Their baked goods are out of this world, the coffee is great, the music is good, and the staff are friendly.

Our guide was pleased that we tried something 'different' because she said most people just go with something 'safe'.

Looking from the window outside, I spotted familiar savory pastries. I suspected correctly that they would be served room temperature direct from the display case. (They don't offer warming serves of prepared pastries.) At the counter, the cashier spoke perfect English. I asked her about favorites of savory pastries. We bought pastries of beef, chicken, 2x shrimps (her favorite), and 2x cod fish (traditional Portuguese recipe). For the why-not of it, we also got a full-size pastel de nata and a mini size. These are packed in takeaway package trays and paper wrapped. To avoid the crowds at the outside tables, we walked to a plaza around the corner and enjoyed them while people watching and looking at the octagonal 4 lions fountain called Fonte dos Leões. Perhaps because we are familiar with these types of pastries, we find the flavors subtly enjoyable. They don't have big chunks of beef or chicken or shrimps inside (American style). They contain finely chopped and well-seasoned fillings inside a potato pastry shell or a flaky pastry shell (for the beef). The potato pastry shell is less common in the US (except maybe Porto in Los Angeles area). In any case, we enjoyed our food overall and thought the prices are reasonable. These would be 5 stars if they warmed them up.

Located near the Lion's Fountain and one street over from the University of Porto, this place must do some good business with all the foot traffic in the area. Since we weren't 'hungry' and just wanted to try sometime we decided on a Pastel de Nata (an egg custard pastry) and a Castanhas de Ovos (another sweet egg yolk and flour treat). Both were very good, but a little less sweet than what we had in Lisbon. I preferred the ones in Lisbon...Wifey loved these.

The savory pastry remined me how lot of Asian pastries and bakery would make it. I guess that is how European culture influenced the east. I love how this cafe has many choices of savory and sweet bakery. The lanche misto has a good combination of ham and salami and cheese. Giving a good moisture and texture along with the oiliness and flavor which made it so tasty. The cafe would warm it up for us and bring to our table. The overall service here is simple and you have to find your seat along with a patio outside near a beautiful church. We also tried the cured ham toast which also was very tasty too, with a generous amount of cured ham added to it, yielding a flavorful bite with simplicity. What I found needing would be the coffee beverage, which clearly not their expertise. To sum up, a simple breakfast here with simple food and a good value.

Lots of locals here, and a generally decent vibe. I didn't get to try much of the pastries but the ones I did were great. Overall, I think this is a classic local Portuguese spot, and if you want a lot of classic local flavor, this is it. Compared to other cafeterias/diners, these folks have a fairly large space, so there should always be room. Bathrooms: Didn't try them, but I'm sure they have them.

Very budget-friendly prices and GREAT customer service. This spot is great for breakfast & lunch (coffee, cappuccino, Monsters for the energy drinkers), & so many delicious pastry options, including very flaky & delicious pastel de natas. They even have a few alcoholic options that will definitely have you feeling a little bit prettier;)) - sangria w/ fresh fruit for 3.95€, beer 3.50€, or port wine by the glass 3.50€. They have plenty of indoor seating & also do take away. My husband and I did visit this awesome spot every day while in Porto ..this was my husband's go-to take away expresso spot. Till next time Padeirinha Doce..I really enjoyed our Sangria time!
