I showed them the site, the desired jewelry item, and there staff was able to match it. No, the price was not the same. There was a 23% increase after taxes and all. I'm ok with this. I have a local business, who sized her hand, made the adjustments to the item, and I have a warranty, and a place to have the jewelry item maintained. Top notch customer service also. We were so impressed with Michael & Sons that we will never go to any other jeweler in town! I got my wedding band from this jeweler back in 2020. My engagement ring is custom made and very unique, so I decided to just get a cute band that I liked to wear on a separate finger since it would be hard to find a band to match my ring. My husband and I just celebrated our five year wedding anniversary and I told him I'd like a custom band that goes with my engagement ring so I can wear them as a set. I had no idea what my husband had in store for me, it turned out better than I ever could have imagined! Instead of just a band, he had the most beautiful ring guard made. He used some family heirloom diamonds in combination with new diamonds. Michael & Sons made a custom ring mold and filled it with white gold, then added all the diamonds. They made sure it perfectly lined up with my engagement ring and even added our wedding date on the inside of the rings. They did a phenomenal job--it looks like the same jeweler who made the engagement ring made the ring guard even though they are actually from jewelers in different parts of the country! The ring came with an excellent warranty policy that has a lot of great features for maintaining the high quality of this jewelry. We ended up getting an appraisal done here too and I've already brought in other jewelry for them to fix. David is the owner and my husband had nothing but wonderful things to say about him and his associates! Everyone was very professional and kind. My husband loved that he was able to work together with David to create something beautiful that we loved. There are cameras everywhere and we love that they do all their work and appraisals in-house without sending your jewelry out anywhere. Everything was so fast too. From my husband approaching them with his idea to when we had the ring guard in hand was about a week and a half! And the appraisal only took a few days. It was difficult for me to decide whether or not to write this review. We have been coming to Michael's and Sons since their previous location. We purchased my engagement ring and wedding bands from them. Recently I had to repair a ring and I didn't think twice about going to them. They took my ring and said they would get a quote before getting it repaired. A month passed and I hadn't hear back from them. I had to call three times to ask for an update; the first time the shop repairing my ring in NY was closed and they couldn't get an update. The second time the jeweler repairing my ring was stuck in a snow storm and couldn't make it into the shop. The third time a combination of both. Finally I heard back and they said my ring was ready for pick up, they would only charge me for the price of the repair. What was frustrating was that three different people including the owner who answered my call said that they would call me back with an update. I was suppose to approve the cost of the repair before moving forward and I didn't hear back until my ring was ready for pick up. To top things off they called my husband the night after picking up the ring to tell him the payment hadn't gone through, on our side we had received confirmation of the payment having gone though. The lack of communication was frustrating, if you say you are going to call someone with an update the next day you should follow through. read more

They broke my watch and then took a full hour to "make it right" by attempting to repair it. Only to then tell me it couldn't be repaired and gave it back to me looking horribly ugly and no longer fitting on my wrist. I normally get my jewelry serviced in Carson city and wanted to try a place closer to Reno. I will never be going back there. They also still charged me even though they destroyed my watch (which is a family heirloom passed down by my grandfather to me before he died) This is completely unacceptable and disgusting. read more

