They make it the best possible decision for transportation method on any trip for any reason. The ride matched their quality of the employees. The accommodations were tops. Amtrak is to be commended for its professional staff. These were not travel days; they were vacation days. read more

Doors open at 10:40am to 7:00pm, once they open the door, you can buy tickets and check-in you luggage and then seat in the waiting area until the train arrives. The employees were very understanding that I was old and needed a ride to the train and helped me get on with the lift. They were very polite to me. I usually take the Amtrak train once a year to Orlando and always had a vet good experience while at the Miami Amtrak station. read more

This train does its job of taking people to the places they wish to go to in a fast-paced and less-bumpy route, but it does a terrible job in cleanliness, staff friendliness, food quality and quantity, and air conditioning temperatures. I had an unfortunate, and very tedious, experience last time with Amtrak personnel; it was on a MIA to LKL trip. I know the food is not good, so I made sure to take my own, I know the cleanliness isn't the best, so I made sure to take disinfecting wipes and some hand sanitizer spray to clean the food tray, seat, seat arms, and anything else I needed to clean, and I know the air conditioning is WAYYY too cold, so I made sure to take a good, comfy hoodie with me to avoid shivering; however, these prior plans were severely interrupted by what I call "rude and ignorant behavior," as done by one Amtrak worker. There was a tall male who mistreated an Autistic person and his elderly mother/caretaker. It is almost as if the worker was completely unaware of the person's condition, or simply did not care. The worker, at first, separated the person and his caretaker, with no care to his well-being and the fact that he needed her aid! They were not allowed to sit next to each other because of the distance between their tickets' numbers. This enraged many people and the worker was rude to the person because he would not sit down and fidgeted a lot, but clearly, he was ignorant of the fact that this was a person with special needs. This man treated the person with such coldness and rudeness, and I found it so infuriating that I was unable to defend him when the police came for him. It was unjust, and I hope that the Amtrak worker got what he deserved for mistreating an Autistic person. He is clearly immature, mindless, and ignorant of how to deal with these situations. A person who has no patience for the elderly, children, animals, disabled persons, or others, should NOT be working for a company where there is bound to be lots of different types of people and animals! Unfortunately, I do not know or remember the worker's name, but I wish my review is read and paid attention to so this never happens again! read more

So, as anyone who has had a conversation with me in the past 4 months can tell you, I am obsessed with train travel. Yes, before I even got on the freakin' Amtrak, I was in love. My puppy love deepened when I actually got on the 98 Northbound one early muggy Miami morning, headed to Orlando. Size check for bags? Tiny liquids travel bag? 40 oz in my purse?? No problem. Old dude with two fishing poles hanging out of his bag? No problem. Well, the fishing poles part is true, but sadly I didn't bring a 40. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Seriously tho, the most pleasant boarding experience I have had, well maybe ever? when traveling in this country. The seats are insanely roomy, recline almost all the way and even have a leg rest that pops up to support you legs. I was way too excited to sleep tho. There's even a lil' tray, with power outlets at each row. Which is great because I almost killed my battery taking 800 photos of the train yard and every train track along the way. You can get up and walk around change, change cars and even go hang out with some dudes playing cards and drinking beers in the cafe car. I'm telling you it was social hour in there! Everyone was chatting it up with strangers and telling tales of riding the rails, where they came form and where they were going. Sooo... drinking beers at 10am and chatting it up with strangers on a train?? These are my people! The ride home was equally as awesome. And after a weekend of day drinking and going out, I was actually able to take advantage of the reclining seats and slept like a baby. Every single employee was so friendly and loved to talk about Amtrak, from the guy at the ticket counter, to the stewards walking around, to the cafe workers. It's just such a laid back and enjoyable experience. I would recommend the Amtrak to anyone who isn't in a hurry, has a fairly short trip, and isn't afraid to talk to strangers. read more

Small and easy station to maneuver in and out of Miami. While Miami is a large city, it definitely lacks a "union station." This Amtrak location is nowhere near any of Miami's good attractions. In fact, it is far out-of-the-way from anything touristy. This location is actually in a bad neighborhood. However, it is small and maneuverable and parking is free. It is also very easy to get in and out of when traveling. read more

This is a great way to get to Tampa. With traffic, it always takes me 4 1/2 -5 hours if I drive there. The train takes 5 hours, but you don't have to deal with the hassle of driving :) The tickets are cheap, the attendants are always helpful and happy, the parking lot is convenient & my mom says the train ride is a pleasure (comfy seats!). So far, my experience has only been with the station (I usually just drop my mom off there), but I will definitely ride on the train the next time that I need to go to Tampa because my mom says it's great & momma knows best! read more

In the grand scheme of Amtrak stations (surely there is a grand scheme), Miami's station is on par with those of cities a fraction of its size. Even Toledo, Ohio, has funky (albeit uncomfortable) seating. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Amtrak but, perhaps because I've been in so many stations across the country, I was surprised by this one's lack of amenities like a first class lounge or vending. Still, it was clean and quiet with comfortable chairs and has Amtrak's wonderful, friendly staff available to answer your questions. If you are arriving and headed downtown, you should know that this station isn't centrally located as in other cities. You can catch a city bus to Miami Beach or downtown ($2 fare - the L bus stops right outside the station) or hop in a cab but walking would be miserable with all your bags. read more

I needed to ship some boxes cross country. There is not a lot of info regarding Amtrak Shipping so I didnt know what to expect. i went to the front counter and inquired about how it works. I was told to go around back. So I drove to the back and was received by another guy. He helped me carry my boxes to the scale where he weighted them and then walked me to the front to pay. I regret not catching the names of the two men working there (on a sunday) but they were so amazing and helpful and nice. Thank you both!! I havent personally seen the boxes I shipped but it took less than a week to ship and they have been picked up at their destination. Great service. Thanks guys!! read more

So wierd this station is so far outside of downtown Miami. It seems it would be cool if The and Line of the Miami New York route would be a showplace. But, maybe that will require a public private partnership in the future. Otherwise, it is clean and functional. read more

I will qualify this review with this Statement. I am a licenced Commercial Pilot. I HATE TO FLY COMMERCIAL anymore, but am picky about my enroute travel. That said I cannot say enough good things about Amtrak. On the Most recent trip to Boston, I decided to vist friends in Miami then go up to Boston. I usually depart from Jacksonville. From JAX i will go either coach or Cabin ( Roomete), but since I was leaving from Miami this time I DEFINETLY went Cabin. I arrived on Sun Morning bright and early for the Silver Meteor, was greeted promptly, and refered to by name there after by Staff. LOVED that. When we got close to bording, A REDCAP met me at my bech and escorted me to my Cabin and helped me settle in. STAFF was outstanding. The Proter on the Car I was assingned was a true profesional and welcomed me as if I was coming into his own home. Having not had Breakfast, I was curious if the Dining Car would be available to eat. Without hesitation, I was informed yes as we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale. Having a room met meals included. FANTASTIC Breakfast and The staff was attentive and helpful, as well as getting my reservations for Lunch and Dinner that day. Thanks to Tony and Lesa for wonderul service. The ride was great and just being ablr to relax and enjoy the trip, instead of being squeezed into a seat and if lucky thrown a bag of 3 peanuts, and maybe a 1/2 cup of water on a plane. The enroute becomes part of the Vacation. I must also add that if you go coach, bring a small blanket, and prepare for a good night's sleep. The coach travel is as good as having a cabin. You just have to pay for meals instead of them being included. You also get to use the Club Acela rooms if you travel Roomete, or Buisness Class. ALL ABOARD!!! and enjoy the ride read more

Took Amtrak Silver trains overnight from Winter Park, Florida to Newport News, Virginia. I'm a big fan of trains so I put up with a lot of things that bug other (mostly first time) train travelers. For instance, we paid $300 for a sleeping "room" which was not at all as described on the Amtrak web site. I expected a toilet down the hall in the same car but on these trains it is right in the room, leaving no floor space for two people to stand, the "room" is so tiny, more tiny than a small broom closet. It's really a joke. Amtrak has started to offer two trains, one with no dining car for a lower price. Two things about the dining car food: 1) it's not that good and 2) the extra cost covers the three "free" meals you get for being in a sleeper but since my train left in the afternoon and was late and arrived at the train change spot at 4:30 in the morning (ugh), I only got one meal and it bothered my stomach. Next time I will get the train without dining car and bring a sandwhich on board. On the plus side a good thing about Amtrak is all the staff are so much more friendly and helpful than airline staff. They will help you get onboard with your luggage. They will make sure it's taken care of during layovers and bring it to you at the end of the trip. Since there wasn't enough room in our sleeping room for the two of us to sit, we asked to have the beds made up right away and the porter was happy to do so. Every car has it's own porter so one is never far away and they are all great. I was afraid of what the layover would be like (5 hours in the wee hours of the dark morning) at the Staples Mill station in Richmond. It looks a bit scary in web pictures. Turns out it was just fine. The staff is there 24 hours and takes care of luggage while you walk a short distance across a parking lot to McDonalds where you can be warm, have breakfast, and use their wifii to while away the time. The Amtrak app on your cell phone or tablet will let you know whether the train is on time or not. One final tip, before you settle in to your sleeper for the night. Make sure there is toilet paper in the holder and make sure you know what room your porter will be sleeping in. Our call button didn't work on the return trip and we had no toilet paper so I had to get dressed and hunt down a porter who was awake to come wake up our porter. Like I said at the beginning, I love trains so I will put up with some inconveniences. It's way better than flying. read more