This is my 2nd review for this place! Needless to say I'm quite disappointed in my lousy service today when I went back with a few problems. The nicest thing about my visit today was the lovely Helen who listened to my issues sweetly and was very patient and kind. I had my favorite link bracelet repaired with the exact clasp I had on it for 10 years. Well the the replacement looked exactly the same but it definitely was so not! This bracket fell off like 6~7 times. Thankfully I didn't loose it because it's one of my go~to pieces that I used to wear regularly. This kept happening all through the holidays on airplanes, in restaurants when traveling. It was beyond annoying... The first chance I had to get back was today and I was not happy by the treatment I received! The original cost of the new clasp was $75.00 and that was totally fine if it worked. So we discussed ways to try to fix the problem. One was a safety clasp and I didn't like that. The other was to laser soder it to the inside. They wanted to charge me a additional $35.00 for that. This kinds of ticked me off! The jeweler did a lousy job on the clasp and I have to pay for the fix? In full? Not right and I so done with this ridiculous place Frankly I want about to purchase my new diamond here and pay a 200% mark~up! Heck to the No! Done and Done! She absolutely loves the ring and it looks stunning on her finger. From the moment we walked into the store we felt welcomed and valued. The staff was very joyful, informative and polite. They were not pushy at all. Katie and Morgan were very wonderful. We have been back several times since and they remember our names and our excited to see us. I suspect they are selling un documented jewelry. Just a guess on my part, but I've heard from a number of people that the owner is under investigation for possessing suspect merch. My wife dropped of her channel-set diamond wedding ring to have it resized and cleaned. Six hundred dollars later and not to get into details, we are probably looking at doubling that number with another jeweler to have them undo what MSJ did and to do what they were paid to do. My wife took it back two times, the second time she talked to the Owner. In his defense, he recognized the poor workmanship and made a comment suggesting their QC should never have let this happen and offered to make it right. Needless to say, we passed and will be sending the ring out of state to undo their efforts and return the ring to it's former brilliance. read more

We came today to look for a solitaire diamond necklace. Luck for us, today was their Black Friday Sale which meant 60% off. When we came in the store, we were promptly greeted by the security guard and we grabbed a complimentary soda while we browsed. Once I found what I was looking for, we found a sales associate and she came to assist. She wrote up the order and took the item to the front register. She said they'd call our name when they were ready to ring us up and it would be a 15 minute wait. This was to be expected as the store was really busy. Not three minutes later the Owner asked if we had been helped and we said we were waiting to check out. He found our item and promptly rang us up. He even asked if we wanted to have this gift wrapped which we passed on. All in all this was a great experience, and I left with a belated birthday gift that I adore. Wonderful experience! This jeweler exceeded expectations with a recent ring repair. I have a very pretty Native American turquoise ring that sadly lost a stone. I could not find the stone. Michael and Sons replaced the stone, matched the color perfectly, and I cannot even tell which stone was replaced. It's perfect! Thank you for the superb repair. I recently went in to have some links removed from my watch and while browsing, waiting for my watch to be done, I ended up buying a ring and a bracelet. Lynette was the woman who helped me. She was so sweet and helpful. Today, I received a card from the business and Lynette had personally written a message thanking me for my business and asked me to call her and give her an update on my Yorkie who had surgery that day. Error One I designed the ring with the help of Katie who was very nice. I received a call from Katie telling me that they cracked my stone when setting. Katie said they would source another stone. I assumed the stone would be the same quality. It was not-- and I did not receive my original stone back to compare the color. Second Error I asked to have just the bezel buffed out on my Cartier Panthere watch. They made a mistake and polished the entire watch to a highly polished sheen. This devalued the watch. Katie offered to have the watch brought back to factory finish. I agreed. She sent the watch to a Cartier 'expert' in Florida. Again, the watch was finished incorrectly. Katie did offer to send the watch back, however, after the second mistake on the watch, I had lost all confidence in Michael & Sons. This jeweler is supposed to have a good reputation however, that was not my experience. I have taken my business to Midtown Diamonds where the watch was fixed correctly but I still have to live with a custom ring that has a lesser quality center stone. I'll probably pawn the ring because the whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I did not feel good about leaving this review but for the high prices they charge, I would expect better service. read more

My husband and I visited their store the Saturday before Memorial Day and spoke with the owner, David, about our purchases and also spoke about the upcoming Memorial Day. David chose to close his family-owned business in honor of the day. To me this was a very big deal that a small business owner would choose to close on a holiday that would normally have brought a more-than-usual amount of foot traffic to a store since more people were off work.