I love the choo choo! I recently took a trip to/from Miami-Orlando for Thanksgiving break and it took wayyyyy longer than if I had just driven. I didn't realise until I was on the train that we actually go to Tampa first and then loop around back to Orlando. That's literally the only downside I can think of. I personally had a roomette since I like to take naps laying down (I would've just looked like an idiot in coach trying to do that) and didn't want to risk sitting next to someone who would overflow onto me. My steward and stewardess were great. They regularly came by my room to make sure I was all set to and to see if I needed anything and to let me know when lunch and dinner were ready in the dining car and were sure to keep us all updated as we were arriving at our individual destinations. TIP: If you have a room or roomette, all meals, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are included and you also have complimentary access to ClubAcela should you be starting/terminating your trip at a station that has one. Overall, if you have the extra free time, take the train. It's more for the experience than quick point-to-point transport. read more

Took the Tampa-Miami run a week ago. Don't whine if the train does not run on time and you will be fine. The 1245 left about 130, and did make up a few minutes rolling along. This being Thanksgiving week the train was sold out. Arrived at Miami station and did not take long for luggage to come up. The luggage waiting area is very narrow so people overflow into the hallway, then wait for people to get out so they can get in, not planned well. You must show ticket to attendant when getting your luggage. Clean restroom and comfy seats in waiting hall. Large brochures rack and a couple of vending machines, no other food choices. Miami-Dade Transit buses going to the airport or to Miami Beach stop right outside, just beyond the taxi stand. The Tri-Rail train going to Broward and Palm Beach counties, plus the elevated Metrorail heading south to downtown or north to Hialeah are both across from each other about three blocks away from Amtrak, so this is a comprehensive transit center. read more

Came across this Yelp page for this station, and figured I'd drop a review. I remember rushing here a little over a year ago to the 11:50 AM departure Silver Star train to NYC because my Uber got the train station wrong. Five minutes or so before departure, I remember rushing out of the car and through the station where an Amtrak employee was waiting with a little luggage truck or something and drove me all the way down the platform to the sleeper car. Driving me down to my car rather than making me run down there was really a nice extra touch, and I had a few minutes to settle into my sleeper room before we departed. read more

If you have time to kill and have a small budget, this low cost alternative to flying or driving is the way to go. Just keep in mind that usual 3 hour trip to Orlando at 85 mph on the turnpike will now take you about 5 hours. This is due to all the stop and go that you will be doing stopping at different stations along the way. Economical, safe and relaxing. Pull up a book on your Ipad or catch a couple of flicks on your Netflix application. Sit back and relax. read more

I live in Orlando and needed to meet family in Miami. I didn't want to drive, because hotel parking in Miami is outrageously overpriced. And flying between the two cities was going to cost me just as much as it would've cost to drive, without the benefits of having a car with me. So I decided to take the train (Amtrak), which cost me under $100 round trip, including taxes. Having taken the Amtrak Auto Train, a 19-hr trip, from Sanford, FL - Lorton, VA, this little over 3hr trip was a piece of cake. The train was clean and spacious. The conductors were very friendly, the only complaint, if you want to call is that ...is the lighting at the Train Station wasn't as adequate I felt for my 9pm arrival time. I wish the station and just outside the station were just a little more illuminated, just to give the single traveler just a little more sense of security. But of course, during daytime arrival/ departures its a non issue issue. Other than that one complaint, I look forward to returning to Miami as often as possible..I will just schedule my arrival and departure times accordingly. read more

The worst experience with Amtrak as a whole I took this train from Tampa to Fort Lauderdale and it wasn't two bad the first two times.... The most recent time I must say was the worst experience Amtrak was 10 hours late had Tampa customers take busses to a very uncomfortable location to make up for their lost time ! On top of all this they lost my luggage they left it on the train and took it to Miami and was suppose to send it back to Fort Lauderdale so I could retrieve it in the morning! And it was no where to be found and in this particular bag I have some hefty expensive equipment ! And now it's no where to be found. They told me they couldn't do anything for me that I have to wait until it's found... I will never travel by train from these two destinations again or any destination it was cheaper to fly and they don't lose my belongings !!!! read more

I recently traveled on Amtrak from NY Penn Station to Washington, DC. When my husband and I were half way home in the car I realized I had left my tripod on the train. We rushed to Alexandria, the next stop, to see if we could get there in time to get my tripod but we were too late. The station said they would send word out to the other stops and try and find it. I called Amtrak customer support and gave a full description and they assured me they would be on the look out for it. Well, a day and a half later I got a call from Agent Orlando Anderson in Miami informing me that he had my tripod. I was thrilled and he was very happy to be able to help me. He said he would box it up and put it on the next train back to Alexandria, VA. I retrieved my tripod which was carefully boxed and found a hand written note from Orlando, the agent just stating that this was my item I had left on the train, he included his name, and said "Have a nice day". Small but priceless in my eyes. It's nice to know people still care and will go above and beyond to help a person out. read more
